Apple is reportedly working on a big Genmoji upgrade for iOS 27. The goal is to make the AI-powered emoji feature smarter, faster, and easier to use on iPhones and iPads.
Recent reports say the update could bring automatic Genmoji suggestions based on your photos, typing habits, and message context. This would be another step forward for Apple’s growing Apple Intelligence ecosystem.
Genmoji first appeared in iOS 18 as part of Apple Intelligence. It lets users create custom AI-generated emojis just by typing prompts. While this made messaging more personal, reports now say Apple wants to make it easier to use by reducing the manual creation of prompts.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is testing a new “Suggested Genmoji” feature in iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. This feature could use on-device AI to suggest emojis based on your photo library and the phrases you type most often.
Reports say Apple might add a switch in the keyboard settings labelled: “Suggested Genmoji are created from your photos and your commonly typed phrases.” This feature should be optional, so users can turn it off if they don’t want AI-generated suggestions.
This new feature could make Genmoji more helpful. Instead of describing an emoji yourself, your iPhone might suggest personalised Genmoji during chats based on your recent photos, common phrases, or messaging habits.
The Genmoji update is said to be part of Apple’s bigger AI plans for iOS 27. Reports also mention that Apple is working on major Siri upgrades, like a more conversational, ChatGPT-style interface and privacy features such as automatic chat deletion.
Apple is expected to use on-device processing for Suggested Genmoji, which fits with its privacy-first approach to AI. The system should run Apple Intelligence models right on your device, so your data doesn’t go to outside servers.
Apple is expected to preview iOS 27 at its annual WWDC 2026 event next month. The final version will likely come out later this year with the next iPhone lineup.
Apple hasn’t officially confirmed the feature yet, but several reports say the company wants to make Genmoji easier to use and more a part of daily conversations as AI-powered personalisation grows on the iPhone.
iOS 27 may introduce automatic Genmoji suggestions based on users’ photos and commonly typed phrases.
The feature is expected to use on-device AI to analyse conversations and photos to recommend personalised emojis automatically.
