One of the long-awaited features of Apple Watches was blood pressure monitoring, earlier reported to be in development for Series 10.
However, reports now suggest the feature might not arrive anytime soon.
The recent report doesn’t provide any specific reasons for the delay. It surely suggests that some issues were reported after testing the health feature with the Series 10.
Bloomberg’s trusted Apple reporter Mark Gurman in his latest weekend newsletter revealed that the company may have hit snags during the Series 10 design testing phase.
“I’m told that long-awaited capability ran into problems during testing, specifically with the updated design for the Series 10, so Apple delayed it,” Gurman suggests.
Previously, we had contradictory claims when it came to the Apple Watch blood pressure feature.
On one hand, we had Nikkei in 2021 claiming that the feature will arrive in the Apple Watch Series 7.
On the other hand, Gurman refuted Nikkei’s claim suggesting different plans of the Cupertino giant.
It is well-known in tech circles that Apple has been working on adding blood pressure monitoring to Apple Watches for a while now.
Gurman too confirmed back in 2022 that it was at least a couple of years away hinting at the arrival of the feature with Series 10.
Blood pressure monitoring in the traditional medical field requires bulky equipment.
There are pressure cuffs and scales involved, both of which need to be attached to the patients.
A 9to5Mac report quotes the NCBI study to explain this further.
“When the cuff is fully inflated to [a high] pressure, no blood flow occurs through the artery. As the cuff is deflated below the systolic pressure, the reduced pressure exerted on the artery allows blood to flow through it and sets up a detectable vibration in the arterial wall. When the cuff pressure falls below the patient’s diastolic pressure, blood flows smoothly through the artery in the usual pulses, without any vibration being set up in the wall.”
As per the 9to5Mac report, Apple Watch blood pressure monitoring will instead techniques similar to the heart-rate sensor we have seen in these watches.
It will study the pulse wave and estimate any likely stiffness of the arterial wall.

“Using a wrist blood pressure monitor at home often gives falsely high readings due to poor positioning. If you use one, place it directly over the wrist artery, called the radial artery, where you can feel the pulse. Keep your wrist at heart level. Be still during the test and don’t bend the wrist. Bending the wrist can cause incorrect readings.
It’s common for blood pressure readings taken at home on any type of monitor to be different from those taken at a medical office. If you have a wrist blood pressure monitor, take the device to your healthcare professional’s office. Your care team can compare the blood pressure in your arm and wrist to make sure your device is working well.”
This could be a reason Apple is taking its time to release the feature. The company is most likely working on improving the accuracy of the feature before going ahead with the launch.

The Federal Drug Administration approved the feature just in time before the WatchOS 11 rollout.
According to reports, FDA approval came on the basis that Apple’s feature method is “substantially equivalent to methods already approved by the FDA.”
“Empowering consumers everywhere to have the ability to reliably identify the presence of abnormal breathing patterns during sleep can help uncover a woefully underdiagnosed and serious medical condition such as sleep apnea,” Sairam Parthasarathy, professor of medicine at the University of Arizona and director of Health Sciences Center for Sleep, Circadian and Neurosciences Center for Sleep, UA Health Sciences, said in a statement. “This is a major step forward in improving public health.”
“We are so excited about the incredible impact this feature can make for the millions of people living with undiagnosed sleep apnea,” Dr. Sumbul Desai, VP of Health at Apple said while introducing the upcoming Apple Watch feature.
Apple’s sleep apnea detection feature is “potentially a game changer” for patients who have been reluctant to seek out testing, said Dr. David Kuhlmann, a physician who has treated sleep disorders for nearly two decades in Missouri. Kuhlmann also is on the board of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, which is a professional society for sleep medicine clinicians. Kuhlmann said the feature could be helpful for patients who sleep alone, and he thinks a lot of people will be surprised to find out they’re showing signs of sleep apnea. Kuhlmann said users should approach Apple’s sleep apnea data with some caution, as readings could be erroneous. He said it is unlikely that insurance companies will begin paying for sleep apnea therapies like CPAP machines based on Apple Watch data alone, which is why it is important for patients to follow up with their healthcare providers to get an official diagnosis. “People do need to be diagnosed in order to be treated,” Kuhlmann told CNBC in an interview.

Tech DIY is not something that we get to explore often. However, sometimes we come across a tutorial online that feels motivating enough to try our hands at achieving the next level of technological upgrade.
Before we get to the tutorial, let’s go down the memory lane for a bit.
Back in 2022, Xiaomi revealed a concept smartphone with a mount for Leica M lenses based on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra.

What looked like a hybrid between a smartphone and a mirrorless camera, Xiaomi’s idea had an exposed 1” sensor and a mount for removable lenses.
The idea was fascinating. However, it only remained a concept and regular consumers never got to experience it in an available product.
Now, a video tutorial on YouTube from the channel Mod and Shoot demonstrates something similar that users can create themselves. Provided, you have enough tech DIY skills.
In the YouTube video, the creator of this mod does a similar modification on a Sharp Aquos R6.

Sharp Aquos R6 is a higher-resolution 47MP 1” sensor and can shoot 8K video.
We also get to see how the phone’s original 19mm Leica Summicron lens was swapped out for a C mount. This type of mount was originally used on 16mm cameras and is now more common in security cameras.
The video shows that with the right adapter, this setup can use lenses from many other cameras.
However, it is important to note that there are two main issues with this concept: one is the obvious added bulk and two is the fact that autofocus doesn’t work. Basically, with this camera setup, you will have to focus manually.
