Apple is taking a big step this year.
The company will make its top iPhone models, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, in India for the first time.

“Every year, Apple seeks to deepen its manufacturing capabilities with partners in India. Production of Pro models is something that has been under consideration for the last couple of years. This year, Apple will manufacture the Pro and Pro Max models in India to make sure the India-assembled iPhone 16 Pro models are available in the country after the launch,” a source familiar with the matter told Moneycontrol.
Apple’s partner, Foxconn, will make these phones in Tamil Nadu, India.
They’ll start getting ready soon and will make lots of phones once the new iPhones come out.
At first, some Pro models might still come from other countries, but India-made ones will be available within a year.
Apple has been making more and more iPhones in India.
Last year, they made the regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus there.
Now, adding the Pro models is a big step up.
It shows Apple trusts Indian factories to make its best phones.
“In the initial phase of iPhone 16 series availability, it is likely that the Pro and Pro Max models will be imported. But, Apple will make India-made Pro models available within this fiscal year, similar to what it did with Apple 15 Plus,” another person privy to the development said.
Apple wants to make more of its products in India in the coming years.
They plan to make about one in four iPhones in India in the next 3-4 years.
This is part of Apple’s plan to make fewer products in China and more in other countries.
Indian Apple fans might be able to buy the new Pro iPhones made in their own country.
This could happen faster than before.
It might also mean lower prices in the future, as making phones in India can be cheaper than importing them.
Apple isn’t stopping at phones.
They’re thinking about making iPads in India too.
They also want to make parts for AirPods there.
In the future, Apple might make all its products in India, including computers.
