The foldable smartphone segment could soon see a new trend as several smartphone brands are reportedly exploring wider foldable designs. New leaks indicate that Vivo and Honor are also developing wide foldable smartphones for future releases. Here’s what we know so far.
According to a recent leak shared by tipster Smart Pikachu, Vivo is currently working on improvements for its next foldable smartphone that is expected to launch as the Vivo X Fold 6. The tipster claims that the upcoming device will bring noticeable upgrades in crease management.
The leak also states that users interested in large foldable smartphones should pay attention to the Vivo X Fold 6 as the company appears to be refining the overall folding display experience. The tipster also hinted that Vivo may gradually shift its foldable smartphone strategy toward wider “book-style” foldable designs in the future.
However, it remains unclear whether Vivo plans to launch such a wide foldable device this year.
In a separate leak, tipster Guan Tongxue GiM revealed that Honor has also been developing a wide foldable smartphone for a long time. While the tipster did not share detailed specifications, the post included an image that appears to showcase the possible design of the upcoming device.
Based on the leaked image, the Honor foldable smartphone could feature a triple rear camera setup along with a secondary display positioned on the back panel. The device also appears to adopt a noticeably wider form factor compared to traditional foldable phones currently available in the market.
When unfolded, the smartphone is expected to provide a tablet-like viewing experience in horizontal orientation potentially making it more suitable for multitasking and media consumption.
Earlier this year, Huawei introduced the Pura X Max with a wide foldable form factor.
Rumours also suggest that Samsung may unveil a similar device alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 later this July. Apple is also reportedly preparing its first foldable iPhone, which may launch as the iPhone Ultra in September this year.
