OnePlus takes a Dig at Galaxy S23 Ultra Price, says OnePlus 11 will not be Overpriced
OnePlus, which is gearing up to launch the OnePlus 11 in India on February 7th, has taken multiple digs at Samsung and the steep Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra price.
In a series of tweets wherein even Apple has not been spared, OnePlus has gone as far as offering a $200 extra trade-in credit for those exchanging a Samsung Galaxy phone for the upcoming OnePlus 11 5G in the US.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra prices were revealed starting at Rs 1,24,999 in India and $1,199 (over Rs 98,000) in the US. The India starting price is a Rs 15,000 bump over the Galaxy S22 Ultra starting price from last year.
Meanwhile, a recent report indicated the OnePlus 11 5G is expected to be priced at Rs 54,999 for the 12GB+256GB storage variant.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S23 has been priced at £74,999 for the base variant of 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, while the top end variant of the smartphone 8GB RAM with 256GB variant is priced at §79,999.
Whereas the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus is priced at 794,999 for the base variant of 8GB RAM with 256GB storage. The 8GB RAM with 512GB storage variant of the Galaxy S23 Plus is priced at (1,04,999).
The most powerful smartphone of the Korean giant – Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is priced at 71,24,999 for the 12GB RAM with 256GB storage variant. Moreover, the device also comes in 12GB RAM with 512GB storage and 12GB RAM with 1TB storage variants that are priced £1,34,999 and 71,54,999, respectively.
Speaking of colour options, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will be available in Phantom Black, Green and Cream colours.
Additionally, the smartphone will also come in Graphite, Lime, Red and Sky Blue colours exclusively on Samsung.com. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus comes in Phantom Black and Cream colours, whereas the vanilla S23 is available in Cream, Phantom Black, Green and Lavender finishes.
You can check out the Twitter thread below for the banter.
OnePlus has also mocked Samsung for bringing a 200MP primary camera on the Ultra model but not including a charger in the box. The company has also lashed out at the Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy S22 Ultra’s same design, besides tweeting that they are good with just watching movies on phones, not making them.
OnePlus apparently has an explanation for whySamsung phones are called Galaxy. “Why do they call it the Galaxy? Astronomical pricing.” OnePlus USA also rhetorically said, “In what Galaxy are you paying $1199 for ‘Ultra’?” Ironically, in the past, Samsung has been releasing advertisements taking a dig at its closest competitor, Apple.
OnePlus Cloud 11 Launch Event
OnePlus is hosting a launch event in New Delhi on February 7th, where they’ll be unveiling the OnePlus 11 5G, OnePlus 11R, their first-ever tablet called the OnePlus Pad, and the OnePlus Buds Pro 2. On the same date, the OnePlus 11R will launch as the OnePlus Ace 2 in China.
OnePlus even makes fun of Samsung’s decision to add a 200-megapixel camera but not include a charger in the box. The company also lashed Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy S22 Ultra’s same design.
Samsung, like Apple, does not provide chargers in smartphone boxes for environmental reasons. However, removing chargers may also boost the company’s sale of phone accessories such as chargers. That is why OnePlus took a jibe at the company for a 200-megapixel primary but no charger in the box.
Notably, most Samsung phones’ charging speed maxes out at 45W, which should fully charge the device in an hour. OnePlus introduced 150W charging support on OnePlus 10R last year. The OnePlus 10R is capable of attaining a full charge with the bundled charger in roughly 30 minutes.
Regardless of the banter, Samsung is one of the leading smartphone brands globally and in the US. A Counterpoint report pointed out that in Q3 2022, Apple had 50 per cent market share in the US, followed by Samsung with 24 per cent. OnePlus is slowly catching up and has only 1 per cent share.
