Google has initiated a new phase in addressing the storage access complications affecting Pixel 6 and subsequent models operating on Android 14.
An upcoming system update designed to rectify the issue is currently in the testing stage, with an official rollout anticipated to commence within the forthcoming fortnight.
The crux of the update is to rehabilitate devices struggling with media storage accessibility without the need to expunge the device’s data.
For those eager to mitigate this issue at the earliest, Google extends an invitation to enlist in the OTA testing via a designated Google Form.
Post-registration, participants can expect the test update to be delivered within a 24-hour window, although the complete update process may extend between one to two hours.
The testing is comprehensive, covering a range of Pixel devices including the Pixel 6 series through to the latest Pixel 8 Pro.
Participants are required to submit details such as the device’s IMEI number, serial number, and network provider to qualify for the update.
It’s important to note that this update might not promise data recovery for devices experiencing persistent reboots.
Google advises that users facing such severe issues resort to a Factory Data Reset (FDR), provided they have a recent backup, as this reset necessitates clearing the device’s storage.
The reset procedure can be performed through the device’s physical buttons, even amid continuous rebooting scenarios.
Pixel owners impacted by the Android 14 storage snag now have a proactive measure at their disposal, ensuring their devices return to a functioning state without the drastic step of data deletion, a move that underscores Google’s commitment to resolving user issues promptly.
To access the test OTA update, Pixel owners need to fill out a Google Form provided by Google. They must include their device information like IMEI, serial number, and carrier. After registration, the OTA update will be sent within 24 hours.
The test OTA for the Android 14 storage fix is available for Pixel devices starting from Pixel 6 to the Pixel 8 Pro series. Eligibility requires the device to be affected by the storage access issue post the Android 14 update.
If a Pixel device is stuck in a loop of continuous reboots, Google advises a Factory Data Reset (FDR). However, this step should only be taken if recent data backups are available, as it will clear the device’s storage.
