It goes without saying that when it comes to global leadership in providing the latest in Wi-Fi technology MediaTek wins by a wide margin as the company recently announced that it has successfully completed interoperability testing for Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) on MediaTek Filogic Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6E chips.

MediaTek has partnered with Federated Wireless, which is the leading innovator of private wireless and shared spectrum services, for this task that has achieved fruition and it helps that Federal Wireless has been conditionally approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for operating an AFC system.

Highlights

  • MediaTek and Federal Wireless have successfully completed the Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) interoperability testing on MediaTek Filogic Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6E chips.
  • The positive tests include verifying proper AFC calculation and spectrum availability response for several locations, while the negative tests include verifying proper AFC system error handling.
  • MediaTek has high hopes that the new chipsets will prove to be a breakthrough on several devices during launch.

MediaTek Concludes AFC Testing Process on Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6E Chipset

It goes without saying that when it comes to global leadership in providing the latest in Wi-Fi technology MediaTek wins by a wide margin and the company even announced recently  that it has successfully completed interoperability testing for Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) on MediaTek Filogic Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6E chips, in partnership with Federated Wireless, which is the leading innovator of private wireless and shared spectrum services.

Federated Wireless is conditionally approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to operate an AFC system, which manages access to spectrum by standard-power indoor and outdoor unlicensed devices in the 6 GHz band.

The standard power operations for indoor and outdoor unlicensed devices are enabled by an AFC system, such as 5G CPEs, fiber gateways, and ethernet gateways, which transmit over 850 MHz of spectrum in the 6 GHz frequency band.

Once this task is completed, it provides Wi-Fi products with improved range, faster connectivity speeds and improved capacity that comes of great use due to the continuous proliferation of Wi-Fi 7 technology that will flourish even more due to this.

Our leadership in Wi-Fi technology would not be complete without ensuring our customers have easy access to AFC solutions,” said Alan Hsu, corporate vice president of Connectivity at MediaTek. “We are very happy to partner with Federated Wireless and to have finished an extensive series of integration testing. Our Filogic Wi-Fi 7 and 6E chips, including the CES 2023 Innovation Award-winning Filogic 880, will soon support Standard Power operation in the 6GHz spectrum for companies producing Wi-Fi devices.”

MediaTek and Federated Wireless both conducted a comprehensive set of positive and negative tests that were taken from the Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA) AFC System certification specification successfully completed AFC Device-to-AFC System interoperability testing.

In addition, all of the conducted tests employed security measures that went above and beyond those specified by the WFA’s Standard Device Interface (WFA SDI) requirement documentation, which has ensured the highest degree of privacy and data security across all AFC System communications.

“We are proud to partner with MediaTek to perform these critical interoperability tests to ensure that the commercial industry is ready for standard power device operations to begin,” said Kurt Schaubach, chief technology officer at Federated Wireless. “Federated Wireless prides itself on being a premier collaborator with our partners and customers interested in spectrum sharing solutions.”

MediaTek Introduces Global System of Wi-Fi 7, Consumer-Ready Products

MediaTek is the company that is considered one of the first adopters of Wi-Fi 7 technology, which’ll soon be demonstrating a full ecosystem of production-ready devices that include the next generation of wireless connectivity, which will happen at the Consumers Electronics Show (CES) 2023.

CES 2023 MediaTek

It is due to MediaTek hugely investment in Wi-Fi 7 technology that these products have been completed where the company’s main focus is reliable and always-on connected experiences on a variety of devices in several product categories, including residential gateways, mesh routers, televisions, streaming devices, smartphones, tablets, laptops, and more.

Wi-Fi 7 is the most powerful Wi-Fi standard in current times that utilizes record-breaking 320MHz channel bandwidth and 4096-QAM modulation to improve user experience overall, while Multi-Link Operation (MLO) also enables the Wi-Fi connections so as to aggregate channel speeds and alleviate link interruption in a congested environment for time-consuming applications.

Last year, we gave the world’s first Wi-Fi 7 technology demonstration, and we are honored to now show the significant progress we have made in building a more complete ecosystem of products,” said Alan Hsu, corporate vice president and general manager of the Intelligent Connectivity Business unit at MediaTek. “This lineup of devices, many of which are powered by the CES 2023 Innovation Award-winning Filogic 880 flagship chipset, illustrates our commitment to providing the best wireless connectivity.”

MediaTek’s Wi-Fi 7 has an excellent solution where you get massive reduction in main power consumption by 50% via the 6nm process, a 25x reduction in CPU utilization, and 100x lower MLO switch latency when compared to competing options.
