The company launched the WH-1000XM5 headphones last year, which are available for Rs 34,990. Now, a TWS earbuds version of the same is reportedly in the works.

The Sony WF-1000XM5 is likely to launch very soon.

The company has not confirmed any details about the launch of its new premium TWS earbuds.

However, a new leak has revealed some key details about the WF-1000XM5.

A new report by The Walkman Blog has revealed the design of the upcoming Sony TWS earbuds.

The WF-1000XM5 earbuds are long overdue for a refresh and the latest FCC listing suggests that the earbuds might launch very soon.

Sony is tipped to launch its latest pair of flagship true wireless earbuds globally, a follow-up to the company’s successful 1000X lineup.

The earbuds, which should be called the Sony WF-1000XM5, is expected to be its newest premium true wireless noise cancelling earbuds, and now, a set of live images of the device, along with its recently acquired United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), have been leaked online — showing what the upcoming premium earbuds may bring to the table.

Let’s take a look at the Sony WF-1000XM5 TWS earbuds design, specifications and other details.

Sony WF-1000XM5 FCC Listing Reveals Design

The new Sony WF-1000XM5 will launch as a successor to the WF-1000XM4 in various markets.

The TWS earbuds are expected to launch in India as well.

Ahead of the launch, an FCC listing spotted by The Walkman Blog revealed that the earbuds will have a compact design compared to their predecessor model.

The earbuds are also more rounded, unlike the WF-1000XM4, which came with a flat underside.

The earbuds have a glossy black paint job but according to the report, it could be due to the pre-production unit visiting the FCC website.

The charging case is also slightly more rounded in shape compared to the XM4’s case.
There is also a two-pin charging connector instead of a three-pin one in the predecessor model. The charging case text suggests that the earbuds could be charged faster.

The XM5’s case has a 5V = 230mA specification compared to the XM4’s 5V = 140mA specification.

The charging case also continues to offer support for wireless charging, as seen in the teardown images.

The WF-1000XM5 will continue to support Qi wireless charging.

The teardown images also reveal the internals of the earbuds but the battery capacity remains unknown at the moment.

The report does not reveal any details about the driver size of the earbuds or any other specs.

However, we can expect the WF-1000XM5 to offer support for features such as Active Noise Cancellation (ANC).

The earbuds are also likely to offer other premium features like Transparency mode, possible multi-device connection, etc.

At the moment, it is unknown when will Sony launch the new XM5 earbuds.

The company is expected to launch the earbuds first in the US and a few other markets, followed by India. We can expect the earbuds to be available in India for around Rs 25,000 at least. Sony might launch the earbuds in the coming weeks.

FAQ’s on Sony WF -1000XM5

1) Sony WF-1000XM5: what we may expect?

Ans) The Sony WF-1000XM5 is expected to be the true wireless version of the company’s already launched 1000XM5 generation of headsets, which presently features only the over-ear headphones, the WH-1000XM5.

The new earbuds may follow the typical launch schedule that Sony has, wherein the over-ear version is launched first, followed by the true wireless model.

In terms of the live images reported by The Walkman Blog, not much seems to be different from the WF-1000XM4. The new true wireless earbuds appear to feature a rounded design language, with rounder earbud bodies and a rounder wireless charging case as well – marking a slight departure from the bulky, squarish design on the WF-1000XM4’s charging case.

A stripped down image of the charging case and the earbuds also show that the charging case will retain the wireless charging feature. However, no details on expected specifications were revealed, so at present, it is not clear as to how the earbuds may differ in terms of audio quality and other features.

Nevertheless, the earbuds are likely to retain the premium audio drivers, app-linked equaliser, smart assistant support and active noise cancellation as well.

The Sony WF-1000XM5 is also launched first globally followed by an India launch, suggesting that even if the earbuds are launched within the coming weeks, an India launch of the earbuds may still be a few weeks away.
