iPhone 17 Pro’s New Camera Bar Design Could Offer a Cool Customisation, A Quick Recap Of iPhone 17 Pro Series Rumours So Far

0

Highlights

  • The iPhone 17 Pro introduces a horizontal camera bar with accessory makers creating camera bar covers to personalise it.
  • Expected features include a durable aluminium frame, anti-reflective screen coating, 24MP front camera, 48MP telephoto lens, 8K video recording and Wi-Fi 7 chip.
  • It is also expected to feature A19 Pro chip, improved battery life, 12GB RAM and advanced cooling systems.

If you follow iPhone’s rumour mill, it should be old news that the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro will have a totally new look with a horizontal camera bar. While some online comments have already expressed disappointment about how it looks, there might be a clever customisation benefit to it. Here’s what we know.

iPhone 17 Pro’s New Camera Bar Is Customisable?

According to leaker Majin Bu on X (formerly Twitter), some accessory makers are already working on camera covers with fun, custom designs made specifically to cover the iPhone 17 Pro’s longer camera bar. These go beyond the usual “camera lens protectors” we’ve seen before and they still protect the lens, but add a stylish twist.

Since most iPhone 17 Pro cases are expected to leave the camera bar fully visible, these add-on covers could be the perfect combo of protection and personal flair.

The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are set to launch in September, but we already have a bunch of rumoured upgrades to get excited about. Here’s a quick breakdown of what we might see:

  • A shift from titanium (iPhone 15/16 Pro) and stainless steel (iPhone X to 14 Pro) to a new aluminium frame. The back will reportedly be a mix of glass and aluminium.
  • Expect a large rectangular bump with rounded corners, while the camera lenses will stay in the familiar triangular layout.
  • A new anti-reflective coating is said to make the screen more scratch-resistant than ever.
  • A19 Pro chip – This next-gen chip is made with TSMC’s third-gen 3nm tech and should offer better performance and battery life.
  • Both Pro models are expected to come with 12GB of RAM, up from 8GB in the iPhone 16 series, for smoother multitasking and better performance with Apple Intelligence features.
  • Rumours point to better internal cooling, possibly with a vapour chamber system in the Pro models to keep things cool under heavy use.
  • The iPhone 17 Pro Max might be a little thicker to fit a larger battery.
  • All iPhone 17 models are expected to include a new Wi-Fi 7 chip designed by Apple, replacing the Broadcom one.
  • 24MP front camera – A major upgrade from the iPhone 16’s 12MP, giving all iPhone 17 models a 24-megapixel front-facing camera.
  • 48MP Telephoto camera – A boost from 12MP to 48MP on the rear Telephoto lens for Pro models.
  • While it didn’t happen with iPhone 16, 8K video recording might finally arrive with the iPhone 17 Pro’s upgraded cameras.

WhatsApp Tests New Message Translation Feature With Offline Support On Android Beta

whatsapp

Highlights

  • WhatsApp’s latest beta enables on-device message translation using downloadable language packs.
  • Users can turn on automatic translations for all chats or translate individual messages manually.
  • Translations occur locally on the device to safeguard user privacy by eliminating server-based processing.

image

WhatsApp is testing a handy new feature for automatic message translation in its latest Android beta version. This new tool aims to make chatting across languages smoother and more private. Here’s what we know so far.

WhatsApp’s New Message Translation Feature

According to a recent WABetaInfo report, the feature has been spotted in WhatsApp beta version 2.25.12.25. It adds a ‘Translate Messages’ toggle in chat settings and it allows automatic on-device translation of messages in individual WhatsApp Chats and Channels once enabled.

Since WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption (E2EE), translations happen locally on your phone and not on WhatsApp’s servers keeping your conversations private.

image

To use the translation feature, WhatsApp will prompt users to select and download language packs directly on their phone. Supported languages for now include Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese (Brazil), Hindi and Russian. Since the translations work offline, there’s no need for an internet connection once the language pack is downloaded.

Users can also choose how they want to use the feature. You can turn on automatic translations for all chats, or keep it off and translate individual messages by tapping a “Translate” option when needed. The feature is off by default and you can manage language packs or disable it entirely from the app’s settings.

WABetaInfo writes, “The translation feature is accessible from the chat info screen, where users can specify which language they want messages to be automatically translated from on a per-chat basis. This flexibility ensures that different chats can have different translation settings based on user needs. Alternatively, users can choose not to enable automatic translation and instead translate individual messages manually by opening the message options and tapping “Translate”.”

Further, feature tracker WABetaInfo notes that WhatsApp has been working on this feature since July 2024 and it’s now slowly rolling out to beta testers. There’s no word yet on a full public release, but this could be a game-changer for cross-language communication.

Recently, WhatsApp has also rolled out on-device voice note transcription to transcribe incoming audio messages.

FAQs

Q1. How does WhatsApp’s new translation feature work?

Answer. The feature enables automatic message translation using downloadable language packs. Translations occur locally on the device, ensuring privacy and offline functionality.

Q2. Can users customise how translations are applied?

Answer. Yes, users can turn on automatic translations for all chats or opt to translate individual messages manually by selecting the “Translate” option in message settings.

Q3. Which languages are supported by WhatsApp’s new translation feature?

Answer. The currently supported languages include Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese (Brazil), Hindi, and Russian with more languages likely to be added in the future.

OnePlus Pad 2 Pro Second Variant Shows Up on Geekbench, Hints at Global Launch

0

Highlights

  • Two variants OnePlus Pad 2 Pro with model numbers OPD2409 and OPD2413 appeared on Geekbench.
  • FCC certifications and Geekbench listings suggest a possible global release alongside a Chinese-specific model with hardware similarities noted.
  • Expected Features – 13.2-inch 3.4K display, 144Hz refresh rate, 12,140mAh battery and 67W fast charging.

image

OnePlus seems to be working on a powerful new tablet, which is most likely called the OnePlus Pad 2 Pro. The tablet recently popped up on Geekbench, showing off some impressive performance numbers. However, what makes this interesting is that this is the second variant of the same device to appear in the benchmark listing. Here’s what we know.

OnePlus Pad 2 Pro On Geekbench

A version of what most likely is the OnePlus Pad 2 Pro with the model number OPD2409 was tested on Geekbench 6.3.0 last month. It scored 2633 in the single-core test and 7779 in the multi-core test.

image

Caption – Vivo tablet with model number OPD2413 appears on Geekbench. (Image credit – Gizmochina)

But now a newer version with model number OPD2413 have been spotted on the listing on April 18 and did even better performance-wise. It scored 3091 single-core and 9638 multi-core.

Both of these models come with 16GB of RAM, run on Android 15 and are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a flagship processor with 8 cores, clocked up to 4.32GHz. These are paired with an Adreno 830 GPU. These scores put the Pad 2 Pro in the same league as top-tier smartphones when it comes to raw power. It’s clearly built for heavy multitasking and long-term use.

Meanwhile, another device with model number OPD2408 has shown up in FCC certifications, hinting at a possible global version of the same device.

Rumours suggest that model number OPD2413 might be aimed at the Chinese market, though that’s just a guess for now. The hardware and software seem to match across the board.

It is interesting to note that this tablet might be closely related to the Oppo Pad 4 Pro, which just launched in China with the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. OnePlus and Oppo have a history of releasing tablets with similar specs, so it’s not far-fetched to expect the Pad 2 Pro to share some features.

OnePlus Pad 2 Pro – What To Expect?

If it follows the Oppo Pad 4 Pro’s design, the OnePlus Pad 2 Pro could come with a 13.2-inch 3.4K LCD display, a 144Hz refresh rate, up to 900 nits of brightness and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. It may also pack a 13MP rear camera, an 8MP front camera and a massive 12,140mAh battery with 67W fast charging.

If these leaks are accurate, the Pad 2 Pro could be a serious competitor to high-end tablets from Samsung and Apple, at least in terms of performance.

There’s no official launch date yet but with multiple appearances on Geekbench and the FCC, an announcement shouldn’t be far off.

FAQs

Q1. What is the processor used in the OnePlus Pad 2 Pro?

Answer. Both variants of the OnePlus Pad 2 Pro are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, paired with an Adreno 830 GPU, offering top-tier performance.

Q2. What are the benchmark scores of the OnePlus Pad 2 Pro?

Answer. The first variant (OPD2409) scored 2633 in single-core and 7779 in multi-core on Geekbench. The second variant (OPD2413) achieved higher scores: 3091 single-core and 9638 multi-core.

Q3. What are the expected features of the OnePlus Pad 2 Pro?

Answer. Rumoured features include a 13.2-inch 3.4K LCD display, 144Hz refresh rate, 12,140mAh battery with 67W fast charging, up to 512GB UFS 4.0 storage, and 13MP rear/8MP front cameras.

A new promo video highlights the X200 Ultra as a serious photography tool, not just another smartphone. The brand is really leaning into the idea that this device could take the place of a DSLR in your bag, especially with the quality of its earlier shared landscape photos and the latest portrait samples.

Vivo X200 Ultra – Camera Specs (Revealed)

We already know the full camera specs and they are impressive. The main 35mm camera uses a Sony LYT-818 sensor and a Zeiss T-coated GLC 2.0 lens. It includes CIPA 5.0-level optical image stabilisation (OIS) and is designed to reduce visible light reflection to under 0.1%. It also uses Vivo’s third-gen VCS bionic spectral imaging tech for better colour and detail.

The ultra-wide camera also uses a LYT-818 sensor, co-developed with Zeiss. It features a 14mm “Hawk Eye” lens, which lets in 181% more light and is 216% faster than the one on the previous model. Plus, it has dual-axis OIS for better stability.

Then there’s the 85mm telephoto lens, powered by a 200MP Samsung HP9 sensor. It’s the first APO-grade telephoto lens on a phone and uses a six-element design. Vivo says it performs 38% better in low light and is 41% more stable, thanks to 5.0-level OIS.

Under the hood, the phone uses Vivo’s first AI image processor, the VS1 chip, which delivers 80 TOPS of processing power. That means it can handle things like real-time bokeh, HDR and multi-frame shooting with ease.

Moto G86 First Look – Flat Design, Premium Look and a New Slot Revealed

0

Highlights

  • The Moto G86 will reportedly shift to a flat display and frame with a wider camera module.
  • The back might use soft vegan leather for a premium feel.
  • A new slot under the power button has been added, alongside the secondary mic hole and SIM slot.
  • There is no update about expected specs as of now.

Motorola hasn’t officially shared anything about the Moto G86 yet, but it looks like the follow-up to the Moto G85 is getting close. Based on a recent report of a Dutch outlet Nieuwe Mobiel, we now have our first clear look at the new design through leaked renders. Here’s what we know so far.

The Nieuwe Mobiel report has also released some renders of the upcoming Moto G86. Based on the images, we can say that the phone will be ditching the curved display and frame of its predecessor for a flat design.

The bezels look about the same as before and the buttons are still in the same spot along the flat edges.

The camera module now looks a lot like what we’ve seen on the pricier Moto Edge 60 and Edge 60 Fusion. It’s wider, with a similar lens layout. The back itself seems to use soft vegan leather, giving it a more premium look and feel. If this turns out to be true, it will be a nice touch for a mid-range phone.

There are some other small but interesting design tweaks too. In addition to the usual secondary mic hole on top and SIM slot on the left, there’s now an extra hole right under the power button, something that wasn’t there on the G85.

A Look Back At Predecessor Moto G85

While we don’t know much about the upcoming G86 in terms of features, here’s a quick look back at what its predecessor offered.

The Moto G85 featured a 50MP 1/1.95″ main camera, an 8MP ultrawide lens and a 32MP front camera. It ran on a Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chip and had a 5,000mAh battery. The front was a 6.67-inch FHD+ screen, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

It was launched with Android 14 and Motorola promised two years of Android updates and three years of security patches. The G85 got its first OS update before any of last year’s Galaxy flagships.

As for the G86, there’s no word yet on specs or features, but we can probably expect some solid improvements, both on paper and in daily use.

Reports suggest that since we’re already in April, there’s a good chance an official launch isn’t far off.
