Apple Planning to Introduce Ads in Apple Maps Search by 2026: Report

0

Highlights

  • Apple is reportedly planning to introduce paid search ads in Apple Maps by spring 2026.
  • The system will resemble App Store ads, using keyword bidding and AI algorithms to ensure sponsored listings are relevant and visually refined.
  • Critics warn of consumer dissatisfaction citing growing ad presence across iOS despite premium device pricing.

Apple may soon start showing advertisements within Apple Maps with the feature expected to roll out in 2026. The tip comes from the latest edition of Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter. The move is said to be part of Apple’s broader push to expand its advertising business across iOS. Here’s what we know so far.

Ads in Apple Maps Soon

The Bloomberg report suggests that Apple’s internal advertising division is “gaining traction,” and the company now has a roadmap to integrate paid placements into Apple Maps’ search feature next year. This would allow businesses to pay for higher visibility in search results, giving them more prominent placement when users look for relevant locations or services.

Gurman notes that the system will function “quite similar” to the App Store’s advertising model, where developers can bid on specific keywords to improve discoverability. However, unlike the App Store that displays ads on its main page, Apple Maps won’t feature homepage ads, at least initially.

Apple reportedly plans to use AI algorithms to ensure that sponsored listings remain “relevant and useful” to users. Gurman also claims that Apple is working to make the Maps advertising interface more intuitive and visually polished than Google Maps, according to Bloomberg.

Possible Consumer Backlash

While the move could open a new revenue stream for Apple, Gurman warns that it also comes with risks. “The big risk Apple faces here is a potential consumer backlash, Gurman wrote. “Some customers are already unhappy that the iPhone has been turned into a digital billboard for services like AppleCare+, Apple Music, Apple TV and Fitness+. The company also pushes web-like ad slots within Apple News. When you consider that an iPhone can cost up to $2,000, some see this as an unseemly money grab.”

If Apple sticks to its current timeline, ads in Apple Maps could make their debut with iOS 26.4 or iOS 26.5. As for possible timing, it will most likely arrive sometime in the spring of 2026.

Apple is yet to officially confirm this development that would signal a continued expansion of Apple’s advertising ecosystem.

FAQs

Q1. When will Apple Maps start showing ads?

Answer. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to roll out search ads in Apple Maps by spring 2026, likely with iOS 26.4 or iOS 26.5.

Q2. How will ads work in Apple Maps?

Answer. Businesses will be able to bid on keywords to appear more prominently in search results, similar to the App Store’s ad model. Homepage ads won’t be included initially.

Q3. Will Apple use AI to manage these ads in Apple Maps?

Answer. Yes, Apple reportedly plans to use AI algorithms to ensure sponsored listings in Maps are relevant and useful, with a more polished interface than Google Maps.

Foxconn Interconnect Technology (FIT), the Indian arm of Taiwan’s Foxconn, is gearing up for a major scale-up at its Hyderabad plant to meet the rising international demand for Apple’s AirPods, as reported by The Economic Times. This development marks another key step in Foxconn’s long-term strategy to move part of its manufacturing base out of China and deepen its roots in India.

The Kongara Kalan facility, located roughly 15 km from Hyderabad’s international airport, began full-scale AirPods production in April. Over the next six to eight months, FIT plans to upgrade five of its existing assembly lines and boost monthly production from a little over 100,000 units to about 200,000. The company is transferring part of its production machinery from Vietnam to India and is also expected to add one or two entirely new lines to support the increase.

According to sources quoted in the report, the factory currently employs around 2,000 workers. This number is set to more than double, reaching close to 5,000 within the next eight months as capacity expands.

FIT’s total investment in the Hyderabad unit will climb to approximately ₹4,800 crore with more than ₹3,000 crore already deployed. The funds have gone toward equipment transfers from Vietnam and the installation of new machines for producing Apple’s latest audio products including the AirPods 4 launched last September and the new AirPods Pro 3 released earlier this year.

Supply Bottlenecks Eased

Production at the Telangana plant had briefly slowed earlier this year because of a shortage of dysprosium. It is a rare earth metal that became harder to source following China’s export restrictions. However, operations returned to normal in August after Beijing eased those limits and helped FIT restore consistent production output.

The Hyderabad plant is part of a larger $550 million project announced in May 2023 under Chang Yi Interconnect Technology (India) Pvt. Ltd. The initiative aims to create around 24,000 jobs and expand Apple accessory manufacturing in India including AirPods, cables, and connectors for both domestic and international markets. The project began with $150 million in funding and later secured an additional $400 million for expansion.

India’s Role in Apple’s Global Supply Network

Foxconn Interconnect Technology has been operating in Vietnam for over 16 years, but the company is now strategically broadening its global manufacturing map. Expanding in India not only diversifies its supply chain but also positions Foxconn closer to one of Apple’s fastest-growing markets.

Apple’s production footprint in India has already seen remarkable growth. In the first half of FY26, iPhone exports from India surged to $10 billion, a 75% increase from $5.71 billion in the same period last year, highlighting the country’s growing importance in Apple’s worldwide production and export network.

We are hearing that Apple’s upcoming iPad Pro lineup is expected to receive a noteworthy internal upgrade.

According to the latest edition of Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, the iPad Pro will now get vapor chamber cooling. This new thermal system is designed to keep the next-generation iPad Pro models running efficiently while maintaining their slim and fanless design.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared more details, stating, “Given all that, a vapor chamber in the iPad Pro — which is even thinner than the iPad Air — is on the company’s road map. Apple is now working on the feature, with plans to integrate it as soon as the next round of updates. The company is on an 18-month upgrade cycle for the iPad Pro, suggesting that the vapor chamber could be added around spring 2027.”

While this means the upgrade isn’t happening right away since the M5 iPad Pro was only recently launched, users who prioritise thermal performance may want to wait for the 2027 model.

Apple previously redesigned the cooling setup in last year’s M4 iPad Pro, introducing a copper heatsink that dispersed heat through the Apple logo on the rear panel. However, it appears that Apple is now aiming to take things a step further with the M6 iPad Pro by integrating a vapor chamber system to enhance sustained performance and thermal efficiency.

The company first implemented vapor chamber cooling in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. It successfully addressed overheating issues during everyday use, particularly noticeable in gaming scenarios.

Interestingly, even the fan-equipped 14-inch MacBook Pro models powered by the M5 chip have shown signs of potential thermal throttling before reaching their maximum performance levels. This makes Apple’s decision to expand vapor chamber cooling to the iPad Pro line even more significant.

At this stage, there aren’t many other rumours surrounding that iPad Pro release. It is widely expected to debut with Apple’s next-generation 2nm M6 chip, which is anticipated to make its first appearance in Mac devices late next year.

FAQs

Q1. What is vapor chamber cooling, and why is Apple adding it to the iPad Pro?

Answer. Vapor chamber cooling is a thermal management system that efficiently disperses heat across a device’s surface. Apple plans to integrate it into the iPad Pro to enhance sustained performance and prevent overheating—especially important for maintaining the tablet’s slim, fanless design

Q2. When is the vapor chamber cooling expected to arrive in the iPad Pro?

Answer. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is targeting spring 2027 for the vapor chamber upgrade, aligning with its 18-month iPad Pro refresh cycle. It’s likely to debut with the M6 iPad Pro.

Q3. Has Apple used vapor chamber cooling in other devices before?

Answer. Yes, Apple first introduced vapor chamber cooling in the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, where it helped reduce overheating during everyday and gaming use. This success is now influencing its expansion to the iPad Pro lineup.
