Motorola’s First Wide Foldable Could Rival Galaxy Z Fold 8; Design and Key Features Leak

Motorola is preparing to enter a new segment of the foldable smartphone market with its first wide foldable soon. The brand already has experience with both clamshell and book-style foldable phones but the upcoming device will reportedly open into a wider, landscape-style form factor. Recently, leaked sketches provided an early glimpse at its design and now we have mockups alongside specifications to have an early idea of what Motorola has been working on.

Motorola’s Upcoming Wide Foldable Design

In separate exclusive reports from Android Headlines, sketches, physical mock-ups and detailed specifications of the device have now surfaced.

The phone is reportedly being developed internally under the name Razr Flex with Parker said to be its codename. However, neither name has been confirmed as the final retail name. Motorola is currently expected to launch the foldable around the middle of December.

The leaked physical mock-ups suggest that Motorola’s first wide foldable will have a relatively compact but chunky design. When opened, the main screen is expected to offer a wide, landscape-oriented layout. The phone is shown with rounded corners giving it a design seem closer to the iPhone Duo than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8.

Its proportions also make the device look shorter and wider than conventional book-style foldables.

The phone is tipped to measure 12.6mm when folded, making it thicker than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 at 9.7mm, the iPhone Duo at 11.3mm and the Xiaomi 18 Fold at 11mm.

It is also expected to weigh 215 grams. If true, that would put it above Samsung’s 201-gram foldable and the Xiaomi model, while keeping it close to Apple’s 214-gram device.

At the back, the phone is expected to feature two large camera rings positioned within a horizontal pill-shaped camera module. The reported colour options include Pantone Coriander and Pantone Dark Botanical Garden.

Motorola Wide Foldable – Expected Specifications

The report also reveals that the main screen is expected to be a 6.92-inch OLED panel with a 1,728 x 2,364-pixel resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate. The outer display could feature a 4.97-inch OLED panel with a 1,736 x 1,140-pixel resolution. Motorola could make up for the smaller panel with its much higher 165Hz refresh rate, while competing models are expected to use displays in the 120Hz class.

In terms of screen size, Motorola’s inner display would be smaller than the 7.6-inch panels reportedly used by both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and iPhone Duo, as well as the 7.58-inch display on the Xiaomi 18 Fold.

The foldable is tipped to run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. So far, only the 256GB storage configuration has been reported.

It is expected to pack a 5,000mAh dual-cell battery with support for USB-PD wired charging and 25W Qi2 wireless charging. The capacity would be higher than the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s 4,800mAh battery but lower than the 5,800mAh battery reportedly found in the iPhone Duo and the 6,000mAh unit on the Xiaomi 18 Fold. Xiaomi also has an advantage in wired charging, with support for 67W charging.

Motorola is reportedly planning a 50MP primary camera alongside a 50MP ultrawide sensor. There could also be separate 32MP selfie cameras on both the inner and outer displays. The 50MP ultrawide camera gives Motorola a higher-resolution ultrawide setup than the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s 50MP dual-camera system and the iPhone Duo’s two 48MP cameras. However, Xiaomi’s 18 Fold is expected to offer a more advanced camera setup with a 200MP Leica main sensor and a periscope telephoto camera.

Other reported features include IP48 and IP49 ratings for protection, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 with LE Audio and Android 17. The phone is also said to feature a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and a dedicated physical AI key.

Motorola’s First Wide Foldable Against Rivals – What To Expect?

Overall, it seems pricing could play an important role in how Motorola’s upcoming wide foldable takes on other foldable options from Samsung, Apple and Xiaomi. Anyhow, we can expect more details to emerge in the coming days as the launch approaches.
