We are hearing that Apple’s upcoming iPad Pro lineup is expected to receive a noteworthy internal upgrade.

According to the latest edition of Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, the iPad Pro will now get vapor chamber cooling. This new thermal system is designed to keep the next-generation iPad Pro models running efficiently while maintaining their slim and fanless design.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared more details, stating, “Given all that, a vapor chamber in the iPad Pro — which is even thinner than the iPad Air — is on the company’s road map. Apple is now working on the feature, with plans to integrate it as soon as the next round of updates. The company is on an 18-month upgrade cycle for the iPad Pro, suggesting that the vapor chamber could be added around spring 2027.”

While this means the upgrade isn’t happening right away since the M5 iPad Pro was only recently launched, users who prioritise thermal performance may want to wait for the 2027 model.

Apple previously redesigned the cooling setup in last year’s M4 iPad Pro, introducing a copper heatsink that dispersed heat through the Apple logo on the rear panel. However, it appears that Apple is now aiming to take things a step further with the M6 iPad Pro by integrating a vapor chamber system to enhance sustained performance and thermal efficiency.

The company first implemented vapor chamber cooling in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. It successfully addressed overheating issues during everyday use, particularly noticeable in gaming scenarios.

Interestingly, even the fan-equipped 14-inch MacBook Pro models powered by the M5 chip have shown signs of potential thermal throttling before reaching their maximum performance levels. This makes Apple’s decision to expand vapor chamber cooling to the iPad Pro line even more significant.

At this stage, there aren’t many other rumours surrounding that iPad Pro release. It is widely expected to debut with Apple’s next-generation 2nm M6 chip, which is anticipated to make its first appearance in Mac devices late next year.

FAQs

Q1. What is vapor chamber cooling, and why is Apple adding it to the iPad Pro?

Answer. Vapor chamber cooling is a thermal management system that efficiently disperses heat across a device’s surface. Apple plans to integrate it into the iPad Pro to enhance sustained performance and prevent overheating—especially important for maintaining the tablet’s slim, fanless design

Q2. When is the vapor chamber cooling expected to arrive in the iPad Pro?

Answer. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is targeting spring 2027 for the vapor chamber upgrade, aligning with its 18-month iPad Pro refresh cycle. It’s likely to debut with the M6 iPad Pro.

Q3. Has Apple used vapor chamber cooling in other devices before?

Answer. Yes, Apple first introduced vapor chamber cooling in the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, where it helped reduce overheating during everyday and gaming use. This success is now influencing its expansion to the iPad Pro lineup.
