In a strategic move to bolster its telecom services, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is enhancing customer connectivity by offering a no-cost upgrade from 2G and 3G to 4G SIM cards.
Confirmed by BSNL Andhra Pradesh through a communication on the social platform X, the initiative paves the way for the telecom giant’s ambitious 4G services expansion set to span across its Indian circles by mid-2024.
Subscribers of BSNL’s legacy networks are in for a treat with the company’s latest offering, which not only includes a free upgrade to a 4G SIM but also comes bundled with an additional 4GB of data.
This data boon, valid for three months, has been highlighted as a gesture of goodwill to encourage users to transition to the faster network.
Insights into this development were initially picked up by Telecom Talk, which noted the announcement on X.
For those keen on harnessing the power of 4G, BSNL has streamlined the process.
Customers are encouraged to visit their closest BSNL customer service center or connect with a franchise, retailer, or Direct Selling Agent (DSA) to make the switch.
While the ongoing deployment of 4G is a current focus, BSNL is not resting on its laurels. The network provider has its eyes set on the future with the anticipated rollout of its 5G network following the complete establishment of 4G services by June 2024.
Despite initial projections by Union IT and Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for a 2023 upgrade to 5G, BSNL’s CMD P.K. Purwar had clarified at the seventh Mobile India Congress that the 5G transition is expected post the 4G rollout completion next year.
Adding to this forward momentum is the state-run Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT), which has reportedly developed a homegrown 5G network ready to be deployed within the forthcoming six to eight months.
This new technology was showcased in a live demonstration to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the IMC 2023.
BSNL is also infusing the festive spirit into its offerings.
A special promotional deal surrounding the Diwali festivities has been announced, where users will benefit from an extra 3GB of data across various recharge plans.
This additional data is over and above what subscribers already receive with plans valued at Rs 251, Rs 299, and Rs 398.
The complimentary data can be availed through recharges made via BSNL’s Self-care app or its website.
BSNL customers with 2G or 3G connections can visit any BSNL customer service center, franchise, retailer, or Direct Selling Agent to get their free 4G SIM card. The upgrade process is designed to be smooth and straightforward to ensure all users can enjoy faster connectivity with ease.
Along with improved network speeds and connectivity, BSNL is offering an additional 4GB of data valid for three months as part of the upgrade. This is intended to provide users with a sample of the enhanced experience that 4G offers, at no extra cost.
After the full deployment of 4G services by June 2024, BSNL is expected to begin its 5G services rollout. This transition to the next-generation network is set to offer even faster speeds and more reliable service to BSNL subscribers.
In the spirit of the festive season, BSNL is giving away an additional 3GB of data on top of the usual data benefits with its Rs 251, Rs 299, and Rs 398 recharge plans. This offer is available to customers who recharge through the BSNL Self-care app or website.
