It is not just your imagination, your iPhone is indeed getting slower. In fact, Apple has come under fire in recent years for intentionally slowing down older iPhones. It has been fined by France’s competition watchdog as well as several US states for slowing down old iPhones which led to a $113 million settlement.
Now, as per a new report, changing the region of your iPhone to France can make an old iPhone faster than before. This suggests that Apple doesn’t throttle iPhones’ in France as a response to the country’s competition watchdog’s investigation and the fine.
Earlier, the Cupertino-based tech giant revealed that it slows down old iPhones to preserve their battery life, prioritizing it over performance. Apple’s critics have argued that the decision to throttle old devices is also to push customers to purchase a newer model. However, the company maintains that it is done to prevent iPhones from rebooting under heavy load.
So, if you are experiencing slowdowns on your old and tired iPhone, one way to speed up your device is likely by changing the region to France.
Here’s how to change your iPhone’s region
Step 1: Open the Settings menu and tap on your name
Step 2: Tap the ‘Media & Purchases’ option
Step 3: Click on ‘View Account’ option there
Step 4: Now, you can change the country or region
Step 5: Change the location to France
After that, to finish the process, you can simply follow the on-screen instructions and reboot your iPhone once done. Also, it should be noted that once you change the location of your device, you will not be able to receive the latest updates that are pushed for your country specifically.
