Samsung has been a leader in the foldable smartphone space, but 2025 is shaping up to be a challenging year as competition pushes design limits. To stay ahead, Samsung seems to be making some major changes to its foldable lineup and new renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 give us an exciting first look.
The renders shared by OnLeaks and Android Headlines aren’t official but are based on hardware measurements used by phone case manufacturers. While there’s some room for interpretation, they still offer a reliable glimpse at what’s coming
One of the biggest rumoured changes is a much thinner design. Reports suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be just 9.5mm thick when closed including the camera bump, while it could be only 4.5mm thick when unfolded. The inner screen is said to expand to 8.2 inches, while the outer display could be 6.5 inches. The device might measure 58.4 x 143.1 x 4.5mm when open suggesting a new aspect ratio.
If true, this would make the Z Fold 7 the largest-screen foldable in its category for now.
The Fold 7 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, the same chip used in the Galaxy S25 series, rather than Samsung’s Exynos processors.
The battery capacity is expected to remain unchanged, and while the camera setup may be similar to the Fold 6, rumours suggest a 200MP primary sensor could be in the works.
In addition to the Fold 7 and Flip 7, Samsung is also rumoured to launch a tri-fold smartphone alongside them. Unlike Huawei’s Z-shaped foldable, Samsung’s version could have a G-shaped fold, which means the inner display stays protected when closed.
According to a Korean news report, multiple industry sources said, “The double-folding multi-fold phone is being developed and produced simultaneously with the Z series,” and “It seems that they will be released at the same time.”
Here’s what we know so far about the tri-fold device –
