Apple is gearing up for its September 9 launch event, where the company is expected to unveil the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Ahead of the big day, a new leak has surfaced online, allegedly showing a real iPhone 17 Pro Max unit straight from the production line. Here’s more on that.
The short hands-on video that has reportedly been filmed in China shows what is claimed to be an actual iPhone 17 Pro Max. The phone in the video is being handled by someone involved in the assembly process. If genuine, this is the first real look at Apple’s upcoming flagship.
The video was first posted by popular Weibo tipster Ice Universe. The clip confirms the much-rumoured rear redesign, which features a massive camera island stretching across the back panel from left to right. The rest of the rear panel has an outlined section designed to visually balance the oversized camera module.
That said, there’s always the possibility this could be a dummy unit, as many similar prototypes have circulated in the past. Still, with the launch just days away, it strongly suggests that the redesign is indeed happening.
This isn’t the first time the iPhone 17 Pro Max design has leaked.
Back in May, tipster @MajinBuOfficial shared a video of what appeared to be a dummy unit of the device. That unit also showcased the expanded rear camera island, with three lenses placed on the left, while the LED flash and LiDAR scanner were positioned on the right.
Alongside the redesign, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is tipped to come with a 6.9-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display offering a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR, and Dolby Vision support. The display will also feature an oleophobic coating to minimise fingerprint smudges.
Apple is rumoured to double the base storage on the iPhone 17 series, with the Pro Max starting at 256GB, up from 128GB on its predecessor. Under the hood, the device will run on the A19 Pro Bionic chipset, built on TSMC’s 3nm process and will be paired with 8GB or 12GB of RAM to support advanced Apple Intelligence features.
