The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra was the best-selling Android phone in the past three months.
As per usual, the first four spots unsurprisingly went to Apple’s iconic iPhones.
However, the Galaxy S24 Ultra managed to carve out its niche, snagging an impressive 1.9% of total smartphone sales in the quarter.
This comes as a great feat, knowing that the S24 Ultra is the only Android device on the list priced above the $1,000 bracket.
“The S24 series was the first to reach the market with GenAI features and capabilities, allowing users to create unique content and experience a new level of interaction with their smartphones,” says the Counterpoint Research report.
“The strong performance of the S24 series can be attributed to Samsung’s early refresh of the series, and its efforts in generative AI (GenAI) technology,” Counterpoint says. “The S24 series was the first to reach the market with GenAI features and capabilities, allowing users to create unique content and experience a new level of interaction with their smartphones.”
Looking back to the same period in 2023, the contrast was stark—the more budget-friendly Galaxy A13 topped the highest-selling Android phone charts, while the S23 Ultra languished at sixth place with a mere 1.3% market share.
First to market with GenAI features and capabilities is how analysts credit Samsung’s move.
Well, right there, Samsung caught the imagination of many with its embracing the world of the latest generative AI.
However, it wasn’t the integration of GenAI alone that catapulted the Galaxy S24 series up this pedestal.
Samsung’s marketing prowess and the wide availability of its devices took the sales to another level.
The regular Galaxy S24, along with the mid-range Galaxy A54 and A34, secured admirable positions in the top 10 list, further tightening Samsung’s grip over the Android market.
That success has come as a blessing for Samsung, with the company reporting revenues of a staggering $51 billion in Q1, fuelled by the strong demand for its flagship lineup.
Samsung has navigated this changing landscape of smartphones through adaptation and innovation, which has continued to be a successful strategy in the highly competitive Android market.
