Nothing is gearing up to launch its next-generation earbuds, the Nothing Ear (3) on September 18. Positioned as a more advanced option compared to the budget-friendly Nothing Ear (a), the new model is already creating buzz with teasers showcasing fresh design upgrades and features.
In a teaser video shared on the company’s website, the Ear (3) is shown in the familiar silver and white finish. However, the charging case this time steals the spotlight. While the overall shape and size remain similar to past generations, the case now comes with several notable changes.
“We’re upgrading our design craftsmanship to achieve the ultra-slim design of the ear buds, minimising the clearance between components, and we also re-engineered the metal antenna to a flat finish and controlled its thickness to just 0.35 mm, reaching the current industry limit. The new design features 100% anodised recycled aluminium on the case, as well as the introduction of smoother curves, a more ergonomic shape and a breakthrough Super Mic,” says the brand.
The case retains its transparent lid but now features a new silver aluminium base, replacing the plastic used in earlier versions. This shift to aluminium makes the Ear (3) feel more premium, though it also raises questions about wireless charging support since the underside of the case has not yet been revealed.
A key addition is the “talk” button on the front, alongside what appears to be a microphone or speaker next to the USB-C port. Nothing refers to this as the “Super Mic”, but it hasn’t disclosed full details. The pairing button also seems to have been shifted to the base of the case. While the exact function of the “talk” button remains unclear, it’s speculated that it could tie into Nothing’s ChatGPT integration.
According to Nothing, the Ear (3) earbuds are built with a 0.35mm-thin metal antenna and feature smaller gap dimensions compared to the previous generation, offering a sleeker and more refined look. The earbuds themselves have also been slightly redesigned for improved comfort during extended use.
The transparent design language remains intact, with the case lid and earbud covers retaining Nothing’s signature aesthetic.
With these upgrades, the Nothing Ear (3) is shaping up to be a more polished and premium version of its predecessors, combining refined design with new hardware elements like the “talk” button and Super Mic.
