Google is going all-in on AI across everything from hardware like Pixel phones to their ubiquitous search bar with their Gemini tool.
Gemini Extensions (formerly Bard Extensions) are a key part of this effort.
It seems the list of Gemini Extensions will soon grow, with the latest potential addition being YouTube Music.
Gemini is Google’s AI-powered chatbot, aimed at competing with ChatGPT.
Google could easily integrate Gemini into their services, which they are well on their way to doing across their various properties.
Android Authority contributor AssembleDebug managed to activate a new YouTube Music Extension for Gemini in the latest Google app version.
Although not officially announced yet, there’s a chance Google could remove this unannounced feature.
The YouTube Music Extension in Gemini would allow users to play, search, and discover their favorite songs, artists, playlists, and more.
Users could search for songs, play radios based on moods, and discover new music.
The YouTube Music Extension will be located under the “Extensions” page in the Gemini app, even if it isn’t yet listed.
With it enabled, Gemini search results will include YouTube Music results.
Tapping these will launch the YouTube Music app, or a web player if the app isn’t installed.
So when using Gemini to find music based on your tastes, you can simply ask it to find you songs.
If it has access to your listening patterns perhaps it can suggest related songs for you.
This YouTube Music Extension differs from the “Music Provider” feature, which lets you set a default music player app.
Reports indicate the Extension looks pretty much finished, though Google hasn’t officially announced it or other Gemini updates yet.
Perhaps more details will come at Google’s I/O event on May 10th.
The Gemini YouTube Music Extension is a new feature for Google’s AI-powered Gemini tool that allows users to interact with YouTube Music for playing songs, discovering new playlists, and searching for music based on their mood.
Once enabled, the YouTube Music Extension allows Gemini to provide search results from YouTube Music, which users can access to play music either through the app or a web player.
While the extension has been activated in a test environment, Google has not yet officially released the YouTube Music Extension for Gemini, and it may be announced at the upcoming Google I/O event.
The extension integrates music search and playback capabilities directly into Gemini, letting users find music based on specific queries and moods without leaving the Gemini interface.
