It’s official—Ramayana Part 1 starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita is slated for a Diwali 2026 release.
Part 2 will come out the next Diwali in 2027. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, this ambitious two-part film also features South star Yash as the antagonist, Ravana.
Producer Namit Malhotra confirmed the news on Instagram, sharing his excitement about bringing this legendary tale to the big screen.
Namit posted a poster of the film, saying, “More than a decade ago, I embarked on a noble quest to bring this epic that has ruled billions of hearts for over 5000 years to the big screen.” He expressed how proud he is to finally see it taking shape, adding that his team is working “tirelessly with only one purpose: to present the most authentic, sacred, and visually stunning adaptation of our history, our truth, and our culture – our ‘RAMAYANA’– for people across the world.”
He went on to say, “Join us as we fulfil our dream of bringing our greatest epic to life with pride and reverence. Part 1 in Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027. From our entire Ramayana Family.”
This announcement came just weeks after Yash confirmed his role as Ravana and revealed he’s also co-producing the project alongside Malhotra.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Yash emphasized the need for a collaborative approach to such a large-scale project saying, “To make a film with that kind of budget, you need those kinds of actors to come together and work for the project. It has to be beyond yourself and your stardom. We have to place the project and the vision first.”
He also shared his excitement about portraying Ravana noting, “For me, Ravana is the most exciting character to play as an actor… There’s vast scope to present it in a very different way.”
While the film is still in its pre-production stage, reports suggest that Lara Dutta, Sunny Deol and Sheeba Chaddha may also have roles.
