Apple’s iconic AirPods and its rather premium price tag has left many potential buyers hoping for a more wallet-friendly option.
As such, in exciting news for such consumers, reports have emerged about Apple’s plans to introduce a more affordable version of the AirPods, tentatively named AirPods Lite, expected to hit the market later this year.
Based on insights from analyst Jeff Pu, as reported by Macrumours, Apple is gearing up to expand its AirPods lineup with the introduction of these cost-effective AirPods Lite.
This move aims to make the innovative technology of AirPods accessible to a broader audience.
The manufacturing baton for this new addition is speculated to be passed to a Foxconn subsidiary, with production kicking off in India by the end of 2024.
Adding to the anticipation, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman hinted at Apple’s strategy to unveil two new AirPods models around September or October.
The lineup is expected to include an entry-level variant alongside a mid-tier model, both boasting a redesigned aesthetic, enhanced audio quality, and an updated charging case featuring a USB-C port.
The mid-tier variant might further entice users with active noise cancellation and a built-in speaker for Find My location tracking capabilities.
While the exact relationship between the anticipated lower-priced AirPods and the fourth-generation entry-level AirPods remains a topic of speculation, the overlap in descriptions suggests they could indeed be one and the same.
In addition to the AirPods Lite, Pu forecasts a refresh for the AirPods Max, slated for release in the final quarter of 2024.
Following Gurman’s insights, the primary upgrade for these over-ear headphones appears to be the switch to a USB-C charging port, with potential for new color variations to spice up the lineup.
Apple’s current AirPods range offers something for everyone, from the second-generation AirPods priced at Rs 12,900, appealing to users seeking the essential AirPods experience, to the third-generation AirPods available at Rs 19,900 with a Lightning Charging Case, or Rs 20,900 with a MagSafe Charging Case, catering to those desiring advanced features and enhanced compatibility.
The AirPods Lite are rumored to be a new, more affordable addition to Apple’s popular AirPods range, designed to bring the signature AirPods experience to a wider audience without the premium price tag.
According to analyst Jeff Pu, the AirPods Lite are anticipated to enter production by the end of 2024, suggesting a launch could be imminent shortly thereafter.
While specific details are still under wraps, the AirPods Lite are expected to offer the core AirPods experience, including wireless connectivity and audio quality, at a more accessible price point. They might lack some of the advanced features of higher-end models.
Alongside the AirPods Lite, new models of AirPods are rumored to feature a refreshed design, improved sound quality, and a new charging case with a USB-C port. The mid-tier model may also include active noise cancellation and a speaker for location tracking.
