Why Compact Design With Huge Batteries Matters?

OnePlus 16T along with several upcoming smartphones follows a growing trend of brands fitting much larger batteries into relatively slim smartphones. It offers a 6700mAh battery in a slim 8.36mm-thick smartphone body.

A 5,000mAh battery has been a practical battery capacity for smartphones in last few years, primarily because pushing much beyond that generally meant using more internal space and adding thickness or weight. Now, Silicon-carbon batteries have changed that equation with the use of silicon in the anode material.

Silicon can store considerably more lithium than graphite by weight, which allows smartphone makers to increase the amount of energy stored in a similar physical space. This is a major reason phones can now cross the 7,000mAh mark while staying around the thickness of previous 5,000mAh phones.

The upcoming Vivo V80 is expected to feature a 7,200mAh battery, while the OPPO F35 Pro could pack an 8,000mAh cell. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 16T is also expected to join the 7,000mAh-class battery segment. Improvements in battery technology and internal design are allowing manufacturers to increase capacity without making phones excessively thick or bulky. Meanwhile, the upcoming OnePlus 16 is expected to take the battery race even further with a 9,000mAh battery.
