Samsung has acknowledged a frustrating issue affecting the touchscreen performance of its latest Galaxy S23 smartphones following a recent software update.
Fortunately, the tech giant has also provided a temporary fix for affected users.
The problem arose after the rollout of the One UI 6.1 update, which introduced various AI-powered features to older Galaxy devices.
Multiple owners of the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra reported their smartphone screens becoming unresponsive or unreliable when trying to register touch inputs.
On Wednesday, April 3rd, Samsung officially recognized the touchscreen bug and identified the culprit – compatibility issues with certain Google app features.
According to user reports on Reddit and Samsung’s support forums, the Google Discover feed was causing touchscreen performance hiccups on the impacted Galaxy S23 series handsets.
To address the problem temporarily, Samsung has advised affected users to take the following steps:
Samsung mentioned that Google is actively working on a permanent fix to resolve the compatibility issue with its apps and the One UI 6.1 update.
The One UI 6.1 rollout, which commenced last week, brought AI-centric features like Live Translate, Chat Assist, Note Assist, and Circle to Search to various Galaxy devices, including last year’s Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9.
However, alongside the touchscreen woes, some users have also reported charging issues and fingerprint scanner problems on their Galaxy S23 models after installing the update.
While the temporary workaround should alleviate the touchscreen troubles for now, Galaxy S23 owners will undoubtedly welcome a long-term solution from Samsung and Google to ensure a smooth user experience with the latest software.
Users have reported unresponsiveness and reliability issues with the Galaxy S23 series’ touchscreen functionality. This problem surfaced following the One UI 6.1 software update, affecting the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra models.
Samsung has acknowledged the issue, attributing it to compatibility problems with certain Google app features. The company has provided a temporary fix that involves updating the Google app, deleting its data, and restarting the device.
Affected users should first update the Google app to the latest version available on the Google Play Store. Then, they need to delete the app’s data via Settings > Apps > Google > Storage > Delete Data, followed by a device restart.
Yes, Samsung mentioned that Google is actively developing a permanent fix to address the compatibility issue between its apps and the One UI 6.1 update. This solution aims to ensure smooth touchscreen performance on the Galaxy S23 series.
