As per reports, we still have to wait for a few months before OnePlus Open 2 will be launched. However, multiple leaks have already shared with us a clearer picture of what to expect. The latest leak comes from a trusted source suggesting that the upcoming foldable phone will not only be thinner but also come with better water resistance.

Here’s what we know as per the latest tip.

We have previously reported that the upcoming OnePlus foldable is expected to include a bigger battery and wireless charging. Now according to reliable tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, earlier reports about the device are being confirmed.

image
DCS’s recent Weibo post on the next-generation OnePlus foldable, which will be based on Oppo Find N5.

The newest leaks reveal that the OnePlus Open 2, which will be based on the Oppo Find N5, will feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset inside a foldable body with an IPX8 water resistance rating.

This is a significant improvement over the previous model, which only offered IPX4 water resistance. In fact, many foldables on the market today don’t come close to this level of protection, making water resistance a concern for potential buyers.

The source also shared that the Open 2 will include a 50MP periscope telephoto lens and something described as an ‘anti-fall body structure.’

While details are scarce, this likely means a more durable hinge and an overall sturdier build—something OnePlus and Oppo have been consistently improving with each release.

If the rumours are accurate and the OnePlus Open 2 arrives with a 5,700mAh battery, wireless charging, and the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, it could set a new benchmark for foldable devices.

The previous generation OnePlus Open stood out with its excellent software, multitasking capabilities and user-friendly features.

If OnePlus delivers on these leaks, the second-generation Open could be a game-changer in the foldable market.

Apple TV 4K Rumours Hints At What To Expect From the Next Update

Highlights

  • Apple is working on a new Apple TV model expected to launch next year.
  • It might feature a new in-house networking chip supporting Wi-Fi 6E and possibly a processor upgrade.

Apple last updated its Apple TV in October 2022 with a smaller design, USB-C on the Siri Remote and an upgrade to the A15 chip. Now it has been more than two years and not much is known about what Apple is planning on this front.

Previous reports from Bloomberg suggested a new Apple TV could arrive in early 2024 with a faster chip. After that plan didn’t work out, now fresh rumours indicate that Apple is working on a new model expected to launch sometime next year.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest report wrote, “Apple will begin rolling out the combined Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip as part of new home devices scheduled for next year, including refreshed versions of its TV set-top box and HomePod mini smart speaker.”

One key upgrade could be a new in-house networking chip replacing Broadcom. This chip would support Wi-Fi 6E, making it the first Apple TV with this advanced wireless standard.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also hints at a likely processor upgrade though specific details remain unclear.

Do We Need Apple TV Refresh?

Many tech enthusiasts have often wondered if Apple would update the Apple TV at all since it already has an A15 chip handling most TV needs. 9to5Mac in its recent report highlights three compelling reasons.

Apple lowered the starting price of the Apple TV 4K from $179 to $129 in 2022. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes the next model could go even cheaper, possibly under $100. About two years ago, he wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “The sub-$100 price should be the sweet spot for Apple TV, so I expect the next-gen will be more affordable.”

Another reason could be that the new Apple TV could integrate advanced AI capabilities powered by a potential A18 chip. While Siri on Apple TV might not feel essential, the device could enhance paired HomePods by letting them access more powerful AI features without requiring a hardware upgrade.

Apple has been pushing high-end gaming on the iPhone, iPad and Mac. But the Apple TV has been left behind. A more powerful model could handle advanced games with ray tracing as well.

However, Apple’s plans for gaming on Apple TV are currently unclear.

Moreover, Apple is reportedly revisiting the idea of creating its own Apple-branded TV set. This idea was first rumoured over a decade ago but never came to fruition. Gurman suggests Apple is evaluating it again as part of its broader smart home ambitions.

Hinting about it in his newsletter, Gurman wrote, “It may even revisit the idea of making an Apple-branded TV set, something it’s evaluating.”

However, there is no confirmation about it as of now.

FAQs

Q1. What key features might the new Apple TV model have?

Answer. The new Apple TV model might feature a new in-house networking chip supporting Wi-Fi 6E and possibly a processor upgrade.

Q2. Why is Apple considering updating the Apple TV?

Answer. As per reports, Apple may lower the price below $100, integrate advanced AI capabilities, and enhance gaming performance to make it a stronger contender in the market.

Q3. Is Apple considering creating its own branded TV set?

Answer. Bloomberg report suggests Apple is reportedly considering revisiting the idea of creating its own Apple-branded TV set as part of its broader smart home ambitions.

The constant ‘not reachable’ error with Apple AirTag can be quite annoying but it seems Apple is finally focused on addressing the issue. As per the latest update, Apple’s next-generation tracker might get a major range boost before the rumoured launch next year. Here’s what we know.

In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed that the AirTag 2 could feature a new ultra-wideband (UWB) chip. Gurman also suggests that it will be as powerful as the one in the iPhone 15 saying, “on par with the one introduced in the iPhone 15.”

This upgrade could mean a range up to three times farther than the current AirTag, which operates within a range of 33-98 feet (10-30 meters) for Precision Finding.

If these reports are true then the AirTag 2 would be in a top position to take on competitors like Tile that offer ranges of 100-500 feet (30-152 meters) depending on the model.

Most Bluetooth trackers top out at 200 feet (60 meters).

On average most Bluetooth trackers max out at around 200 feet (60 meters), so the AirTag 2 could be a game-changer in the tracking space.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gurman also hinted at some of the key details of the upcoming AirTag. He posted, “Apple gears up to launch a new AirTag four years after the first model: I’m told the new version will look similar to the current model, but offer better range, bolster the onboard wireless chip and improve privacy.”

The AirTag 2 is expected to launch in mid-2025 (June-July) under the codename B589. Reports suggest it will retain a design similar to its predecessor but will come with upgraded privacy features.

Apple plans to release a second-generation AirTag next year with “considerably” longer range for item tracking, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Since its launch, the original AirTag has faced criticism for being misused in stalking incidents. Apple is reportedly introducing privacy-focused changes in the AirTag 2 to make it “more tamper-proof.”

Apple is also expected to unveil a new smart home display alongside the second-generation AirTag.

FAQs

Q1. What upgrade is expected in the AirTag 2 compared to the original AirTag?

Answer. The AirTag 2 is expected to launch in mid-2025 (June-July) and is under the codename B589.

One of India’s leading electronics manufacturers Dixon Technologies and Chinese smartphone giant Vivo have announced a joint venture to manufacture smartphones. Both companies will together manufacture phones for Vivo and potentially other brands as well. As per a recent statement filed by Dixon, the company will hold a majority 51% stake in the venture with Vivo India owning the remaining 49%.

As per media reports, while Dixon and Vivo will collaborate closely, neither company will hold any stake in the other. The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

As of now, the deal is subject to regulatory approvals and finalising detailed agreements.

This announcement comes amid the Indian government’s consistent push for Chinese companies to establish local joint ventures involving Indian partners while appointing Indian executives in leadership positions.

The joint venture aligns with India’s Make in India initiative helping Vivo in expanding its manufacturing operations for the local market.

Expressing optimism about the collaboration, Dixon’s Vice Chairman and Managing Director Atul B. Lall said,  “We believe that this association will bolster our manufacturing excellence and superior execution abilities and Vivo’s leadership in the Indian business ecosystem. We are excited to work together to create a stronger, more diversified, and future-proof organization.”

Lall highlighted that the partnership would further solidify Dixon’s position in India’s Android smartphone ecosystem. Dixon already manufactures smartphones for leading brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Motorola, Transsion, Google and Nothing.

Meanwhile, the CEO of Vivo India Jerome Chen also noted, “The proposed joint venture will undertake part of Vivo’s OEM orders of smartphones in India and can also engage in OEM business of various electronic products of other brands. This partnership will effectively complement the current manufacturing operations of Vivo India.”

Vivo, which recently marked a decade of operations in India, has invested Rs 3,000 crore in a new 170-acre manufacturing facility in Greater Noida. This state-of-the-art plant can produce up to 120 million smartphones annually replacing its previous facility with a 40 million unit capacity. The old unit is now operated by Bhagwati Products (Micromax).

This collaboration marks Dixon’s second partnership with a Chinese smartphone brand in 2024. Earlier, it acquired a 50.10% stake in Ismartu India, the manufacturing unit of Transsion Holdings for Rs 238.36 crore.

Vivo was reportedly in discussions with other Indian companies including the Tata Group for a similar venture. However, all those talks reportedly fell apart over valuation disagreements earlier this year.

Pixel 10 to Use MediaTek Modem for Better Battery Life and Heat Management

0

Highlights

  • The new T900 modem is based on MediaTek’s M85 generation.

Google is reportedly making a major change to its Pixel lineup by using a MediaTek modem in the upcoming Pixel 10. This move is aimed at improving issues with heat and battery performance, areas where Google’s previous modems have faced criticism.

According to Android Authority, Google considered using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 modem for the Pixel 10 but ultimately chose MediaTek’s unreleased T900 modem instead.

The T900 is based on MediaTek’s “M85” generation and will support the upcoming 3GPP Release 17 5G specification.

While its performance details are not yet available, Google’s decision suggests confidence in the T900’s capabilities.

image
Google is reportedly testing yet-to-be-released MediaTek T900 modem in its Pixel 10 prototypes. (Image credit – MediaTek)

The Android Authority report notes, “We know basically nothing about this new modem, except that it’s based on MediaTek’s M85 generation modem IP. For reference, M70 supported 3GPP Release 15 5G specification and M80 upgraded to Release 16, so it’s safe to assume M85 will support Release 17 or even newer.”

The first Google Tensor-powered Pixel 6 used a Samsung modem that struggled with overheating and poor signal reception.

Although Tensor G2 (Pixel 7), Tensor G3 (Pixel 8), and Tensor G4 (Pixel 9) showed improvements, Google’s modem performance still lagged behind competitors.

Internal documents revealed that overheating problems were the biggest reason users returned their Pixel phones.

While these issues have become less noticeable to the average user over time, Google seems determined to address them head-on with the Pixel 10.

Google is reportedly prioritising battery efficiency with this switch, as recent documents highlight its importance for the Pixel series.

Google’s Pixel 10: The Modem Switch to MediaTek

Speculating on the T900 modem’s capabilities, the Android Authority report specifies, “We can’t really know how good the T900 will be, but I would cautiously assume that it will be at least okay. After all, Google is well aware that thermals and battery life are some of the largest issues with Tensor-based Pixels, in large part due to their modems, and I doubt they’d let the disaster that was the Pixel 6 happen again.”

While MediaTek’s modem might not match the performance of Qualcomm’s, the cost may have also played a role in Google’s decision to move away from both Qualcomm and Samsung modems.

FAQS

Q1. What modem will the Pixel 10 use?

Answer. The Pixel 10 will use MediaTek’s unreleased T900 modem, aimed at improving heat management and battery performance.

Q2. Why did Google choose MediaTek’s T900 modem for the Pixel 10?

Answer. Google chose MediaTek’s T900 modem to address issues with heat and battery performance faced by previous Pixel models using other modems.

Q3. What are the expected benefits of using the T900 modem in the Pixel 10?

Answer. The T900 modem is expected to provide better battery life and heat management, addressing major issues faced by previous Pixel models.

It’s raining updates on Apple foldable devices. First, it was the recent WSJ report revealing some hints about the foldable iPhones and laptops. Now, a recent Bloomberg report suggests we might just also get a foldable iPad as soon as 2028. Here’s what we know from the recent report.

Apple Foldable iPad To Be The Company’s First Foldable Device?

According to Bloomberg’s trusted Apple reporter Mark Gurman, Apple is reportedly preparing to launch its first foldable device in 2028. Gurman describes it as “something akin to a giant iPad that unfolds into the size of two iPad Pros side-by-side.”

The foldable iPad is rumoured to have a massive display of around 20 inches when unfolded and now Gurman highlights that it will be a “single, uninterrupted piece of glass.” Apple is aiming to perfect the design by minimising if not eliminating the crease often seen in foldable displays.

In his latest power-on newsletter, Gurman writes, “Prototypes of this new product within Apple’s industrial design group have a nearly invisible crease. But it’s too early to tell if Apple will get rid of it altogether. Samsung Electronics Co., which launched its first foldable phone five years ago, has tried unsuccessfully to remove the crease.”

Apple is clearly focused on creating a device with a big screen that’s portable enough to fit in a backpack, rather than a smaller foldable tablet designed to fit in your pocket.

The foldable iPad is expected to run a version of iPadOS but may also include support for macOS apps. Gurman suggests, “I don’t believe it will be a true iPad-Mac hybrid, but the device will have elements of both. By the time 2028 rolls around, iPadOS should be advanced enough to run macOS apps.

While it’s not yet clear whether this is speculation or insider information, the idea of macOS app support on iPads is a significant development that could expand the device’s functionality.

As for foldable iPhones, it has now been confirmed by both Bloomberg’s Gurman and a recent Wall Street Journal report that the earliest we might see one is 2026.

A recent report has shed some light on Apple’s big release plans for iPhones in the next two years. It appears Apple is working on two foldable devices slated for 2026 along with a slimmer and more affordable iPhone 17 Air model. Here’s a quick roundup of the recent report.

iPhone 17 Air – Slimmer and Cheaper

A Wall Street Journal report described the iPhone 17 Air as part of Apple’s “bid to revive growth” following years of minor updates.  The report noted, “Starting next year, Apple plans to introduce an iPhone that will be thinner than the approximately 8-millimeter profile of current models, said people familiar with the company’s plans. The model is intended to be cheaper than Pro models, with a simplified camera system to reduce costs.”

Contrary to earlier speculation that it would be Apple’s most expensive iPhone, the iPhone 17 Air is now expected to be priced below the Pro lineup. Since the iPhone 16 Pro starts at $999, the iPhone 17 Air could be priced similarly to the iPhone 16 Plus, which starts at around $900.

Apple Foldables in 2026

The WSJ report also shares some key details on Apple’s progress with two foldable devices.

The foldable iPhone is expected to have a display larger than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which currently features a 6.9-inch screen. The foldable iPhone’s unfolded display could exceed 7 inches. Apple initially experimented with outward-facing foldable screens but now favours an inward-folding design, similar to existing foldable phones.

Moreover, it is also being speculated that a larger foldable laptop with a 19-inch display when unfolded is also in the works. This foldable is aimed at functioning as a laptop replacement.

Although the larger foldable was initially expected to launch first, Apple has shifted its focus to foldable iPhone for now. Development has faced delays due to challenges with the hinge and display cover, but Apple executives are pushing for a 2026 launch.
