  • Foxconn is investing $1.5 billion to scale up iPhone production in Tamil Nadu shifting more supply away from China.
  • A new ₹3,700 crore chip plant near Noida in partnership with HCL Group will produce display driver chips, adding to India’s growing chip ecosystem.

Foxconn has just poured another $1.5 billion (around ₹12,500 crore) into India, further ramping up its efforts to shift more of Apple’s iPhone production away from China. This investment comes via Foxconn’s Singapore-based subsidiary, which purchased 12.7 billion shares in its Indian arm Yuzhan Technology India. The company, based in Tamil Nadu, plays a key role in Apple’s supply chain by making smartphone components.

The Indian government has been pushing hard to build its semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and things are moving fast. There are already five semiconductor units under construction and now with Foxconn’s new project, the total number is up to six.

New Chip Factory Near Noida with HCL

Just recently, Foxconn got the green light from the Indian government to build a semiconductor plant near Noida airport. This ₹3,700 crore joint venture with HCL Group will make display driver chips used in smartphones, laptops, cars, and other electronic gadgets. The facility is designed to handle 20,000 wafers and churn out up to 36 million chips each month.

India is backing this growth with infrastructure, policy support and academic involvement. Over 270 institutions and 70 startups are now involved in advanced chip design. At SCL Mohali, students have already completed 20 chip designs.

Big names like Applied Materials and Lam Research have also set up shop in India, and suppliers including Merck, Linde, Air Liquide and Inox are expanding to support the chip ecosystem.

Massive Foxconn iPhone plant in Karnataka

Despite recent controversial comments from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who reportedly told Apple CEO Tim Cook, “I don’t want you building in India”, Apple is clearly committed to its India plans.

CEO Tim Cook has said that most iPhones sold in the U.S. will soon be made in India. That shift is already happening at Foxconn’s 300-acre plant in Devanahalli, Karnataka, where work is moving full steam ahead. On Monday, production continued smoothly, and construction of worker dormitories, a common part of the Foxconn model, was ongoing.

The Karnataka facility, which spans Doddagollahalli and Chapparadahalli villages, is about 34 km from Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. Foxconn is investing $2.56 billion (over ₹21,000 crore) into this plant.

The first phase (2023–24) saw an investment of ₹3,000 crore, and a similar amount is expected for phase two (2026–27). Foxconn aims to produce around 100,000 iPhones at the site by December this year.

FAQs

Q1. How much is Foxconn investing to boost iPhone production in India?

Answer. Foxconn is investing $1.5 billion (₹12,500 crore) in its Tamil Nadu plant to ramp up iPhone production, shifting more supply away from China.

Q2. What is Foxconn’s new semiconductor project in India?

Answer. Foxconn, in partnership with HCL Group, is building a ₹3,700 crore semiconductor plant near Noida, producing display driver chips for smartphones and electronics.

Q3. Where is Foxconn’s largest iPhone manufacturing facility in India located?

Answer. Foxconn’s 300-acre iPhone plant is situated near Bengaluru, Karnataka, with a $2.56 billion investment aiming to produce 100,000 iPhones by December 2025.

It appears we are getting some concrete updates on the upcoming OnePlus flagship. New leaks around the OnePlus 15 are giving us a clearer picture of what to expect from the next flagship. According to famous tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the phone could pack a huge battery, super fast charging and a refreshed design with a flat display.

In case you’re wondering, OnePlus is expected to skip the “14” just like it skipped the “4” in the past because the number is considered unlucky in some Asian cultures. So, the brand is likely jumping straight to the OnePlus 15 after the OnePlus 13. In any case, here’s what we know about the phone.

OnePlus 15 – What We Know?

image

Caption – Tipster Digital Chat Station’s recent post on Weibo. (Screenshot credit – Gizmochina)

Digital Chat Station says the OnePlus 15 prototype is based on the SM8850 chip likely the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (possibly called Snapdragon 8 Elite 2). The phone is being described as performance-focused, so don’t expect massive upgrades to the camera, though there could still be some tweaks.

One of the standout features could be the battery, which reportedly “starts with a 7” suggesting a 7,000mAh+ capacity. That’s huge by flagship standards. It’s also tipped to support 100W wired and wireless charging. Despite this large battery, OnePlus is aiming to keep the design slim and lightweight.

The OnePlus 15 is expected to feature a flat display, a shift from the curved panels we’ve seen since the OnePlus 7 Pro. The screen could be a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED with 1.5K resolution and ultra-thin bezels, made possible by LIPO packaging technology. This helps create a symmetrical and clean front look.

The phone is said to include a 0916 vibration motor for better haptics, a single-point ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and a fibreglass back panel. For protection, it will offer IP68/IP69 dust and water resistance.

As of now, OnePlus is A/B testing two versions of a 50MP triple camera system. Both setups include a main sensor (one standard, one ultra-large), an ultra-wide camera and a periscope telephoto lens with around 3x zoom. OnePlus is reportedly deciding between small and medium sensor sizes for the periscope unit.

Expected launch

The China launch for the OnePlus 15 is expected around October 2025, followed by a global release in January 2026.

FAQs

Q1. What is the expected battery and charging capability of the OnePlus 15?

Answer. The OnePlus 15 is rumoured to feature a 7,000mAh+ battery with 100W wired and wireless fast charging, all while maintaining a slim and lightweight design.

Q2. What display and build quality can we expect from OnePlus 15?

Answer. It is expected to have a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED flat display with 1.5K resolution and ultra-thin bezels, a fibreglass back panel, and IP68/IP69 water resistance.

Q3. What chipset and camera setup will the OnePlus 15 have?

Answer. The phone is likely powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (Elite 2) chipset and is undergoing A/B testing for a 50MP triple camera system, featuring an ultra-wide and periscope telephoto lens with 3x zoom.

On X (formerly Twitter), Mohan demanded immediate action, saying, “An Instagram account is secretly filming women on Namma Metro, and shockingly, 5,000 people are following it. It’s a blatant violation of privacy and dignity, not just creepy but a serious crime. @BlrCityPolice, take immediate action.” He tagged the Bengaluru City Police, urging them to crack down on the account.

The issue has sparked concern at a time when metro authorities are already trying to improve public behaviour on trains. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) recently announced stricter enforcement against spitting and chewing tobacco in stations and trains. These efforts include random physical checks, better CCTV surveillance and fines to promote cleaner and safer commuting.

An FIR has been filed in connection with the case, according to NDTV. The account in question, reportedly named “Bangalore Metro Chicks,” has now deleted all of its content following backlash.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh B Jagalasar responded to the viral post and confirmed, “An FIR has been booked in this regard at Banashankari PS and investigation is taken up.” Police are now working to track down both the person who filmed the videos and the individual managing the account.

The situation has caused a wave of anger online. One concerned user posted, “As a woman who uses the metro every day, this is absolutely horrifying to me! @OfficialBMRCL please take note!” Another user added, “The content is vulgar & objectifying. Please take action @BlrCityPolice @NCWIndia. No one deserves to be filmed and sexualised in public. Report & RT!!!!”

MP Tejasvi Surya also voiced strong condemnation, posting on X, “Secretly photographing women in public transport is not just vile — it’s a serious crime. This is a gross violation of dignity and safety, and there must be zero tolerance for such behaviour.”

Authorities have assured that the investigation is underway and that those responsible will be brought to justice.
