Samsung is reportedly working on an innovative solution that could transform its foldable phone lineup by enabling S Pen functionality without adding extra bulk.
According to a report from The Elec, Samsung Display is collaborating with its partners to eliminate the need for a digitizer, which is the key part of stylus support in its foldable devices.
The digitisers usually contribute to a phone’s thickness as seen in the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which offers S Pen support but at the cost of a relatively chunky build.
In contrast, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition opted for a slimmer design by excluding S Pen compatibility.
However, Samsung’s new technology could combine the best of both worlds, delivering a thin foldable phone that also supports the S Pen.
While there’s no official timeline for mass production of this technology, future Samsung foldables may offer users the choice between slim, stylus-enabled designs and more traditional builds.
Meanwhile, rumours about Apple’s first foldable iPhone are gaining traction. According to display industry expert Ross Young, Apple may launch its first foldable iPhone in the second half of 2026.

Unlike the clamshell design of the Galaxy Z Flip, Apple’s foldable iPhone is expected to feature a book-style design, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. When asked about the potential design on X, Young responded simply with the word “Fold,” fueling speculation about Apple’s plans for its entry into the foldable market.
