After announcing Picture-in-Picture support for YouTube users on iOS in June last year, video platform YouTube has started rolling out the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode for more iPhone and iPad users globally. As per the latest update, users who are running iOS and iPadOS 15.0 or higher will be able to see PiP mode on the YouTube iOS app in the next few days.

YouTube subscribers on iPhones and iPad from India and other countries will be able to view a mini-player in a floating window for YouTube videos while using other apps on their devices.

PiP mode will be visible to on the YouTube iOS app in the next few days to those who are using iOS and iPadOS 15.0 or higher. However, there is a catch. PiP mode will be available to only the YouTube Premium members on iPhone and iPad globally for both music and non-music content. While, non-premium users will have access to PiP for non-music content only.

Non-premium users of YouTube in the United States will be able to access the PiP mode for non-music content only.

How to use PiP on YouTube on iPhones, iPad

Eligible iPhone and iPad users can use the PiP mode by selecting a YouTube video to watch and then leaving the YouTube app by swiping up from the bottom of their screen or pressing the home button. The video will continue to play in a mini-player, which can be moved across the device’s screen even while using other apps.

What is Picture-in-picture

With Picture-in-picture (PiP), you can shrink a video into a small player and continue watching while using other apps on your mobile device. The small player can be moved around your device’s home screen and can be positioned it over other apps.

Turning picture-in-picture off in Android

To turn off the PiP in Android device, you need to go to Android settings followed by Apps & notifications and then Advanced and Special app access and finally Picture-in-picture. Now you need to tap on YouTube to turn off Allow picture-in-picture.

Go to your Android settings And then Apps & notifications And then Advanced And then Special app access And then Picture-in-picture.

Step 1: Tap YouTube.

Step 2: To turn on, tap Allow picture-in-picture.

Step 3: Go to your YouTube app settings  And then General.

Step 4: Toggle Picture-in-Picture to on.

Closing the picture-in-picture window

There are two ways to close the picture-in-picture window:

Tap the PiP player to show controls, then tap the X in the top-right corner of the PiP player. Alternatively, you can drag the PiP player off to the bottom of the screen.
