MediaTek Helio G200 Launches With Minimal Upgrades, Mostly Remains Similar To Helio G100

0

Highlights

  • MediaTek Helio G200 launches with minimal upgrades.
  • It retains the same octa-core setup, LPDDR4X RAM support and display capabilities as the Helio G100.
  • Performance improvements include a slightly faster Mali-G57 GPU, better benchmark scores, and 30% improved power efficiency for gaming.
  • Connectivity enhancements feature a Cat-13 4G LTE modem, dual VoLTE support and a new 4G DC SAR feature.

image

MediaTek is back with a new budget 4G chip named the Helio G200, but don’t expect big changes. Just like with the recently launched Dimensity 6400, which was nearly identical to the Dimensity 6300, the Helio G200 mostly sticks to the script of its predecessor the Helio G100. It comes with only a few tweaks here and there. Here’s what we know.

MediaTek Helio G200

Under the hood, the Helio G200 keeps the same octa-core setup as the G100. It packs two Cortex-A76 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores, clocked at up to 2.2GHz and 2.0GHz, just like the G100. The GPU is still from the Mali-G57 family, but this time MediaTek says it’s slightly faster, now running at 1.1GHz.

Memory and storage support haven’t changed either. It still handles LPDDR4X RAM up to 4266Mbps and UFS 2.2 storage. Camera and display capabilities are also the same, including support for up to 200MP sensors, multi-frame noise reduction and 12-bit dual conversion gain (DCG) for better HDR video.

The chip can drive a Full HD+ display at 120Hz with MediaTek’s Intelligent Display Sync tech to save power by adjusting refresh rates dynamically.

Meanwhile, MediaTek isn’t directly comparing the G200 to the G100.  Instead, the chipmaker is focusing on how the G200 stacks up against “competitor alternative platforms.”

According to the company, the G200 offers 35% faster AnTuTu scores, 40% better single-core and 20% better multi-core Geekbench scores and 75% faster GPU performance with 30% better power efficiency in gaming.

On the connectivity side, the G200 includes an integrated Cat-13 4G LTE modem with support for dual 4G VoLTE, 4×4 MIMO, 256QAM and global bands. There’s also a new 4G DC SAR feature, which aims to improve messaging and social app performance in weak signal areas.

The Helio G200 is more of a refreshed Helio G100 than a truly new chip. While there are some performance boosts and power tweaks, it almost seems like what we have seen before now just dressed up with updated branding and marketing.

FAQs

Q1. What are the main upgrades in the MediaTek Helio G200 compared to the Helio G100?

Answer. The Helio G200 has a slightly faster Mali-G57 GPU and improved benchmark scores, offering 35% better AnTuTu performance, 40% faster single-core, and 75% improved GPU performance.

Q2. Does the Helio G200 support 5G connectivity?

Answer. No, the Helio G200 remains a budget 4G chip, featuring a Cat-13 4G LTE modem with dual VoLTE support, 4×4 MIMO, 256QAM, and a new 4G DC SAR feature for better performance in weak signal areas.

Q3. What display and camera features does the Helio G200 offer?

Answer. It supports Full HD+ displays at 120Hz with Intelligent Display Sync, and camera sensors up to 200MP, along with multi-frame noise reduction and 12-bit dual conversion gain for enhanced HDR video.

Samsung Galaxy S25 FE Could Go For Dimensity 9400 Instead Of Exynos 2400e Due To Production Issues

0

Highlights

  • Samsung may switch to MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 for the Galaxy S25 FE despite preferring in-house processors.
  • It could be due to production issues with its own Exynos 2400e chip.
  • Dimensity 9400 offers better performance and efficiency with a 35% single-core boost and 40% improved power efficiency.
  • The Galaxy S25 FE is expected between September and November 2025.

image

Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy S25 FE, likely sometime between September and November 2025. While the original plan was to power the phone with Samsung’s own Exynos 2400e chip, a new report suggests the company might switch to MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 instead.

A latest report from Notebookcheck says the decision to go for MediaTek SoC mainly due to production issues with the Exynos chip.

The Dimensity 9400 is made by TSMC and is actually more powerful than the Exynos 2400e. However, using it could bump up the cost of making the phone. Samsung generally prefers sticking with its own Exynos chips because they’re more affordable and help the company keep the money in-house.

The report also notes that the stronger performance of the Dimensity 9400 might make the S25 FE a more attractive option, especially since the current S24 FE already uses the Exynos 2400e.

MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 launched in October 2024 and is a top-tier chip with a unique All Big Core setup. It includes one Arm Cortex-X925 core running at over 3.62GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores. Compared to the older Dimensity 9300, it offers a 35% boost in single-core and 28% in multi-core performance. Plus, thanks to TSMC’s second-gen 3nm process, it’s up to 40% more power-efficient, which should mean better battery life, too.

This wouldn’t be the first time Samsung uses a MediaTek chip in one of its premium devices. The Galaxy Tab S10+ and Tab S10 Ultra, both launched in September last year, came with the Dimensity 9300+ processor.

Firmware development for the Galaxy S25 FE is already underway with the US version going by the model number SM-S731U. It’s expected to ship with One UI 8 based on Android 16.

As we get closer to launch, more details about the Galaxy S25 FE’s specs and features should start to surface.

FAQs

Q1. Why might Samsung use MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 in the Galaxy S25 FE?

Answer. Production issues with Samsung’s own Exynos 2400e chip have reportedly led the company to consider MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 instead.

Q2. What are the benefits of the Dimensity 9400 over the Exynos 2400e?

Answer. Dimensity 9400 is more powerful, offering a 35% boost in single-core and 28% in multi-core performance, along with 40% better power efficiency.

Q3. When is the Galaxy S25 FE expected to launch, and what OS will it run?

Answer. The Galaxy S25 FE is expected between September and November 2025, with firmware development already underway, running One UI 8 based on Android 16.

The Galaxy Watch 8 series might be getting a major design shakeup. According to leaked images from a Samsung app, the upcoming smartwatches could ditch the fully circular design we’ve seen on previous models.

The team at Android Authority found images in the new One UI 8 Watch firmware showing both models, codenamed “Fresh8” and “Wise8.”

Instead of the usual round shape with top and bottom lugs for the watch band, these images show what looks like a “squircle” design. It looks like something in between a square and a circle. However, it closely resembles the design of the Galaxy Watch Ultra.

The display itself is still circular, but the overall shape has a more square footprint. The buttons also stick out a bit more now.

The Galaxy Watch 8 seems to have two buttons, while the Watch 8 Classic comes with three, just like the Galaxy Watch Ultra. It’s not entirely clear from the images how the Classic version will differ from the Ultra, but one possible difference could be the rotating bezel.

Meanwhile, Samsung had already teased a fresh look for its next watch. During its latest earnings call, the company said the upcoming Galaxy Watch would feature a “new” and “innovative” design.

The company said, “For wearables, we will expand our market presence with a strengthened premium experience while expanding our lineup across all price segments. We plan to launch a new Galaxy Watch with an innovative design and enhanced health-related features.”

While nothing is official yet, it’s looking more and more like Samsung is moving away from the classic round design we’ve gotten used to over the years.
