Samsung is seemingly going to ship its first device powered by a 3nm CPU, but it won’t be a smartphone.
If recent rumours turn out to be true, then Samsung’s 3nm processing technology will debut on the Galaxy Watch 7 wrist watch.
According to Korean media sources, Samsung is labeling this cutting-edge 3nm processor the Exynos W1000 and will start commercial production in the second half of 2023.
Using the advanced 3nm production node, Samsung hopes to deliver a 20% performance boost and significant improvements in power efficiency for the Galaxy Watch 7 compared to prior generations.
The 3nm Exynos W1000 processor will outperform Samsung’s own 4nm technology, which is scheduled for the Exynos 2400 in the Galaxy S24 smartphone next year.
However, the company’s 3nm capabilities will be integrated into the Exynos 2500 for improved performance in future flagship phones.
Beyond the headlining 3nm chip, the Galaxy Watch 7 is expected to double the storage to 32GB and feature bigger batteries plus advanced health tracking powered by ramped up AI capabilities.
Samsung will likely release three variants of the Watch 7, though it’s unclear if all models will use the 3nm Exynos W1000 or if it will be reserved for higher-end “Pro” versions.
While awaiting the Watch 7’s launch, Samsung fans are also eagerly anticipating the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6 foldables and the much-rumored Galaxy Ring wearable product.
