Meta’s Upcoming Smart Glasses May Launch as ‘Meta Celeste’ With Built-in Game and Wristband Control

Highlights

  • Upcoming Meta smart glasses could possibly be launching as Meta Celeste.
  • Leaked images show a Ray-Ban-style frame with thicker arms, touch bar controls, and a Ceres wristband that uses muscle signals for gestures like pinching and rotating.
  • The glasses are expected to run a custom Android version, may include a mini-game called Hypertrail inspired by Galaga and a display in the lower right lens.

Meta’s next-gen smart glasses, which were previously codenamed Hypernova, might soon launch under the new name Meta Celeste. In a new leak, a tipster has shared the first image of the upcoming wearable and also hinted at both design changes and some unique features, including a built-in mini-game. Here’s what we know about the upcoming tech.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), tipster Luna shared a low-resolution image of the leaked Meta Hypernova smart glasses. The design is similar to the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses, but with slightly thicker arms and a familiar solid colour scheme. The frame includes cameras and sensors on both sides.

The glasses are expected to come with a touch bar on the left side, allowing users to interact with the device using gestures like double-tapping to click photos or record videos.

A second leaked image shows a smart wristband called Ceres, which may come bundled with the glasses. This eMG wristband uses sensors to detect muscle signals from your wrist to control the glasses.

Using the Ceres band, users could perform actions like –

  • Pinching the index finger and thumb to scroll or select
  • Rotating the wrist to navigate
  • Possibly even handwriting input, though that feature may not be ready at launch

Meta is also said to be testing tap and swipe-based controls, giving users multiple ways to interact with the glasses.

Meanwhile, early firmware reveals a mini-game called Hypertrail, which reportedly takes inspiration from the classic arcade game Galaga. This could be a fun, built-in extra on the smart glasses.

Reports suggest that the device will run on a highly customised Android version, and will likely feature a single display located in the lower right corner of the right lens.

Price and Launch Name

Though the project is still codenamed Hypernova, it may officially launch under the name Meta Celeste, styled as “Meta | Celeste”, according to the leak.

As for price, it is expected to fall between $1,000 (around ₹85,600) and $1,400 (around ₹1,19,800) in the US when it launches.
