OpenAI has rolled out a major update for ChatGPT on WhatsApp allowing users to interact with the AI not just through text but also using images and voice notes. This makes the chatbot much more versatile and user-friendly. Here’s what we know about the feature so far.

According to an Android Authority report, you can now send images, memes, or photos to ChatGPT, and it will analyse them and provide text-based insights. Moreover, you can also send voice notes to WhatsApp ChatGPT and it will transcribe and respond accordingly.

This feature is particularly useful for users who prefer speaking over typing or those with limited data plans as it streamlines communication.

ChatGPT on WhatsApp previously could only handle text-based queries. With this update, the chatbot can now recognise objects, answer visual questions and provide detailed image analysis.

How to Use These New Features?

To try out the new features, follow the below-mentioned steps –

  • Save ChatGPT’s official WhatsApp number – 1-800-CHATGPT.
  • Restart WhatsApp and look for ChatGPT in your contacts.
  • Send a text, image or voice note and the AI will process it and respond.

Moreover, OpenAI has hinted at upcoming features including the ability to sign into your ChatGPT account directly from WhatsApp. This could enable conversation syncing between WhatsApp and ChatGPT’s web or mobile app making it easier to pick up chats across different devices.

However, users should be cautious when sharing personal or sensitive images as all data is processed on OpenAI’s servers and these updates make ChatGPT more powerful and accessible.

Meanwhile, OpenAI has also introduced a new ‘Deep Research’ mode in ChatGPT designed for multi-step web research on complex topics. This is OpenAI’s second AI agent following the launch of Operator AI, which assists with browser-related tasks.
