Samsung is getting ready to launch its next-gen foldables and production has already begun. According to tipster PandaFlashPro on X (formerly Twitter), Samsung has started making both the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 along with their accessories. The company has reportedly stayed on schedule for its May production timeline, setting the stage for an early July launch, likely at an Unpacked event in the US.

Samsung has also started manufacturing foldable OLED panels for both phones. However, the company seems to be scaling back expectations this year, possibly due to weaker demand.

Reports say Samsung is aiming to produce around 3 million units of the Flip 7 and 2 million units of the Fold 7, which together mark a 40% drop compared to the previous generation.

Accessory production is also underway, and there’s even talk of a tri-fold phone coming later this year. That model, however, is expected to be limited to just 200,000 units and will likely be a premium niche device due to its high cost.

Battery Capacities Revealed via Certification

Both foldables have appeared on the UL Solutions Demko certification website, offering insight into their battery specs. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 carries batteries with model numbers EB-BF966ABE and EB-BF967ABE, with capacities of 2,126mAh and 2,146mAh, totalling around 4,272mAh.

That’s slightly smaller than the Z Fold 6, which had a 4,400mAh battery.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is listed with EB-BF766ABE and EB-BF767ABE, adding up to 4,174mAh from 1,189mAh and 2,985mAh cells. That’s a small bump from the 4,000mAh battery in the Flip 6.

Both devices are also confirmed to support 25W fast charging, the same as their predecessors, as per a separate 3C certification listing.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 – What Else to Expect?

Leaked details suggest that both foldables will run One UI 8 based on Android 16 out of the box. The Z Fold 7 is rumoured to feature a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, a smoother hinge, a less visible display crease and even a 200MP main camera.

On the other hand, the Z Flip 7 could debut with Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2500 chipset, marking a shift from Snapdragon chips. It’s also said to get a larger 4-inch cover display.

Meanwhile, Samsung is also preparing to launch the Galaxy S25 Edge, which is expected to go official in South Korea on May 13. It will be followed by China on May 23 and other markets by May 30.

Pre-orders have already started in the UK with special offers for early buyers.

iPhone 18 Pro Might Get A New Display Design, Apple Eyeing Staggered iPhone 18 Series Launch Schedule: Report

0

Highlights

  • Apple is moving towards a bezel-less iPhone by placing Face ID components under the screen in 2026.
  • Apple may launch iPhone 18 series models in two phases – Pro and Air versions in September 2026, followed by the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e in spring 2027.
  • Apple may also introduce its first-ever foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Air, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in 2026.

image

Caption – Apple is reportedly working on moving the Face ID under the display, eliminating the pill-shaped display cutout by 2026. (Image credit – Apple)

Apple has been working towards the goal of a completely edge-to-edge iPhone display for years now. It means no notches, no bezels and just an uninterrupted screen. Over the years, this goal has led to some big design changes like the introduction of the Dynamic Island that replaced the notch on recent models like the iPhone 16.

This year’s iPhone 17 is expected to stick with that same Dynamic Island design with no major bezel changes. But in 2026 and 2027, Apple is reportedly planning bigger steps toward a truly all-screen iPhone.

According to a recent The Information report, Apple plans to move the Face ID components under the display by 2026, which would eliminate the pill-shaped cutout in the current design. That would leave just one small cutout, specifically for the front-facing camera, on models like the iPhone 18 Pro.

But the twist is that the camera cutout may not be centred. According to Wayne Ma from The Information, it could be placed in the top-left corner of the screen.

As the report puts it, “The design of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will include only a small hole cutout in the top-left corner to accommodate the front-facing camera, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter. This design is a precursor to at least one 2027 iPhone model that will place the front-facing camera underneath the screen to enable a truly edge-to-edge display, two of the people said. Such a move would coincide with the 20-year anniversary of the first iPhone.”

This wouldn’t be the first smartphone with a top-left selfie camera, but it would definitely be a big design shift for Apple, which usually sticks to a more symmetrical layout.

Apple Might Stagger iPhone 18 Series Launch

image

Caption – Apple might launch iPhone 18 Series models in two phases. (Image credit – Apple)

Wayne Ma, in The Information report, also hints that Apple may be changing its iPhone release schedule starting with the iPhone 18 lineup. Instead of releasing all models at once in the fall, Apple may launch some in the usual September window and others in the spring.

This new approach is part of Apple’s effort to “rejuvenate” iPhone sales, which have slowed down in recent years as yearly upgrades have gotten smaller.

It starts this year with the launch of the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, though suppliers are reportedly not very confident about its performance. The report says the 17 Air only makes up about 10% of production capacity.

If that model doesn’t do well, manufacturers are ready to shift its production capacity to other models.

From 2026 onward, Apple plans to separate its releases into two phases. In September 2026, Apple will launch the iPhone 18 Air, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and possibly its first-ever foldable iPhone. Then in spring 2027, Apple will release the standard iPhone 18 and the next version of the budget-friendly iPhone 16e, likely called iPhone 18e.

As the report explains, “The iPhone 18 series will include updated versions of Apple’s thin iPhone, Pro and Pro Max, along with the new foldable device. In spring 2027, Apple plans to release the standard iPhone 18 and a successor to the more budget-friendly iPhone 16e, the people said.”

Both those models, which are based on older and less complicated designs, will undergo manufacturing trials first in India as part of Apple’s efforts to reduce its manufacturing risk in China, two of the people said,” it further adds.

This means we probably won’t see a new iPhone 17e model next year. And with a staggered launch strategy, Apple could better spread out demand and possibly boost sales throughout the year.

FAQs

Q1. What design changes are expected for the iPhone 18 Pro display?

Answer. Apple plans to move Face ID components under the display by 2026, eliminating the pill-shaped cutout. The iPhone 18 Pro will have only a small front-camera cutout in the top-left corner, paving the way for a fully edge-to-edge display by 2027.

Q2. Will Apple change its iPhone launch schedule starting with the iPhone 18 series?

Answer. Yes, Apple may stagger its iPhone releases, launching Pro and Air models in September 2026, followed by the standard iPhone 18 and budget-friendly iPhone 18e in spring 2027.

Q3. Is Apple working on a foldable iPhone?

Answer. Apple may introduce its first-ever foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Air, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max in 2026.

Apple’s Chip Strategy – C1 to C3 Modems, Proxima Wi-Fi and the Future of Apple Silicon

0

Highlights

  • Apple’s upcoming C2 and C3 modems (2026 and 2027) aim to match and surpass Qualcomm’s capabilities.
  • Apple plans to replace Broadcom’s networking chips with its own Proxima chip, expected to launch in 2025.
  • This chip will support Wi-Fi 6E and may debut in HomePod mini, Apple TV, iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
  • Apple is considering integrating its modem technology directly into Apple Silicon chips by 2028.

image

Caption – Apple introduced an in-house C1 modem earlier this year with the iPhone 16e. (Image credit – Apple)

It has been obvious for a while that Apple wants more control over the chips inside your iPhone. A recent report has now shed some light on Apple’s strategy when it comes to chips.

C1 Modem Was Built for Efficiency

Apple introduced its first in-house modem, the C1, with the iPhone 16e earlier this year. It’s focused on efficiency, not peak performance. It doesn’t support 5G mmWave and lacks support for some wavelengths handled by Qualcomm’s modems. Even so, it performs well in testing. Apple calls it “the most power-efficient modem ever on an iPhone, delivering fast and reliable 5G cellular connectivity.”

Because it’s more about saving power than delivering the fastest speeds, the C1 isn’t coming to most iPhone 17 models. But it’s expected to appear in the iPhone 17 Air, where efficiency is key for the thinner design.

C2 and C3 Modems Are on the Way

Apple is already working on future modems. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to fully replace Qualcomm within two generations.

In 2026, Apple will launch the C2 modem codenamed Ganymede with the iPhone 18 lineup. It’s also coming to iPads in 2027. Gurman says, “The big difference is that Ganymede will catch up to current Qualcomm modems by adding support for mmWave, download speeds of 6 gigabits per second, six-carrier aggregation when using Sub-6, and eight-carrier aggregation when using mmWave.”

Then in 2027, the C3 modem codenamed Prometheus will debut alongside the iPhone 19 series. Gurman adds, “In 2027, Apple aims to roll out its third modem, code-named Prometheus. The company hopes to top Qualcomm with that component’s performance and artificial intelligence features by that point. It will also build in support for next-generation satellite networks.”

Meanwhile, Apple is also thinking about bringing cellular connectivity to MacBooks, possibly starting in 2026, thanks to these new in-house modems.

New Networking Chip: Proxima

Apple isn’t just looking to ditch Qualcomm. It also wants to stop using Broadcom’s networking chips. A new in-house chip, codenamed Proxima, might launch later this year.

According to Gurman, it supports Wi-Fi 6E and is most likely to debut in updated HomePod mini and Apple TV models this year. Gurman also notes that it could potentially serve as a Wi-Fi router and is expected in some iPhone models this year, and iPads and Macs in 2026

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes Apple will go even further. He says the entire iPhone 17 lineup will feature the chip, not just the iPhone 17 Air and that it will “enhance connectivity across Apple devices,” while also reducing cost.

Modem Integration Into Apple Silicon

Once Apple finishes switching to its own modems, it may go a step further and build them right into its main Apple Silicon chips. So instead of having an A18 chip and a separate C1 chip, everything would be in one package.

Gurman says this integration won’t happen until 2028 at the earliest, but it’s being considered. If it happens, it could lead to big improvements in both cost and efficiency.

FAQs

Q1. What is Apple’s first in-house modem, and how does it differ from Qualcomm’s modems?

Answer. Apple’s first in-house modem, the C1, was introduced with the iPhone 16e. It focuses on efficiency rather than peak performance, lacking support for 5G mmWave and certain wavelengths handled by Qualcomm modems. Despite this, Apple calls it “the most power-efficient modem ever on an iPhone, delivering fast and reliable 5G cellular connectivity.”

Q2. What is the Apple Proxima networking chip, and when will it be released?

Answer. Apple is developing an in-house networking chip called Proxima to replace Broadcom’s chips. Expected to launch in 2025, it supports Wi-Fi 6E and may debut in updated HomePod mini, Apple TV, iPhone models and iPads and Macs in 2026.

Q3. When does Apple plan to integrate its modems into Apple Silicon chips?

Answer. Apple may integrate its modem technology directly into its main Apple Silicon chips by 2028 at the earliest. This move could lead to significant improvements in cost and efficiency.

iPhone 17 Air Could Be Apple’s Thinnest iPhone Yet, But With Shorter Battery Life, To Include Battery Case

0

Highlights

  • Report suggests only 60–70% of users of the iPhone 17 Air may get a full day of battery life.
  • To address battery limitations, Apple plans to reintroduce the battery case providing extra power and protection.
  • The phone is expected to have a single rear camera, a single speaker and no physical SIM slot, relying entirely on eSIM.

If you even remotely follow Apple’s rumour circle, you would already know that the upcoming iPhone 17 Air is shaping up to be Apple’s slimmest iPhone ever. However, as speculated by many tech experts, it seems this ultra-thin profile comes with a tradeoff – reduced battery life.

Caption – A side-by-side comparison of the upcoming iPhone 17 Air with the current iPhone 16 Pro. (Image credit – Apple Track on YouTube)

iPhone 17 Air To Have Small Battery Size

According to a report from The Information, only 60–70% of users are expected to get through a full day without needing to recharge the iPhone 17 Air. In comparison, 80–90% of users with other iPhone 17 models will likely get all-day battery.

The main reason isn’t a surprise. The iPhone 17 Air is just 5.5mm thick, making it the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever made.

To make up for the smaller battery, Apple plans to bring back a discontinued accessory, the battery case. The new case will not only add extra battery life but also protect the phone. Apple hasn’t sold battery cases since the iPhone 11 series, instead switching to the MagSafe Battery Pack for newer models, which is now out of stock.

The report reads: “The percentage of users who can go a single day without recharging the thin phone will be between 60% and 70%. For other models, that metric is between 80% and 90%, one of the people said. To solve this, Apple is developing an optional accessory—a phone case meant for the thin model that also contains a battery pack, according to three people familiar with the matter.”

There’s still uncertainty about how well the iPhone 17 Air will sell. Some people might love the fresh, slim design, but others could be turned off by the battery compromises. Because of this mixed outlook, Apple is starting with limited production, only 10% of the total iPhone 17 units will be the Air version.

iPhone 17 Air – Case Samples Spotted Online

Caption – iPhone 17 Air and other iPhone 17 model case sample images. (Image credit – @LusiRoy8 on X)

As for how it’ll feel in real life, case samples based on the iPhone 17 Air’s dimensions have surfaced online. These sample case images were shared by user @LusiRoy8 on X (formerly Twitter) recently.

We haven’t yet seen how the phone looks inside a case, but there’s a chance it could feel as slim as an iPhone 16 Pro without a case, which could be a win for users who want both style and protection.

The iPhone 17 Air will also be lighter, though its larger display may balance out some of the weight savings. For those who like using their phone without a case, the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air could feel great in hand.

But if the case adds back the thickness, the slim appeal might be lost.

iPhone 17 Air – What Else To Expect?

There are also a few more differences. The iPhone 17 Air will have just one rear camera, a single speaker, and no physical SIM slot, relying entirely on eSIM.

The next iPhone series is expected to launch in September 2025.

FAQs

Q1. How thin will the iPhone 17 Air be, and how does it affect battery life?

Answer. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be just 5.5mm thick, making it Apple’s slimmest phone yet. However, only 60–70% of users may get a full day of battery life.

Q2. How is Apple addressing the battery limitations of the iPhone 17 Air?

Answer. Apple plans to bring back the battery case, last seen with the iPhone 11 series, to provide extra battery life while also serving as a protective accessory.

Q3. What features does the iPhone 17 Air lack compared to other models?

Answer. The device will have only one rear camera, a single speaker, and no physical SIM slot, relying entirely on eSIM. Additionally, its production will be limited to 10% of the total iPhone 17 units.

Oppo Reno 14 Pro Could Launch with New Dimensity 8450 Chipset

0

Highlights

  • Possible Oppo Reno 14 Pro spotted in Geekbench listing under model number PKZ110.
  • Leaks suggest it will launch with the unannounced Dimensity 8450 chipset.
  • Dimensity 8450 is expected to bring smoother scene transitions, better touch response and minor AI improvements.
  • Oppo may also launch the Enco Clip earbuds and the Pad SE tablet alongside the Reno 14.

Oppo’s next premium mid-range phone has been appearing online recently. At first, a new device with model number PKZ110 recently showed up on Geekbench, running what appeared to be the Dimensity 8400 chipset. But now, a new leak claims otherwise. Here’s what we know.

Meanwhile, when someone asked DCS how the Dimensity 8450 differs from the 8400, the tipster compared it to the Dimensity 8350 vs. 8300 situation. For context, last year’s Reno 13 and Reno 13 Pro came with the Dimensity 8350 chipset.

More About Unannounced Dimensity 8450

Much like the 8350 and 8300, the CPU and GPU core configurations of Dimensity 8450 are expected to stay the same between the 8450 and 8400. But the 8450 will likely offer better gaming performance, thanks to MediaTek’s StarSpeed Engine.

This includes smoother scene transitions, improved touch response, and slightly better power efficiency. The new chip might also offer small improvements in AI features.

With the Reno 14 series launch expected this month in China, the Dimensity 8450 will probably be made official just before the phones drop.

Leaks also hint that Oppo might launch other products alongside the Reno 14 lineup, which could include the Enco Clip earbuds and the Pad SE tablet. The Pad SE is tipped to feature an 11-inch LCD, a new Dimensity G100 chip, a 9,300mAh battery and 33W fast charging. It will reportedly be 7.39mm thick and weigh 530 grams.

More details should be out soon as we get closer to launch.

In a recent report, Android Headlines shared the images and some key details about the next Motorola phone in line.

The leaked renders show a dual-curved display, which is said to be a 6.7-inch pOLED panel.

On the back, the phone keeps the triple-camera setup in a familiar island layout and features a vegan leather finish, just like the Edge 60. New colour options might also be in the pipeline likely expanding on the blue and green variants from its predecessor.

While Motorola hasn’t confirmed the specs yet, rumours suggest the Edge 70 will use the same 50MP Sony Lytia 700C main camera as the Edge 60.

Under the hood, it may get a performance boost with the MediaTek Dimensity 7400, the same chip expected in the upcoming Razr 2025 and 12GB of RAM, a solid setup for a phone expected to cost around $400.

Motorola Edge 70 – Launch Timeline (Expected)
