The Geekbench listing doesn’t mention the chipset by name, but it’s paired with an Adreno 830 GPU and has a CPU clock speed of up to 4.32GHz. This points to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, Qualcomm’s latest high-end processor, which has already been rumoured for this phone.

The listing also shows the phone packs 12GB of RAM and runs on Android 15. As for performance, the Xperia 1 VII scored 2,967 in the single-core test and 9,017 in the multi-core test. These scores match what we’ve seen from other Snapdragon 8 Elite devices, confirming that Sony is actively testing the hardware.

An Apple Watch played a crucial role in saving the life of a 57-year-old man from Ohio after he suffered a stroke while working out.

According to a report by 9to5Mac, Derick Grant was skipping rope in his driveway on a hot summer day when he decided to push himself a little harder. Soon after finishing his workout, he collapsed and lost feeling in his arms and legs.

Based on the viral video, it was claimed that Grant’s Apple Watch detected the fall using its Fall Detection feature and asked if he wanted to call emergency services. At first, Grant dismissed it, thinking he just needed a moment to recover. But as his condition didn’t improve, he accepted the prompt and called for help.

Paramedics arrived shortly after and began treating him for a stroke. The Apple Watch also notified his emergency contact, which helped speed up the response. All of this combined likely played a key role in saving his life.

How Apple Watch Fall Detection Works?

Apple introduced Fall Detection in 2018 with the Apple Watch Series 4. The feature is designed to recognise hard falls, sound an alarm and display a prompt for emergency assistance.

If the user doesn’t respond, the watch can automatically contact emergency services and share the user’s location.

This isn’t the first time the Apple Watch has helped in a life-threatening situation. Earlier this year, it helped save a 55-year-old man from Massachusetts who blacked out while driving and ended up trapped upside down in a neighbour’s swimming pool.

In another incident shared on X (formerly Twitter) in October 2024, an Apple Watch Series 10 alerted an elderly woman to atrial fibrillation (AFib), a condition where the heart’s upper chambers beat rapidly and irregularly. Thanks to the early warning, she was able to seek medical attention in time.

FAQs

Q1. How did the Apple Watch help save a 57-year-old Ohio man’s life?

Answer. The Apple Watch detected his fall using the Fall Detection feature and prompted him to call emergency services. When his condition worsened, he accepted the prompt, leading paramedics to arrive and treat him for a stroke.

Q2. How does Apple’s Fall Detection work?

Answer. Fall Detection recognises hard falls, sounds an alarm, and displays a prompt for emergency assistance. If the user doesn’t respond, the watch automatically contacts emergency services and shares the user’s location.

Q3. Has Apple Watch helped in similar life-threatening situations before?

Answer. Yes! It previously helped a man trapped in a pool after blacking out while driving and alerted an elderly woman to atrial fibrillation (AFib), allowing her to seek medical attention in time.

YouTube Tests Blurred Thumbnails for Mature Content to Make Search Safer

0

Highlights

  • YouTube is testing a blurred thumbnail feature for search results containing mature or suggestive content.
  • The blur effect applies only to thumbnails while titles, channel names and descriptions remain visible. Users can manually unblur thumbnails if desired.
  • The feature is currently being tested with a small group of users.

YouTube is testing a new feature that blurs video thumbnails in search results for content related to mature or sexual themes. The idea is to help users especially younger ones avoid unexpectedly seeing sensitive visuals while browsing.

This feature is currently being tested with a small group of users.

According to Google, this experiment is part of YouTube’s efforts to create a safer experience for users of all ages. Even if a video follows YouTube’s Community Guidelines, its thumbnail might still show suggestive imagery. YouTube wants to address that by blurring such thumbnails.

In an official post dated April 29, 2025, YouTube explained, “We’re experimenting with a new feature that’s aimed at providing safer search experiences for all users.” It added, “For search queries that frequently include sexual themes, the search results may display blurred thumbnails.”

YouTube hasn’t shared exactly which keywords or topics will trigger this blur effect, but it confirmed that only the thumbnails will be blurred. Everything else such as the video title, channel name and description will still be visible.

Also, the feature won’t be locked in and users will have the option to manually unblur the thumbnail if they want to. The goal of the test is to see if this extra step helps users “avoid accidentally viewing content that follows YouTube’s Community Guidelines but may be sensitive in nature.”

YouTube clarified that this isn’t about censorship or blocking content. It’s simply a visual buffer to let people decide if they want to click on a video or not.

This test is different from Google’s SafeSearch, which filters and blurs explicit content entirely. In contrast, YouTube’s feature doesn’t block videos, it just softens the visuals by blurring the thumbnails. It could be particularly useful for parents who want an added layer of protection for their kids or for users who want to steer clear of mature imagery while casually browsing.

There’s no word yet on when this feature will roll out to everyone. YouTube says it’s “rolling this test out to a small percentage of viewers” for now.

According to reports, the company will likely use the trial period to track engagement, gather feedback and decide whether the feature should be expanded.

FAQs

Q1. What is YouTube testing with blurred thumbnails?

Answer. YouTube is experimenting with a blurred thumbnail feature for search results related to mature or suggestive content, aiming to create a safer browsing experience.

Q2. Can YouTube users still view the original thumbnails?

Answer. Yes, YouTube only blurs the thumbnails, while the video title, channel name, and description remain visible. Users can manually unblur thumbnails if desired.

Q3. When will this YouTube feature roll out to all users?

Answer. YouTube is testing the feature with a small group of users, tracking engagement and feedback before deciding on a broader rollout.

Apple is gearing up to launch the iPhone 17 series later this year and early leaks suggest some big upgrades are on the way. While we already have an idea about possible design changes thanks to leaked images and videos recently, it is now reported that Apple is planning upgrades in terms of memory as well.

iPhone 17 Series – Memory Upgrade

According to a new rumour from well-known tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, all four iPhone 17 models will come with 12GB of RAM. This includes the base model, which was previously uncertain. iPhone 17 Series – Rumours

The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are also expected to run on Apple’s new A19 Pro chip, which will be built using TSMC’s advanced 3nm process. This chip, paired with 12GB RAM, should deliver a noticeable performance boost over the current A18 Pro used in the iPhone 16 Pro models.

On the design side, the iPhone 17 Air has been seen in leaked dummy units, showing off an ultra-slim design. This could hint at a new design direction for Apple.

Meanwhile, another report suggests that the model from the iPhone 17 lineup has already passed the Engineering Validation Test (EVT), one of the first steps in Apple’s product testing cycle. It will soon move on to the Design Validation Test (DVT) and then the Production Validation Test (PVT), keeping Apple on schedule for a September launch.

Meta has announced that it will soon start using cloud-based systems to handle AI features on WhatsApp. These new tools like chat summaries and writing suggestions are designed to work without compromising WhatsApp’s strong privacy and security standards.

To make this possible, Meta is launching a system called Private Processing. This is a secure computing setup that allows AI features to run in a protected cloud space. It’s similar to Apple’s Private Cloud Compute (PCC), which Apple introduced last year to power its Apple Intelligence features while keeping user data private.

What is Meta’s Private Processing?

Meta says Private Processing is built to keep your data safe while using AI tools. It sets up a secure virtual environment in the cloud so that tasks like summarising unread chats or offering writing help can happen without anyone, not even Meta, seeing your private messages.

Meta explains, “We’re excited to share an initial overview of Private Processing, a new technology we’ve built to support people’s needs and aspirations to leverage AI in a secure and privacy-preserving way. This confidential computing infrastructure, built on top of a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), will make it possible for people to direct AI to process their requests — like summarizing unread WhatsApp threads or getting writing suggestions — in our secure and private cloud environment.”

“In other words, Private Processing will allow users to leverage powerful AI features, while preserving WhatsApp’s core privacy promise, ensuring no one except you and the people you’re talking to can access or share your personal messages, not even Meta or WhatsApp,” the company further adds.

Similar to PCC, Private Processing will also use what is called the stateless processing. It explains, “Stateless processing and forward security: Private Processing must not retain access to user messages once the session is complete to ensure that the attacker can not gain access to historical requests or responses.”

Moreover, Meta will let users verify the claims as it states that “users and security researchers must be able to audit the behavior of Private Processing to independently verify our privacy and security guarantees.”

How Does it Work?

Here’s how it works –

  • When you use an AI feature on WhatsApp, like asking it to summarise chats, the request is sent to Meta’s cloud servers.
  • The system checks to make sure the request is coming from a genuine WhatsApp app on a valid device.
  • Then, the request is encrypted and anonymised, which means Meta can’t tell who sent it or where it came from.
  • Once it reaches the servers, the request is handled inside what Meta calls a confidential virtual machine (CVM). Meta claims that not even the company itself can see what’s being processed.
  • After processing, the response (like a chat summary) is encrypted again and sent back to your device. Only your device can unlock and read it.

Apple’s Private Cloud Compute

Meanwhile, Apple follows a similar method for its Apple Intelligence features using what it calls Private Cloud Compute.

To achieve this, most AI processing is done directly on your device. Moreover, if a task needs more power, it gets sent to PCC servers. Any personal data sent is protected with end-to-end encryption, so not even Apple can access it.

Apple also uses stateless computation. This means once the processing is done, all the personal data is immediately deleted and it’s like it was never there. On top of that, Apple lets security researchers verify this process to make sure everything works as promised.

When Is Private Processing Coming To WhatsApp?

Meta says it will start rolling out Private Processing in the next few weeks.

The first features to use this system will include AI-generated chat summaries and writing suggestions. Over time, Meta plans to expand this privacy-focused tech to support more AI features on WhatsApp.

FAQs

Q1. What is Meta’s Private Processing, and how does it ensure privacy?

Answer. Meta’s Private Processing is a secure cloud-based computing system designed to handle AI features like chat summaries and writing suggestions on WhatsApp while maintaining user privacy. It creates a secure virtual environment where AI tasks are processed without exposing private messages even to Meta itself.

Q2. How does Private Processing work when a user requests an AI feature?

Answer. When a user requests an AI feature (e.g., chat summarisation), the request is encrypted and anonymised before being sent to Meta’s cloud servers. The processing happens inside a confidential virtual machine (CVM), ensuring Meta cannot view the content. The encrypted response is then sent back to the user’s device, which is the only one capable of unlocking and reading the final output.

Q3. When will Private Processing be available on WhatsApp?

Answer. Meta plans to roll out Private Processing in the coming weeks. The first features using this system will include AI-generated chat summaries and writing suggestions, with future expansion to additional AI functionalities.
