AI is penetrating every aspect of modern tech and it appears there is no stopping of this trend. The latest to join the bandwagon is YouTube.

Well, you can say the popular streaming platform has been using certain AI-enabled features already and this is not new. But what we now getting is a proper AI-powered conversational tool integrated into YouTube videos. Here’s what you need to know about the latest announcement.

YouTube has started rolling out a new conversational AI feature recently. It is designed to answer questions about the video you’re watching.

Currently, this feature is only available for YouTube Premium subscribers using Android devices.

In November 2023, YouTube hinted that it would be launching this AI feature soon.

You can now ask questions related to the video using this new tool and get answers before finishing watching the video. This AI tool is now officially being made available to users in the US.

Only YouTube Premium members have access to the feature as of now.

YouTube has provided no confirmation on whether it will be extended to free users or made available outside the US.

In case you are wondering, the new Ask AI feature has been integrated into YouTube videos in a most subtle manner.

When watching a YouTube video on an Android device, you may notice a small comments bubble with a secondary page dot. By swiping left on the comments card, a new card called “Ask” will appear.

Tapping on it takes you to a page that looks similar to a typical chatbot.

Users will also have the option to “Summarize video” option. This automatically triggers the AI to provide a summary of the video.

The streaming platform has not confirmed anything about the AI model that powers this feature. However, it is likely running on some version of Google’s Gemini AI.

This new feature provides a handy way to get quick answers and summaries. This can be gaming changing in the video streaming space since this feature will allow users to get information about the video without needing to finish the video first. It has the potential to change the entire viewing experience for YouTube users.
