The Delhi government, in collaboration with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), has announced a new initiative to train 100 school teachers in using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for personalised learning and improved classroom assessments.

The training programme aims to equip teachers with the skills to integrate AI into their teaching practices, enabling them to adopt more innovative and efficient approaches to education. According to an official SCERT circular released on Friday, the move is part of Delhi’s broader effort to prepare students for a digitally-driven future.

Beyond classroom teaching, the initiative will also help educators handle non-teaching responsibilities such as creating PowerPoint presentations, designing extracurricular activities, and editing visuals, a government official told PTI.

Training Under the AI-Mediated Classroom Project

The hands-on training will be held on October 8 and 9 under the ‘AI-Mediated Classroom Project’, a special programme designed to familiarise teachers with AI-based tools and their applications in education.

Currently, Delhi’s government school system includes 1,075 schools, 16,633 teachers, and 8,24,224 students.

According to SCERT, the project will be implemented in two phases.

In the first phase, 100 Computer Science teachers from 50 selected government schools will undergo a two-day capacity-building programme. These trained teachers will later act as master trainers for their respective institutions.

“Once trained, these 100 teachers will serve as master trainers and will guide other teachers on effectively using AI tools,” an official said.

The second phase will focus on school-level training for subject teachers of Mathematics, Science, English, Hindi, and Social Science, primarily those teaching Classes 6 and 9. Each participating school will nominate three teachers from each subject, totalling 15 teachers per school, to receive the training.

Follow-Up Sessions and Feedback

SCERT officials confirmed that the project will include follow-up sessions and feedback collection to evaluate how effectively teachers are using the introduced AI tools in real classrooms. “We are not only launching this initiative but will also conduct follow-up sessions and gather feedback from teachers to assess how well they are able to use these tools,” he added.

The official further explained that teachers often spend significant time preparing teaching materials, visual aids, and cultural activity plans. “With AI assisting in these areas, teachers can devote more time to interacting with students and enhancing the quality of classroom learning,” he said.

Some of the tools likely to be included in the training are –

  • Napkin, which generates images from text.
  • Gamma, a tool that quickly creates PowerPoint presentations.

Building Future-Ready Classrooms

SCERT stated that the AI-Mediated Classroom Project aligns with Delhi’s vision of creating future-ready classrooms and promoting AI integration in school education.

“It aims to empower teachers to adopt innovative pedagogical methods, enhance classroom engagement, and improve learning outcomes through AI-based practices, the department said.

The Directorate of Education has already identified and recommended 50 government schools across Delhi for the pilot phase and selected 100 teachers to participate in the initial round of training, SCERT confirmed.

Instagram has unveiled a brand-new creator recognition program called “Rings.” Much like YouTube’s Creator Award plaques, these Rings serve as Instagram’s way of honouring innovative creators, but with a unique twist.

Instagram Ring Awards

The Meta-owned platform announced the new creator awards in a blog post titled “Introducing Instagram Rings: A New Award Celebrating Creativity.” Introducing the new initiative, the platform writes, “We’re excited to share something new: Rings – an award from Instagram that’s all about celebrating those who aren’t afraid to take creative chances and do it their way. Those who bring people together over their creativity, and deserve recognition.”

Winners of the Rings award will receive a gold ring around their Instagram profile photo, along with the ability to customise their profile background colour and the ‘like’ button. Instagram’s Head of Fashion Partnerships, Eva Chen, described it as “something that we haven’t really ever done before.”

“Rings isn’t about honouring a specific type of content — it honours a spirit,” Instagram said in its press release. “One theme we hear from creators all over the world is the excitement and nervousness that come with making something and putting it out into the world. It takes courage to chase an idea, quiet that inner critic, and create anyway. This award is for the creators who don’t just participate in culture but shift it, break through whatever barrier holds them back to realize their ambitions. Because every act of creativity, big or small, can lead to something great,” the platform added.

Real, Physical Ring To Be Awarded

That is not all! In addition to the digital perks, honorees will also be given a real, physical ring as a symbol of their creative spirit.

The Rings are designed by Grace Wales Bonner, a renowned fashion designer, and while there’s no cash prize involved, recipients will get both the physical ring and a digital replica to display on their Instagram profile and Stories.

According to Instagram, Wales Bonner’s ring design is meant to “inspire even more creativity and remind us all to take creative chances.”

Instagram Ring Award Judges for 2025

image

The winners were selected by a panel of judges comprising big names from different industries. This list of 2025 judges include names like Spike Lee, Marc Jacobs, Grace Wales Bonner, KAWS, Pat McGrath, Marques Brownlee (MKBHD), Yara Shahidi, Cedric Grolet, Ilona Maher, Tainy, Murad Osmann, Eva Chen, and Instagram head Adam Mosseri.

Marques Brownlee, one of the judges and a prominent tech creator with over 20 million YouTube subscribers and 5.1 million Instagram followers, told Mashable that he values “high effort content.” He added, “A really big part of my own judging criteria was high effort content and creative, and taking risks and trying to make really good stuff.”

While the Rings may draw comparisons to YouTube’s Creator plaques, Brownlee clarified that this recognition isn’t tied to follower count. Instead, it’s about peer recognition and creative impact. “I’m excited about the creators that will get recognized for this and hopefully the future of the program. Hopefully there’s a long future of Rings after this initial wave,” he said.

Unlike other award programs, the Rings do not have fixed categories. Winners will come from a variety of content areas and creative disciplines. As Eva Chen explained, “The criteria was really tough. But really, we were looking for people who take creative chances and who are always pushing the envelope and thinking about new ways to talk to their audience.”

Instagram hopes this initiative will grow into a recurring creator tradition. “We’d love to see how it’s received and how the winners enjoy the literal Instagram spotlight,” Chen said.

The winners of the first-ever Instagram Rings awards will be announced on October 16.

FAQs

Q1. What is Instagram’s ‘Rings’ award and who is it for?

Answer. Honorees get a gold ring around their profile photo, custom profile features (like background colour and ‘like’ button), a physical ring designed by Grace Wales Bonner, and a digital replica for Stories.

Q3. How are Rings winners selected and who are the judges?

Instagram Launches Maps Feature in India With More Privacy

0

Highlights

  • Instagram’s Maps feature launches in India with opt-in location sharing and custom controls.
  • Users must manually enable the Maps feature, which allows sharing of the last active location with selected friends or mutual followers.
  • Location-tagged content like Reels and Stories appears on the map for 24 hours with preview and privacy indicators to guide sharing.

Instagram has officially introduced its Maps feature in India, following its initial rollout in August. Announced in a blog post, the new feature aims to make location-based interactions easier while giving users more control over their privacy.

The platform explains, “In August we announced Instagram Map, a new feature to stay up-to-date with friends. You can opt in to sharing your last active location with friends you choose, and you can turn it off anytime. You can also open the map to see content your friends and favorite creators are posting from interesting or fun locations. No matter how you use the map, you and your friends have a new, lightweight way to connect with each other.”

Here’s everything you need to know.

Instagram Maps Now In India

image

Unlike typical updates, the Maps feature is opt-in by default, meaning users need to manually enable it from the app’s settings before they can use it. Once activated, users can share their last active location with friends they select, and view friends’ updates or location-tagged posts directly on the map.

Location sharing can be customised, which means it can either be visible to a close circle of friends or to mutual followers.

The feature also allows users to explore geo-tagged Reels, Stories, Notes, and posts from people they follow. It can be handy for discovering nearby cafés, trending hangout spots, or travel updates from friends.

To strengthen privacy, parents will receive alerts whenever their teen shares their location on Instagram. They’ll also have the option to turn off the feature entirely.

Brett Westervelt, VP and Head of Instagram Design, explained in a video in the blog post that two key changes have been made since the US and Canada rollout. The first is a persistent indicator at the top of the map and inbox reminding users whether or not their location is being shared. The second change ensures that when users tag a location on Instagram, they are reminded that the location remains visible for 24 hours.

Instagram will also show an educational reminder when users tag a location in a Story, Reel, or post, notifying them that it will appear on the Map. Additionally, profile photos have been removed from Map content to avoid confusion and make it clear that pins on the map do not represent a user’s real-time location.

Before posting, users will also see a preview of how their content will appear on the Map, helping them decide whether to share it or not.

Privacy Tips and Controls

If you’re cautious about privacy, it’s best not to share your live location with everyone. Instead, keep it restricted to a small circle of trusted friends.

Whenever you add a location tag to a Story, Reel, or Post, that content will appear on the Map, so use the preview option to check how it looks before sharing. The banner on the Map and the Notes tray also shows whether your location is currently being shared.

Users can change their Map settings anytime including toggling location sharing on or off, or deciding which friends can view their updates. Importantly, location sharing works only with mutual followers to ensure privacy.

When enabled, Instagram updates your location each time you open the app, and it automatically disappears after 24 hours unless the app is reopened.

According to a Business Standard report, the platform uses three icons to indicate your sharing status. These are –

  • Blue arrow when location sharing is active
  • Red dot when location sharing is turned off
  • Orange triangle when location permissions need to be enabled

All in all, this latest rollout underscores Instagram’s ongoing efforts to make social discovery more interactive. While concerns are there, the platform claims that user safety and privacy remain at the forefront.

FAQs

Q1. How do I enable and control Instagram’s Maps feature?

Answer. To use Instagram Maps, you must manually enable it from the app’s settings. Once activated, you can share your last active location with selected friends or mutual followers.

Q2. What privacy safeguards are included in the Maps feature?

Answer. Instagram has added several privacy controls such as Location sharing is limited to mutual followers, a persistent banner shows whether your location is being shared, profile photos are removed from map pins to avoid confusion and parents receive alerts when teens share their location and can disable the feature.

Q3. What kind of content appears on Instagram Maps?

Answer. Geo-tagged Reels, Stories, Notes, and posts from people you follow will appear on the map. When you tag a location, Instagram shows a preview of how your content will look on the map and reminds you that it will be visible for 24 hours.

Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro Appear on Certification, Tipped to Launch by February 2026, India Launch Also Expect

0

Highlights

  • Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro appeared on the IMEI database, hinting at a February 2026 launch.
  • The 17T may feature the Dimensity 8500, while the 17T Pro could use the Dimensity 9500.
  • Meanwhile, Xiaomi 17 series benchmarks show solid performance but limited chipset optimisation.

Xiaomi is reportedly gearing up to launch its next-generation T-series flagships, the Xiaomi 17T and Xiaomi 17T Pro. The company recently introduced the Xiaomi 15T lineup in September 2025, but new developments indicate that the successors could arrive as soon as February 2026. Here’s what we know.

Xiaomi 17T, 17T Pro Listed on IMEI Database

As per a report from XiaomiTime, two new Xiaomi smartphones have been spotted on the IMEI database with model numbers 2602EPTC0G and 2602EPTC0R, believed to belong to the Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro. The publication notes that these “T” series models often act as the global counterparts to China’s Redmi K-series, typically launching towards the end of the year.

However, the early database appearance hints that Xiaomi may be shifting its schedule forward this time. The report also highlights that the “2602” prefix could signify a February 2026 release window, marking an unusually early debut for the lineup. Internally, the devices reportedly carry the codenames “chagall” and “warhol.”

It remains uncertain whether the company will officially label the upcoming phones as the Xiaomi 16T or jump straight to the 17T series. Xiaomi previously skipped the number 16 for its flagship lineup to align naming with Apple’s iPhone 17 series. Given that the “T” models are positioned as slightly toned-down versions of Xiaomi’s primary flagships, the same naming strategy might continue.

Expected Hardware and Chipsets

According to the leak, the Xiaomi 17T could be powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500 chipset, while the Xiaomi 17T Pro might feature the more powerful Dimensity 9500. For comparison, the previous Xiaomi 15T and 15T Pro came with the Dimensity 8400 and Dimensity 9400+ processors, respectively.

While details about other specifications are still limited, the early certification suggests that development is already underway with more information expected to surface in the coming months.

Global Launch Timeline

Following the pattern of previous releases, the Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro are likely to launch globally including in India shortly after their debut in China.

In related updates, Xiaomi recently introduced the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max in China. The company is also expected to announce the Xiaomi 17s Pro and 17 Ultra models in the first half of 2026. Out of these, only the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra are expected to reach global markets next year.

Xiaomi 17 Series On Benchmarks

The Xiaomi 17 lineup became the first to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. While performance improvements are visible over its predecessors, benchmark results reveal that Xiaomi’s implementation may not fully utilise the chipset’s potential.

According to AnTuTu’s performance chart, the Xiaomi 17 achieved a CPU score of 981,459, which is only about 3% higher than the Vivo X200 Ultra’s 959,329 points, even though the latter uses last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. Interestingly, both the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max scored slightly lower than the standard Xiaomi 17.

Similarly, Geekbench results tell a comparable story. While pre-launch leaks hinted at scores above 3,700 (single-core) and 11,000 (multi-core), real-world results fell short. For instance, Ben’s Gadget Reviews recorded scores of 3,376 and 10,120, Sahil Karoul’s unit achieved 3,328 and 10,210, and Mrwhosetheboss’s unit scored 3,407 and 10,416. Although these are respectable numbers, they barely surpass the Oppo Find X8 Ultra’s scores of 3,145 and 9,722, and remain significantly below the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 QRD reference device with 3,832 and 12,459 points.

These figures suggest that while the Xiaomi 17 series performs well, it doesn’t fully reflect the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5’s maximum capabilities, something often attributed to Xiaomi’s conservative performance tuning and software optimisation choices. As a result, upcoming flagships from Honor, Oppo, and RedMagic may offer a better picture of what Qualcomm’s latest chipset can truly deliver.
