The Tecno Spark 20 is the company’s newest addition to the smartphone market and is said to epitomise a blend of innovation, style, and accessibility.
Positioned as an all-rounder in Tecno’s Spark series, the Spark 20, from the specs on paper, stands out with its segment-leading features like massive storage capacity and a high-resolution camera setup, all wrapped in a stylish design.
Priced starting at Rs 10,499 (with some caveats), the handset is said to promise an uncompromised budget user experience.
In this Tecno Spark 20 review let’s try and decipher how well the device actually holds up to a proper scrutiny.
| Pros | Cons |
| Massive storage | Occasional camera lag |
| Budget-friendly | Low Light Performance Could be Better |
| Impressive battery | |
| Rs 4897 of OTT for free |
The Tecno Spark 20 has a standard budget design with a plastic build with a textured back panel which is both modern and trendy.
It has glossy rails that catch a lot of smudges and fingerprints.
The camera island is reminiscent of previous Tecno phones but I do like the appeal this setup brings.
I also like the phone’s lightweight yet rigid build that pushes the idea of being structurally sound while also being portable.
The device also sports a 6.56-inch HD+ Dot-in Display, boasting a 90Hz refresh rate, IP53 resistance, and a maximum brightness of 480 nits.
This, coupled with Panda Screen Protection, technically ensures an extended amount of durability along with a pleasant visual experience.
I should also mention that the device will also come with OTT play premium subscription worth Rs 4897.
I did watch a few movies and videos on the phone and for a budget phone, there really is no downside to the viewing experience.
The Tecno Spark 20’s photography capabilities are anchored by a 50MP primary shooter and a secondary depth sensor, alongside a 32MP front camera for selfies, marking an upgrade from its predecessor.
This setup, with features like Ring-LED flash, HDR, and panorama, enables 1080p video capture at 30fps.
Daylight captures showcase decent dynamic range and exposure, though the camera sometimes struggles with slow focusing and shutter responsiveness.
In contrast, low-light conditions reveal the camera’s limitations, where utilizing the flash can significantly improve photo quality.
The 32MP selfie camera, while not groundbreaking, offers satisfactory performance for video calls and selfies under good lighting, providing value that aligns with its pricing tier. Videos can be shot on the device at 1080p @ 30fps which is good enough.
Under the hood, the Tecno Spark 20 is powered by a Helio G85 Octa-Core processor, complemented by 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and an additional 8GB Mem Fusion RAM, totaling 16GB.
This setup is paired with a whopping 256GB internal storage, expandable up to 1TB.
The internal storage is the highest in the segment and is a marquee feature of the handset.
The performance of the device is adequate again, nothing out of the ordinary but I can tell you that running very intensive games on the device is not a good idea although the device does hold the fort in terms of CPU Throttling.
The Tecno Spark 20 features a multi-card slot for dual 4G nano SIMs and a dedicated SD card, along with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for enhanced security.
The inclusion of dual stereo speakers powered by DTS enhances the audio experience, offering up to 400% more sound.
The device runs on HiOS 13.5 based on Android 13, ensuring a relatively smooth and responsive user experience.
There does seem to be a slight focus on the reduction of bloatware but you will find some essentials in the pre-installed apps such as the entire suite of Google’s productivity tools, which I appreciate.
The rest of the skin is pretty much what you can expect on any other Tecno phone.
Finally, the Spark 20 is equipped with a 5000mAh Li-Polymer battery, supported by an 18W Flash Charger capable of charging 50% in just 43 minutes.
In my time testing the phone, I got about 6-7 hours of screen-on time, which is what I have come to expect in most phones with the advertised battery capacity.
The Tecno Spark 20, priced at Rs 10,499, delivers a compelling package with its high-resolution camera, substantial storage, and smooth performance, all within a budget-friendly range.
Its design and display offer a comfortable user experience, while the camera setup manages decent daylight photography despite some limitations in low light.
Performance-wise, it’s equipped to handle everyday tasks with ease, thanks to the robust processor and ample storage and RAM. The battery life is impressive, ensuring prolonged usage.
Overall, the Tecno Spark 20 can be considered a value-packed option for those seeking a reliable and affordable smartphone.
Notable for its large 6000 mAh battery and MediaTek Dimensity 1300 chipset, this device offers impressive battery life and efficient performance.
It also boasts a 144 Hz refresh rate display and 5G connectivity, a rare find at this price point.
This phone stands out with its 6000 mAh battery and Exynos 1330 chipset.
It features a 6.6-inch display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection and a 90 Hz refresh rate but falls short in low light photography.
Known for being one of the most affordable 5G smartphones, the POCO M6 Pro offers good performance and battery life.
It has a smooth 90 Hz display, a premium glass rear panel, and is often available at a lower price than its competitors.
A great option for those not prioritizing 5G. It comes with a MediaTek Helio G88 processor, a 6.72-inch 120Hz display, and a 5000 mAh battery with 33W fast charging.
This device features a Snapdragon 685 processor, a 6.67-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED display, and a 50+8+2 MP rear camera setup, offering a good balance of features and performance.
