YouTube started trying out “Jump Ahead” in March.

Now they are making it available to more Premium members through the youtube.com/new website.

When you double-tap to skip ahead, a button will appear that jumps you to where most viewers usually skip to.

The “Jump Ahead” button shows up in the bottom-right corner for a few seconds before going away if you just wanted to skip 10 seconds.

If you tap the button, YouTube will show you an overlay that says “Jumping over commonly skipped section.”

This uses YouTube Premium features.

YouTube is using smart computer programs and viewer data to find the next best point to jump to.

Expanding this test will help YouTube see how useful people find the “Jump Ahead” feature that uses smart programs.

The test will run until June 1, 2024.

YouTube Keeping the Feature for Mobile

For now, this test seems to only be on the YouTube mobile apps, not the website.

YouTube first talked about this feature arriving in March.

When they first showed it off, they called it a “very small experiment” that some users were automatically included in.

Now more people can try it through the youtube.com/new experiments page, but only on mobile: Settings > Try experimental new features.

“Jump Ahead” is limited to a few videos currently, but that could change as more people get to use it worldwide.

Videos with a lot of views may be favoured for this test.
