Bengaluru Man Gets ₹5,000 Compensation For Missing User Manual With OnePlus Smartphone

OnePlus India Technology Pvt Ltd has been ordered to pay ₹5,000 to SM Ramesh, a resident of Bengaluru’s Sanjay Nagar, for failing to provide a user manual when he purchased a OnePlus Nord CE 3 smartphone in December 2023.

Ramesh bought the phone for ₹24,598 but discovered the user manual was missing, which made it difficult for him to access warranty details and the company’s address.

Although OnePlus eventually sent him the manual in April, four months after the purchase, Ramesh decided to take the matter to the consumer disputes redressal commission in June, citing “deficiency in service.”

In its November 29 order, the consumer forum criticized OnePlus India for its “sheer negligence and indifference,” according to the report.

Similar Case Against IKEA

This isn’t the first time Bengaluru’s consumer court has stepped in for customer grievances. In October last year, Swedish retailer IKEA was fined ₹3,000 for charging ₹20 for a carry bag with its logo.

The case involved a woman who purchased items at IKEA’s Nagasandra showroom but was charged for the branded bag. In its ruling, the court ordered IKEA to refund the ₹20 with interest and pay ₹1,000 as compensation for harassment and ₹2,000 for court expenses.

These cases highlight the importance of consumer rights and the accountability of large corporations.
