Huawei has officially introduced the Huawei MatePad Mini in global markets. The compact tablet is positioned to rival devices such as the iPad mini and the Xiaomi Pad Mini. The MatePad Mini was initially launched in China last year alongside the Huawei Mate 80 series. Here’s everything you need to know about the new tablet, starting with price and availability.

Huawei has yet to announce global pricing for the MatePad Mini. In China, the tablet starts at 3,999 yuan (approximately $584). Buyers can choose between 8GB or 12GB RAM configurations with storage options going up to 256GB.

Huawei MatePad Mini – Key Features

The Huawei MatePad Mini sports an 8.8-inch Flexible OLED PaperMatte Display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and 2.5K resolution. It offers a 92 percent screen-to-body ratio, peak brightness of up to 1,800 nits, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The display also incorporates anti-glare technology with an optical film designed to enhance eye comfort and minimise reflections.

Huawei has not disclosed chipset details for the global variant. The tablet runs on HarmonyOS 4.3, offering enhanced multitasking features and productivity tools. It supports the Huawei M-Pencil Pro stylus, enabling accurate note-taking and sketching for students and professionals.

In the camera department, the MatePad Mini features a dual rear camera setup comprising a 50-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide macro lens with an f/2.2 aperture. The rear cameras support up to 4K video recording with optical image stabilisation (OIS). On the front, the tablet includes a 32-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

The device is backed by a 6,400mAh battery with support for 66W Huawei SuperCharge fast charging. According to Huawei, the tablet includes a smart power conservation system aimed at maintaining battery health over a period of up to three years.

The MatePad Mini weighs approximately 255 grams and measures just 5.1mm in thickness. It features a magnesium alloy frame paired with a 3D vegan fibre back panel, combining durability with a lightweight design.

Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.2. The tablet is equipped with dual speakers and houses multiple sensors including a fingerprint scanner, gyroscope, and ambient light sensor.
