Apple’s latest 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the new M5 chip is already making waves with remarkable benchmark results. Early tests show the chip delivering record-breaking performance and efficiency, marking one of Apple’s biggest leaps in silicon technology to date.
A leaked Geekbench 6 result via the latest Gizmochina report reveals that the Apple M5 features a 10-core CPU, consisting of four performance cores and six efficiency cores. In single-core performance, the M5 scored 4,263, the highest ever recorded for any Mac or PC on Geekbench.

This score surpasses the M4 Max (3,914) and even AMD’s flagship Ryzen 9950X3D (3,399), giving Apple a significant advantage in single-threaded workloads including app launches, gaming, and everyday responsiveness.
On the multi-core front, the M5 achieved a score of 17,862, which is roughly 20% faster than last year’s M4 chip in the 14-inch MacBook Pro (14,726). Although it doesn’t quite reach the M4 Max’s 25,645 points, it nearly equals the M1 Ultra (18,405), an impressive feat for a chip running in a compact laptop form factor.
Interestingly, the same M5 chip also powers the latest iPad Pro, where it scored 4,175 in single-core tests, suggesting consistent performance across Apple’s ecosystem. This consistency highlights Apple’s ongoing success in optimising its chips for both Macs and iPads.
The M5 is part of Apple’s new family of silicon built on the third-generation 3nm process, offering improved performance-per-watt and energy efficiency. Currently, the chip is exclusive to the 14-inch MacBook Pro but Apple is expected to launch M5 Pro and M5 Max variants in 2026, following its usual release pattern.
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 is already available for pre-order with shipments beginning soon. Early benchmark numbers suggest that even the base M5 model is a powerhouse, redefining what users can expect from a standard MacBook Pro and setting a new bar for laptop performance in 2025.
