iPhone Fold Could Launch Next Year as Prototypes Move Forward, iPad Fold Delayed: Report

0

Highlights

  • Apple’s foldable iPhone has reached the P1 prototype stage with a potential launch in the second half of 2026 if development stays on track.
  • The iPhone Fold may feature a titanium body, a 7.58-inch display, and dual 48MP cameras, with Apple aiming to eliminate display creases seen in rival foldables.
  • Apple has reportedly paused development of the iPad Fold due to manufacturing challenges, high costs, and low demand for large foldable devices.

Apple’s long-rumoured foldable iPhone, which is casually referred to as the iPhone Fold, might finally become a reality next year. According to a new report, the device is on track for a possible launch in the second half of 2026 with early prototypes already being tested. Meanwhile, the same report also reveals that the Cupertino Giant may have decided to put iPad Fold on hold as of now. Here’s more on the latest leaks.

iPhone Fold Hits First Major Prototype Stage

image
iPhone Fold has reportedly entered the P1 (Prototype 1) stage last month, where the company builds fully functional hardware units for initial testing. (Image credit – 9to5Mac)

The foldable iPhone is said to have reached the P1 (Prototype 1) stage last month, which is when Apple builds fully functional hardware units for initial testing. Before this, Apple typically goes through a series of mockups and breadboard models to fine-tune the design and internals.

Although reaching the P1 stage is a key step, it’s still early. There are two more prototype phases to go before the device can enter the EVT (Engineering Validation Test) phase, where Apple checks if the design can be mass-produced effectively.

The reveal comes from a latest Digitimes report, which states, “Apple has quietly entered the early stages of developing its long-rumored foldable iPhone, with supply chain sources confirming that the company began its initial P1 (Prototype 1) phase in June. If everything stays on track, the device could complete prototype testing by the end of 2025 and proceed to the Engineering Verification Test (EVT) stage, setting the stage for a possible launch in the second half of 2026.”

As expected, Apple is sticking to its “best, not first” philosophy. While other companies have already released foldable phones (some with visible issues like display creases), Apple is reportedly working hard to eliminate that flaw entirely.

In fact, Apple is pushing its display partner Samsung to create a screen that’s more advanced than the one used in Samsung’s own foldables.

iPhone Fold – Specs Still Not Finalised

While official specifications are still undecided, a leaker has shared some early details. The iPhone Fold is rumoured to feature a titanium body, a 7.58-inch display, and dual 48MP rear cameras.

Some reports believe that the design language seen in the upcoming iPhone 17 Air could have served as a testing ground or design preview for the foldable iPhone.

iPad Fold Development on Hold

image

While the iPhone Fold is moving ahead, Apple’s other foldable project known as the iPad Fold appears to be on pause. The same Digitimes report suggests that development of the foldable iPad has been halted, at least for now.

Aaron Lee and Sherri Wang write at Digitimes, “Sources familiar with the matter say Apple had also been exploring a foldable iPad alongside the iPhone. However, the company has decided to pause progress on the larger foldable device for the time being. Industry experts attribute this decision to manufacturing difficulties, increased production expenses—particularly related to flexible display technology—and a relatively modest consumer demand for larger foldable devices.

Previously, predictions for its launch varied widely. Analyst Jeff Pu expected it in 2026, while Mark Gurman believed we might not see it before 2028 or later. Now, the longer timeline seems more likely, assuming it even launches at all.

As of now, Apple seems to be waiting to see how the iPhone Fold performs before committing to two foldable products. As noted in the report, demand for large foldables like tablets hasn’t been very strong yet.

If the iPhone Fold turns out to be a success next year, Apple may revisit and finalise the specs for the iPad Fold in time for a potential 2028 release.

FAQs

Q1. What stage is the iPhone Fold currently in?

Answer. The foldable iPhone is said to have reached the P1 (Prototype 1) stage, which is when Apple builds fully functional hardware units for initial testing.

Q2. What are the rumored specifications of the iPhone Fold?

Answer. The iPhone Fold is rumoured to feature a titanium body, a 7.58-inch display, and dual 48MP rear cameras.

Q3. Why has Apple paused development of the iPad Fold?

Answer. Apple has decided to pause progress on the iPad Fold due to manufacturing difficulties, increased production expenses, and relatively modest consumer demand for larger foldable devices.

Meta’s Upcoming Smart Glasses May Launch as ‘Meta Celeste’ With Built-in Game and Wristband Control

0

Highlights

  • Upcoming Meta smart glasses could possibly be launching as Meta Celeste.
  • Leaked images show a Ray-Ban-style frame with thicker arms, touch bar controls, and a Ceres wristband that uses muscle signals for gestures like pinching and rotating.
  • The glasses are expected to run a custom Android version, may include a mini-game called Hypertrail inspired by Galaga and a display in the lower right lens.

Meta’s next-gen smart glasses, which were previously codenamed Hypernova, might soon launch under the new name Meta Celeste. • Possibly even handwriting input, though that feature may not be ready at launch

Meta is also said to be testing tap and swipe-based controls, giving users multiple ways to interact with the glasses.

Meanwhile, early firmware reveals a mini-game called Hypertrail, which reportedly takes inspiration from the classic arcade game Galaga. This could be a fun, built-in extra on the smart glasses.

Reports suggest that the device will run on a highly customised Android version, and will likely feature a single display located in the lower right corner of the right lens.

Price and Launch Name

Though the project is still codenamed Hypernova, it may officially launch under the name Meta Celeste, styled as “Meta | Celeste”, according to the leak.

As for price, it is expected to fall between $1,000 (around ₹85,600) and $1,400 (around ₹1,19,800) in the US when it launches.

Meta is giving Threads some long-awaited independence from Instagram. The app is officially rolling out its own direct messaging (DMs) and a new visual highlights feature called Threads Highlighter. These updates are launching just in time for the platform’s second anniversary. Threads first went live on July 5, 2023.

Announcing the rollout, the company said, “More than a third of daily Threads users with connections follow mostly different accounts on Threads than on Instagram, showing that Threads is establishing its own unique user base.”

Threads’ DMs Are Here

Since Threads launched, users have been asking for direct messaging, and it’s finally happening. But there are a few ground rules for now. First, DMs are not encrypted. Also, you can only send messages to people who follow you back on Threads, or mutual followers from Instagram. Both users also need to be over 18.

Meta says more features for DMs are on the way, which will include the following –

  • Message controls to let you choose who can send you messages, even people who don’t follow you.
  • Group messaging allowing conversations with multiple people at once.
  • Inbox filters to help you find and reply to important messages faster.

The Threads Highlighter

You’ll start seeing the highlighter in important parts of the app where you usually discover content, especially on Trending topics. Meta says more placements will be added over time.

Both DMs and Highlighter features are available worldwide now, marking a big step in Threads’ shift toward becoming more than just an Instagram add-on.

The OnePlus Nord CE 5 will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Apex chipset, paired with the Mali-G615 GPU for graphics. It’s an octa-core processor that can go up to 3.35GHz and is built to offer a good balance between performance and efficiency. The device also comes with LPDDR5X RAM for faster multitasking.

Gamers will be pleased to know that the phone supports BGMI and Call of Duty Mobile at up to 120 FPS. According to OnePlus, the Nord CE 5 has an AnTuTu score of over 1.47 million, which suggests strong performance, though we’ll have to test that in real-world use.

One of the standout features of the Nord CE 5 is its massive 7,100mAh battery. It supports 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging, which OnePlus claims can take the phone from 1% to 100% in just 59 minutes. A quick 10-minute charge is said to deliver over 6 hours of YouTube streaming.

The phone also includes Battery Health Magic to help maintain long-term battery performance, along with Bypass Charging, a feature that powers the phone directly while gaming to keep the battery cool and healthy.

On the camera front, the Nord CE 5 will come with a 50MP Sony LYT-600 main sensor featuring OIS. It uses the same RAW HDR algorithm and Real Tone exposure tech found in the OnePlus 13 series. There’s also support for Ultra HDR in Live Photos and 4K 60fps HDR video recording on the main camera, which is quite impressive at this price point.

As for pricing, we don’t have confirmed information yet. However, speculations suggest that if OnePlus sticks close to the Nord CE 4’s launch price of Rs 24,999, the CE 5 could offer excellent value for money.

Telegram’s New Update Adds Collaborative Checklists, Suggested Posts and More Creator Tools

0

Highlights

  • Telegram Premium users can now create interactive checklists in any chat with customisable permissions for task management.
  • Premium users can submit suggested posts to channels and offer rewards using Telegram Stars or Toncoin.
  • Channels can crowdsource content or run affiliate promotions without sharing external links.

Telegram’s latest update version 11.13.0 is now live for both Android and iOS. The update brings two major additions, collaborative checklists and suggested posts for channels. These new tools are designed to help users manage tasks better and give creators more ways to engage and earn. Here’s all about the new Telegram update.

Collaborative Checklists for Premium Users

Telegram Premium users can now make interactive checklists in any chat, whether for personal tasks, group coordination, or team projects. What’s useful is that the checklist creator can set permissions to decide who can tick off tasks or add new ones.

To make a checklist:

  • Open the attachment menu in any chat
  • Tap on ‘Checklist’
  • Share it in groups, private chats, or even with yourself in Saved Messages

Suggest Posts in Channels

There’s now a new way to contribute content to your favourite Telegram channels. With the new “suggested posts” feature, users can submit things like fan-made content, product reviews, or promotional posts directly to a channel’s inbox. These can either be scheduled or posted whenever the channel owner chooses.

For now, only Telegram Premium users can submit suggested posts.

Add Rewards with Stars or Toncoin

To encourage channel owners to post their content, users suggesting posts can now offer rewards. These can be sent through –

  • Telegram Stars (available via @PremiumBot or Fragment)
  • Toncoin, which can be added through Fragment

Rewards are sent 24 hours after the post goes live. If it’s taken down early, Telegram automatically refunds the Stars. However, Toncoin payments are final and can’t be refunded, making them a more secure option.

Privacy-Friendly Monetisation

Suggested posts give even small channels a chance to crowdsource content or run affiliate promotions within the Telegram app, so there’s no need to share external links or contact details, which helps protect privacy and avoid scams.

Channel owners also have the flexibility to discuss post content and pricing before publishing.

Telegram Update Availability

These features are available with Telegram version 11.13.0 or later. Android users can update via the Google Play Store or download the APK directly from telegram.org/android.

iOS users can find the update on the App Store.
