YouTube Music’s iOS app has finally introduced a highly anticipated feature that has been available on Android for quite some time – the ability to swipe left or right on the album artwork to navigate to the next or previous song.
This simple yet intuitive gesture replaces the need to tap the respective controls at the bottom of the Now Playing page, providing a more seamless and user-friendly experience.
The swipe gesture offers a much larger touch target compared to the traditional on-screen buttons, making it easier to control playback without having to precisely tap on small icons.
This addition complements the existing swipe capability introduced with the permanent miniplayer last year, further enhancing the overall navigation experience on iOS devices.
The new swipe gesture for song navigation is currently rolling out to iOS users as part of version 7.04 of the YouTube Music app.
As the update becomes more widely available, iPhone and iPad users can expect to enjoy this convenient feature that has long been enjoyed by their Android counterparts.
While the swipe gesture is a welcome addition, YouTube Music users are still awaiting the release of the March-May Recap feature.
The December-February edition of this feature, which provides a summary of users’ listening habits, did not arrive until early April, leaving many hoping that the next iteration won’t face such a significant delay.
In a somewhat puzzling development, YouTube Music appears to have rolled back the Hum to Search song identification feature over the past few days.
For Android users who had access to this functionality last month, which allowed them to identify songs by humming or singing a melody, it is no longer operational.
