Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the launch of its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo. The company unveiled the new device globally alongside iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max during its ‘Surprise and Shine’ event. Designed with a passport-style folding form factor, the iPhone Duo will be available in two colour options and is set to go on sale next month.
iPhone Duo Price in India and Availability
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, which is roughly Rs. 1,90,000 for the 256GB storage variant. Apple will offer the foldable with storage of up to 2TB.
In India, the iPhone Duo starts at Rs. 2,99,900 for the 256GB model. The 512GB version costs Rs. 3,24,900, while the 1TB and 2TB variants are priced at Rs. 3,74,900 and Rs. 4,49,900, respectively.
Pre-orders will open on October 16, while sales are scheduled to begin on October 23.
The foldable phone will be available in Star White and Night Sky finishes.
iPhone Duo Display and Design
The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR foldable display on the inside. This screen is 80 percent larger than the 6.3-inch display on the iPhone 18 Pro. Apple has used a custom Nano Texture finish to make the crease in the centre less noticeable while also reducing reflections. The inner display uses a custom polymer material with high-strength glass on top.
When folded, users get access to a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR cover display. The outer screen and rear panel are protected by Ceramic Shield.
Apple has made the iPhone Duo eSIM-only for global markets. According to the company, removing the physical SIM slot allowed it to create additional space for the battery.
iPhone Duo – Hardware
Apple also introduces Apple’s A20 Pro chipset built on TSMC’s 2nm process with the iPhone 18 lineup. The chip has a six-core CPU consisting of two new “Super Cores” and four new efficiency cores. Apple claims the CPU delivers 20 percent faster performance.
The chipset also includes a seven-core GPU that offers 40 percent faster graphics performance along with increased bandwidth. It gets new Neural Accelerators that provide 2x faster FP8 performance.
Apple has equipped the A20 Pro with a dual Neural Engine setup containing 32 cores in total. The company says this configuration improves efficiency and adds 8-bit floating-point support. Overall, the chipset offers a 50 percent increase in memory bandwidth.
According to Apple, the A20 Pro is 40 percent more powerful than the A19 Pro and twice as powerful as the A18 Pro. The phone also uses Apple’s C2 Modem, which is claimed to deliver 50 percent better performance than the C1x chip.
The iPhone Duo runs iOS 27, which has been customised specifically for the foldable form factor. The software adds several features aimed at making better use of the larger inner screen. These include split view for multitasking, the ability to pair apps and quickly switch between them with a swipe and support for using the phone while it is partially folded.
The device can also enter Standby mode even when it is not connected to a charger.
iPhone Duo Camera and Battery
For photography, the iPhone Duo gets a dual rear camera system. The main camera is a 48-megapixel Fusion Camera, the same camera used on the iPhone 18 Pro. It is paired with a 12-megapixel telephoto camera that supports 2x optical zoom.
The foldable can record video at resolutions and frame rates of up to 4K/120fps. On the front, there is a Centre Stage camera, while the inner foldable display houses an under-display FaceTime camera.
Despite its slim foldable design, Apple says the iPhone Duo offers “all-day battery life”. The company claims the phone can deliver up to 31 hours of video playback when using the inner display, while video playback using the outer screen can reach up to 44 hours.
With both displays being used, the iPhone Duo is claimed to offer up to 22 hours of battery backup on a single charge. Apple also says that just five minutes of charging can provide up to five hours of video playback.
