Apple is one of the few major smartphone brands yet to launch a foldable device, but rumours about a foldable iPhone or iPad have been circulating for a while. Now, a new leak from China has revealed some details about the display size and design of Apple’s first foldable device. Here’s what we are hearing.

Apple Foldable iPhone

The latest update comes from well-known tipster Digital Chat Station, who shared the information on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo. According to the leak, Apple’s foldable device could feature a 5.49-inch external display and a 7.74-inch main folding screen.

While exact specs are still unknown, the tipster suggests that Apple is working on improving the foldable design significantly.

Since most foldable phones with a notebook-style design have a squarish inner screen, Apple might be creating a true iPhone-iPad hybrid, blending the experience of a smartphone and a tablet.

The leak also compares Apple’s design to the Oppo Find N while stating that Apple’s foldable will be shorter and thicker than Oppo’s device.

This is not the first time we heard about an Apple future foldable device. Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that Apple is developing a 20.3-inch foldable MacBook, aiming for a release around 2027. Similarly, Ross Young mentioned Apple’s work on a 20-inch foldable hybrid device, expected to launch in 2026 or 2027.

Moreover, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman stated that Apple is “exploring a dual-screen, foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid.”

Unfortunately, Apple’s foldable iPhone is still a while away. Previous reports suggest a possible 2026 launch. So far, it’s rumoured that Apple’s first foldable will be a Fold-style device rather than a Flip and it could feature a Samsung display.

iPhone 16e VS iPhone 16 – Key Differences and Features Compared

0

Highlights

  • The iPhone 16e has a 6.1-inch OLED display with a traditional notch, while the iPhone 16 features Dynamic Island.
  • Both have an IP68 rating and Ceramic Shield but the iPhone 16 uses a newer version.
  • Both models use the A18 chip but the iPhone 16e has a 4-core GPU, while the iPhone 16 has a 5-core GPU.
  • The iPhone 16e offers longer battery life with Apple’s C1 5G modem but lacks MagSafe support.
  • The iPhone 16 supports 15W Qi2 wireless and 25W MagSafe charging, while the iPhone 16e is limited to 7.5W Qi wireless charging.
image

Apple has officially introduced the iPhone 16e replacing the iPhone SE (3rd Gen), which is now discontinued. While the iPhone 16e shares many features with the iPhone 16, it comes at a lower price. ₹20,000 less, to be exact!

But does the price cut mean major compromises? Let’s break down the key differences.

iPhone 16e VS iPhone 16 – Design & Display

The iPhone 16e features a 6.1-inch OLED display, a big upgrade from the 4.7-inch LCD on the previous SE model. It shares a similar size with the iPhone 16, but there are some differences –

  • The iPhone 16e has a traditional notch, while the iPhone 16 gets the more advanced Dynamic Island.
  • Both phones have Ceramic Shield for durability, but the iPhone 16 uses a newer version.
  • Water and dust resistance are the same with an IP68 rating.
  • Colour options differ – the iPhone 16e comes in White and Black, while the iPhone 16 offers Ultramarine, Teal and Pink.

This marks the end of Touch ID on iPhones as the iPhone 16e fully adopts Face ID.

iPhone 16e VS iPhone 16 – Performance & Chipset

Both models are powered by Apple’s latest A18 chip, making them significantly faster than previous budget iPhones. This chip enables –

  • Apple Intelligence features include notification summaries and Genmoji.
  • A 6-core CPU and a 16-core Neural Engine for better AI and performance.

The only difference? The iPhone 16e has a 4-core GPU, while the iPhone 16 gets a slightly more powerful 5-core GPU. For everyday use, most users won’t notice a difference.

iPhone 16e VS iPhone 16 – Camera

Both models feature a 48MP main camera, but the iPhone 16 has an extra 12MP ultra-wide lens.

  • The iPhone 16e still offers 2x “optical-quality” zoom but lacks ultra-wide shots.
  • The iPhone 16 has better portrait mode features, macro photography, and a dedicated camera control button.
  • Optical image stabilisation differs as the iPhone 16 has sensor-shift stabilisation, while the 16e has standard OIS.
  • Both have a 12MP front camera with autofocus for sharp selfies and Face ID.

If you love wide-angle shots or advanced photography features, the iPhone 16 is the better choice.

iPhone 16e VS iPhone 16 – Battery Life

Surprisingly, the iPhone 16e offers better battery life than the iPhone 16, thanks to Apple’s new C1 5G modem.

  • The iPhone 16e lasts up to 26 hours of video playback, 4 hours longer than the iPhone 16.
  • Apple’s first in-house 5G modem (C1) is more power-efficient than previous Qualcomm modems.
  • iOS 18’s power management further boosts battery life.

For those who prioritise battery life, the iPhone 16e is the clear winner.

iPhone 16e VS iPhone 16 – MagSafe & Charging

One noticeable omission in the iPhone 16e is MagSafe support.

  • The iPhone 16 supports 15W Qi2 wireless charging and 25W MagSafe charging.
  • The iPhone 16e is limited to standard 7.5W Qi wireless charging.
  • Both have USB-C—Apple has officially moved on from Lightning.

If MagSafe accessories are important to you, the iPhone 16 is the better pick.

iPhone 16e vs. iPhone 16: Which One Should You Buy?

After going through the key features, we believe you can choose the iPhone 16e at ₹59,900 if you want a modern iPhone at a lower price with great battery life, the latest A18 chip and a solid 48MP camera. On the other hand, you can consider the iPhone 16 at ₹79,900 if you want Dynamic Island, an ultra-wide camera, MagSafe charging and slightly better GPU performance.

If you’re looking for value and battery life, the iPhone 16e is an excellent choice. But if you want extra features and don’t mind paying more, the iPhone 16 is worth it.

FAQs

Q1. What are the design and display differences between the iPhone 16e and iPhone 16?

WhatsApp Faces Stricter EU Rules For Getting Very Large Online Platform Status, Needs To Tackle Illegal Content On The Platform

0

Highlights

  • WhatsApp is now classified as a Very Large Online Platform (VLOP) in the EU.
  • It surpassed the 45 million user threshold set by the Digital Services Act (DSA) and now faces stricter rules.

WhatsApp is now facing tougher regulations in Europe after surpassing a key user threshold under the Digital Services Act (DSA).

The messaging platform owned by Meta must now take greater responsibility for tackling illegal and harmful content, which is a challenge other tech companies like Apple, Google and Microsoft have already been dealing with in the EU.

WhatsApp Now a ‘Very Large Online Platform’ in the EU

In a February 14 filing, WhatsApp reported having an average of 46.8 million monthly active users in the EU over the past six months. This exceeds the 45 million user threshold set by the DSA, officially classifying WhatsApp as a Very Large Online Platform (VLOP).

Confirming this, European Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier stated, “WhatsApp has published user numbers above the threshold for designation as a Very Large Online Platform under the Digital Services Act.”

With this classification, WhatsApp now has four months to comply with stricter DSA rules.

As a VLOP, WhatsApp is required to identify and assess risks related to illegal content, protect fundamental rights, public security and minors and also improve transparency in handling harmful content. If it fails to meet these requirements, Meta could face fines of up to 6% of its global annual revenue.

Meta’s Warning to the EU

Meta’s Facebook and Instagram are already under the same EU rules, and the company is pushing back. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Global Policy Director Joel Kaplan have criticised EU tech regulations, even seeking U.S. President Donald Trump’s intervention.

At the Munich Security Conference, Kaplan made it clear that Meta will follow EU laws but if the EU unfairly targets Meta, they won’t hesitate to escalate the issue to the U.S. government

This signals growing tensions between American tech companies and European regulators.

Meta has already been hit with over €2 billion in EU fines for violating antitrust and data protection rules. The company is also under investigation for potential breaches of the DSA, specifically concerning child protection.

Meanwhile, it turns out WhatsApp isn’t the only company affected by the DSA. Earlier this week, Apple removed hundreds of apps from the EU App Store that failed to meet new trader verification requirements. These apps will remain blocked until they comply.

FAQs

Q1. Why is WhatsApp now classified as a Very Large Online Platform (VLOP) in the EU?

Answer. WhatsApp reported having an average of 46.8 million monthly active users in the EU over the past six months, surpassing the 45 million user threshold set by the Digital Services Act (DSA).

Q2. What new regulations must WhatsApp comply with as a VLOP in the EU?

Answer. WhatsApp must identify and assess risks related to illegal content, protect fundamental rights, public security and minors and improve transparency in handling harmful content.

Q3. What are the consequences for Meta if WhatsApp fails to comply with the new DSA rules?

Answer. Meta could face fines of up to 6% of its global annual revenue if WhatsApp fails to meet the DSA requirements.

Instagram is rolling out a new way for creators to earn money by recommending products in the comments section of brand posts.

Meta announced this update recently as part of its Partnership Ads program, introducing a feature called Testimonials. This feature allows creators to write paid endorsements in the form of short comments on brand posts and ads including Feed posts and Reels.

Brands already pay commenters or incentivise customers to leave positive reviews. However, for shoppers, it’s often hard to tell whether a comment comes from a genuine customer or a paid promoter.

Creators can now self-identify as paid partners with Testimonials. This makes the endorsement more transparent while also making creators accountable for the products they promote.

Since they are putting their names behind these products, they risk losing followers’ trust if they promote something that isn’t good.

Testimonials are short messages (under 125 characters) that creators submit to brands, which are then attached to relevant ads. Meta informed TechCrunch that the brands can partner with any eligible creator and all deals including pricing are negotiated directly between them. Payment happens outside of Meta’s platform.

Meta also explains the feature in a blog post, “Testimonials are text-only endorsements, which means that they’re fast to make and easy to stack on top of existing brand deals.[….] Write a short message (under 125 characters) that ties back to the brand campaign or a specific product. Send your written endorsement to the brand and they’ll make sure that it ends up on the correct ad.”

According to Meta, 40% of people on Instagram rely on creator recommendations when shopping.

These paid testimonials will be pinned to the top of the comments section once posted and the platform will ensure they stand out and get more visibility.

Creators can also track their testimonials under their Creator Settings, monitor how their comments are being used and even pull them if needed.

Apple just unveiled its C1 modem with the iPhone 16e but it appears that’s not the only new Apple-designed we will get to see this year. According to a new report, the iPhone 17 lineup will debut another in-house chip, this time for Wi-Fi connectivity. Here’s what we know so far.

Apple’s Wi-Fi Chip to Replace Broadcom in iPhone 17 Series

Apple has been working on some major connectivity projects. One is the in-house 5G modems, which include the newly launched C1 chip and future C-series successors. The other connectivity project involves Wi-Fi chips, which is an in-house solution aimed at replacing third-party suppliers.

Popular supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently shed some light on Apple’s in-house connectivity projects on X (formerly Twitter). Kuo writes. “Following Qualcomm, Broadcom’s Wi-Fi chips will also be replaced by Apple’s in-house chips at a faster pace. My latest industry survey indicates that all new 2H25 iPhone 17 models will feature Apple’s in-house Wi-Fi chips (vs. only the slim iPhone 17 will adopt Apple’s C1 modem chip). Beyond cost reduction, the switch to in-house Wi-Fi chips will enhance connectivity across Apple devices.”

Previous reports suggested that Apple’s custom Wi-Fi chip would be introduced in some iPhone 17 models, but the latest update suggests that it will now be used across the entire iPhone 17 lineup including the iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. With this move, Apple will phase out Broadcom’s Wi-Fi chips in its 2025 iPhones.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple’s new Wi-Fi chip will “enhance connectivity across Apple devices.” While details are still vague, this could mean better battery life similar to the C1 modem’s efficiency improvements and reliable Wi-Fi connections.

Launching its first-ever modem, Apple writes, “Expanding the benefits of Apple silicon, C1 is the first modem designed by Apple and the most power-efficient modem ever on an iPhone, delivering fast and reliable 5G cellular connectivity. Apple silicon — including C1 — the all-new internal design, and the advanced power management of iOS 18 all contribute to extraordinary battery life.”

Some reports indicate that we can expect even deeper optimisations in future Apple devices since Apple is now controlling both 5G and Wi-Fi chips.
