iPhone 17e and iPad 12 – Launch Timeline

To start with, the Japanese website Mac Otakara has revealed that iPhone 17e and iPad 12 are both expected to be released within the next few months.

Sharing a more precise date, German publication Macwelt claims Apple could announce the iPhone 17e through a press release on Thursday, February 19. Macwelt report details are available in English via Macworld.

While launching products on a Thursday is unusual for Apple, the report notes that it is still possible. Apple announced the iPhone 16e on Wednesday, February 19 last year. The Macworld report notes, “Apple usually announces new products on a Monday or Tuesday, or less frequently on a Wednesday. Apple doesn’t share information about upcoming launches with case and accessory makers, but companies often use inside information to time their own releases alongside Apple’s. So while it’s possible that this is an educated guess based on simply adding a year to last year’s launch, it could also be backed up by industry rumblings.”

If the current rumour is accurate, the iPhone 17e would be unveiled exactly one year later, albeit on a Thursday.

According to Mac Otakara, citing “reliable sources,” the iPhone 17e will retain a design similar to the iPhone 16e. While earlier reports hinted at the addition of a Dynamic Island, the latest information claims this is incorrect.

Macwelt also agrees that the iPhone 17e will not feature a Dynamic Island, but adds that MagSafe support is likely.

Instead, Apple is expected to continue using a notch, just like on the current iPhone 16e.

Apple discontinued the iPhone SE in February 2025 and introduced the iPhone 16e as its new entry-level model. The iPhone 16e comes with a 6.1-inch OLED display, A18 chipset, Apple Intelligence support, a single 48-megapixel rear camera, Action button, USB-C port, and other modern features.

The iPhone 17e is expected to succeed it with internal improvements.

The report highlights three main upgrades planned for the iPhone 17e. It is said to be powered by Apple’s new A19 chip, replacing the A18, which should deliver improved performance and better power efficiency. Apple recorded a strong performance in the global tablet market during the fourth quarter of 2025. iPad shipments rising sharply even as overall market growth showed early signs of cooling, according to a new report from research firm Omdia.

iPad Shipments Rise as Market Stabilises

Omdia’s data shows that Apple shipped 19.6 million iPads in Q4 2025, marking a year-over-year growth of 16.5 percent. This was the second-highest growth rate among major tablet brands, behind Lenovo, which reported a 36.2 percent increase on shipments of 3.9 million units during the same period.

Despite Lenovo’s faster growth rate, Apple strengthened its dominant position in the market. The company gained 2.6 percentage points in market share, reaching 44.9 percent in Q4 2025. Samsung followed at 14.7 percent, while Lenovo captured 8.8 percent.

Huawei and Xiaomi accounted for 6.9 percent and 6.4 percent, respectively, with other tablet manufacturers making up the remaining 18.3 percent of global shipments.

Strong Demand for New iPads Drives Growth

Omdia noted that Apple outperformed the broader tablet market in the final quarter of the year. Looking beyond Apple, the overall tablet market grew by around 10 percent year over year in Q4 2025, slightly exceeding the growth recorded in 2024. This indicates a gradual stabilisation following three consecutive years of decline after the pandemic-era surge in demand.

Himani Mukka, Research Manager at Omdia, highlighted the role of memory supply challenges in shaping recent shipment trends and warned of potential headwinds ahead. Mukka said, “In 2025, the tablet market delivered its highest annual shipment volume since the pandemic-driven demand boom of 2020. […] Seasonal holiday demand, combined with vendor pre-build activity ahead of anticipated memory constraints, provided a meaningful uplift to shipments in the final quarter. However, tablet demand will come under increasing pressure in 2026.”

While Apple closed 2025 on a strong note, Omdia suggests that supply-side challenges, particularly around memory availability, could weigh on tablet demand across the industry in the coming year.
