The streaming platform JioHotstar under the Reliance-Disney joint venture (JioStar) has teamed up with market research giant Nielsen to track and analyse digital viewership of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This is a major move as it’s the first time a third-party agency will provide independent digital audience data for IPL, similar to how the Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) tracks television viewership.

The President (Commercial) of Asia at Nielsen Arnaud Frade said, “With over 100 years of expertise in audience measurement, Nielsen is committed to supporting the evolving needs of advertisers with data-driven insights.”

The collaboration will begin with the 2025 IPL season and will later expand to other digital properties on JioHotstar. This initiative is expected to continue for a long period since JioStar holds IPL media rights until 2027.

Advertisers until now had to rely on either OTT platform-provided data or their own internal analysis for digital viewership metrics. This partnership aims to fill the gap and offer advertisers transparent and also third-party verified insights into IPL’s digital audience.

To track and analyse viewership, Nielsen will use tools like Nielsen ONE Ads (its Digital Ad Ratings (DAR) system) and newly developed volumetric and reach analysis. Advertisers will be able to access data through the Nielsen One dashboard, which will provide insights into:

  • Impressions
  • Clicks
  • Campaign reach
  • On-target reach

“This partnership will redefine how advertising on digital/OTT is measured and delivered across India’s most iconic entertainment and sports properties,” said Ishan Chatterjee, Chief Business Officer of Sports Revenue SMB & Creator JioStar.

Ahead of IPL 2025, JioStar merged its two streaming platforms Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema into one, JioHotstar. Existing subscribers of both platforms can now seamlessly transition with new affordable tariff plans being introduced to boost viewership.

IPL is one of the biggest sports and entertainment events in India. In 2024, IPL’s TV broadcast on Star Sports reached over 550 million viewers, while its digital reach on JioCinema was estimated to be 550–600 million.

iPhone SE 4 Launching Soon, Likely With 64GB Storage In Base Variant

0

Highlights

  • Apple is launching the iPhone SE 4 next week with a base model priced at $499.
  • A new leak suggests the phone will have a 64GB storage option, similar to the 2022 model.
  • Leaked features – a 6.06-inch LTPS OLED display, removal of the physical Touch ID button and the Apple A18 chipset.
  • Expected features – USB-C charging and single 48MP rear sensor.

Apple is gearing up to launch the fourth-generation iPhone SE next week, likely called the iPhone SE 4 or iPhone SE (2025). The base model is expected to be priced at $499 to be the most affordable iPhone. However, to achieve that price point, Apple seems to have made some compromises.

A leaked listing from a Chinese retailer reveals key specifications including a base storage option of just 64GB. This leak quickly went viral raising concerns amongst Apple fans about whether that’s enough in 2025. Here’s what we know.

Upcoming iPhone SE – Recent Leak

image
Upcoming iPhone SE in Chinese listing page. (Image credit – Gizchina)

A Chinese retailer’s listing has given us a first look at what to expect. The most surprising detail is the base storage as Apple is reportedly sticking with just 64GB, the same as the 2022 model. The 64GB storage was considered limiting even in 2022 and now in 2025, it seems even more outdated.

Moreover, we all know that the actual usable storage will be much lower. Apple states that iOS 18 and system apps take up nearly 17GB, while Apple Intelligence features require another 7 GB. That means users will be left with roughly 40GB for apps, photos and other data.

If Apple maintains the same pricing strategy as before, the 128GB variant could cost $599, while the 256GB model might go up to $699.

Another big change is the removal of the physical Touch ID button, making way for a full-screen design. This marks the first time an entry-level iPhone will ditch the traditional home button.

The leaked listing also suggests that the iPhone SE 4 will feature a 6.06-inch LTPS OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate. That’s a major jump from the 4.7-inch IPS LCD screen on the iPhone SE (2022).

Upcoming iPhone SE – Expected Specs

Previous leaks suggest the iPhone SE 4 will be powered by the Apple A18 chipset, the same processor expected in the iPhone 16. This would give it a significant performance boost over its predecessor.

Apple is also expected to switch to USB-C charging, finally retiring the Lightning port. This change was inevitable, especially with the EU’s USB-C mandate now in effect.

As for cameras, the phone may feature a single 48MP rear sensor, which is a big leap from the previous 12MP camera.

The official confirmation will come on February 19, so we’ll have to wait and see if Apple sticks with this storage limitation or introduces better options.

Answer. The base storage option for the iPhone SE 4 is expected to be 64GB, the same as the 2022 model.

Q3. What are some of the key upgrades in the iPhone SE 4 compared to its predecessor?

Apple Might Bring Ads to Apple Maps and Refresh Studio Display by 2026, Gurman Reports

0

Highlights

  • Apple is considering adding search ads to its Maps app similar to those in its News and Stocks apps.
  • Apple is working on an updated version of its Studio Display that is expected to arrive by 2026.
  • This new display will likely use mini-LED technology and serve as a companion to the upcoming M5 MacBook Pros.
  • The Pro Display XDR is less of a priority for Apple and a second-generation version is not expected soon.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is no stranger to anyone who keeps up with Apple news. The man has been a trusted source of Apple news and updates for years now. Like a tradition, his recent Power On newsletter again sheds light on some of the key aspects of Apple’s future plans. Here’s a quick look at some of the updates Gurman recently shared.

Apple Considering Search Ads in Maps

image

Apple is once again looking into adding search ads to its Apple Maps app, according to Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter. The company already runs similar ads in its News and Stocks apps, and this move could help grow Apple’s advertising business.

This isn’t the first time Apple has explored the idea. A couple of years ago, the company considered letting businesses pay for better search rankings in Maps and now, the discussion is back. Gurman writes, “A few years ago, Apple employees explored integrating search ads into its Maps apps. It would work similarly to Google Maps, where a business could pay Apple to have their restaurant or venue appear higher in search results.”

In a recent internal meeting, Apple reportedly revisited the idea of monetising Maps, specifically through search ads. Gurman also suggests that certain locations could be highlighted more prominently on the map.

There’s no timeline for when or if this monetising will happen. Apple hasn’t started engineering work on it yet, but the company is clearly thinking about how to make it a reality.

New Studio Display Expected by 2026

image
(Photo by Clay Banks on Unsplash)

Gurman further reveals that Apple is also working on a refresh for its Studio Display, which first launched in 2022. The updated version will likely arrive by 2026 and could serve as a companion to the upcoming M5 MacBook Pros.

Last week, display supply chain expert Ross Young reported that Apple is developing a new Studio Display with mini-LED technology.

Gurman’s report backs this claim but doesn’t reveal many details about the upgrades. Gurman reports, “I’m told that Apple is currently testing prototypes of a display — code-named J427 — that should arrive by 2026. It will be a successor to the current Studio Display, rather than the Pro Display XDR, and features a design that’s similar to the 2022 model.”

Interestingly, Gurman also sheds light on Apple’s higher-end Pro Display XDR. Despite launching in 2019, Apple has largely ignored it, leaving it without key features like a webcam, built-in speakers, or an affordable stand, features that the cheaper Studio Display offers.

However, it doesn’t look like a second-generation Pro Display XDR is on Apple’s radar. Gurman reports that a new version is “less of a priority for Apple.” That said, Apple is still focused on the pro market, with new Mac Pro and Mac Studio models reportedly in the works.

FAQs

Q1. Is Apple planning to add ads to its Maps app?

Answer. Yes, Apple is considering adding search ads to its Maps app to help grow its advertising business. This idea was previously explored a few years ago and is being revisited.

Q2. When is the new version of Apple’s Studio Display expected to be released?

Answer. The updated version of Apple’s Studio Display is expected to arrive by 2026 and will likely use mini-LED technology.

Q3. Will there be a new version of the Apple Pro Display XDR?

Answer. A second-generation Pro Display XDR is not expected soon and is less of a priority for Apple. However, Apple remains focused on the pro market with new Mac Pro and Mac Studio models in development.

Q4. What kind of ads might Apple introduce in its Maps app?

Answer, Apple is considering search ads in its Maps app, where businesses could pay to appear higher in search results, similar to how ads work in Google Maps.

Google is giving users more ways to personalise contact photos in Google Contacts. You can now assign monograms or emojis to contact profile pictures, adding a bit of fun and customisation to your address book. Here’s what we know.

With the latest update to Google Contacts (version 4.48.27.720364420), users can now do the following –

  • Assign a monogram (one or two letter initials) with customisable fonts and background colours.
  • Set an emoji as a contact photo, choosing from a wide range of options.
  • Use the Inspire Me button that automatically generates different font, emoji and background colour combinations.
  • Enable a monochrome mode for a more minimalist look.

These customisations aren’t limited to Google Contacts as they’ll also appear in Google Messages when interacting with that contact.

The feature was first spotted by Android Authority, and while it’s live for some users, not everyone on the latest build has access yet. Google is likely rolling it out in phases.

In the report, Android Authority Editor Hadlee Simons wrote, “Android Authority contributor AssembleDebug spotted the option to set emojis or monograms as contact pictures in the Google Contacts app (version 4.48.27.720364420). I’m not seeing this on my own phone just yet, so this might be a gradual release at first.”

Previously in 2024, Google automatically replaced user-selected contact photos in Google Messages with the contact’s Google account avatar. However, this move wasn’t welcomed by many users. Later in January 2025, Google finally let users switch back to their original contact photos before introducing the current update offering new customisation options.

FAQs

Q1. What new customisation options does Google Contacts offer?

Answer. Users can now assign monograms with customizable fonts and background colours, set emojis as contact photos, and use the ‘Inspire Me’ button for automatic combinations. There is also a monochrome mode for a minimalist look.

Q2. Will these customisations in Google Contacts appear elsewhere?

Answer. Yes, these customisations will also appear in Google Messages when interacting with that contact.

Q3. Is the new feature available to all users?

Answer. The feature is currently live for some users, but not everyone on the latest build has access yet as Google is likely rolling it out in phases.

It appears we are not down with the dislike buttons even after several platforms tried and failed to implement it successfully. Instagram is now experimenting with a new dislike button, although the catch is that it’s not for posts or Reels but it’s just for the comments.

The platform says this feature will help users downvote irrelevant or distasteful comments, making conversations more positive.

How Dislike Button for Instagram Comments Will Work?

The dislike button is currently being tested on both Feed posts and Reels. However, Instagram won’t show dislike counts publicly. Instead, as Instagram head Adam Mosseri explained on Threads, dislikes will help rank comments, similar to Reddit’s downvote system.

“This gives people a private way to signal that they don’t feel good about that particular comment. […] Our hope is that this might help make comments more friendly on Instagram,” Mosseri wrote.

A Meta spokesperson echoed this telling TechCrunch that the main goal of the feature is to improve comment quality. As of now, it’s just a small test available to a limited group of users, but Instagram could expand it in the future.

“We’re working on ways to help people better control their Instagram experience and what they’re seeing on the app,” a company spokesperson said. “We’re testing a new button next to each comment on a Reel or Feed post for people to privately signal they don’t feel good about that particular comment or find it relevant. We’re testing this with a very small group of people to start. Later, we may also test moving these comments lower down in the comments section to help create a better experience,” they added.

Instagram has been making a lot of updates lately as the platform is working on a video-editing app that looks very similar to TikTok’s editing tool CapCut. It also extended Reels to three minutes, another move that seems inspired by TikTok.

In another big change, Instagram recently removed third-party fact-checkers, though the company didn’t provide a clear reason beyond citing concerns about freedom.
