Highlights

  • Xiaomi has been working on a buttonless MIX model, codenamed ‘zhuque.’
  • The brand previously tested buttonless phones including a prototype named ‘Wangshu.’
  • Images of the ‘Wangshu’ prototype leaked on CoolAPK.

It was earlier reported that Xiaomi is working on the brand’s first buttonless MIX model. Several reports claim that the brand was working on the device under the codename ‘zhuque.’

While we were waiting for more reports on that phone, contrary reports also surfaced online climbing Xiaomi actually tested a buttonless smartphone 1.5 years ago.

The phone, however, never saw the light of the day because the brand never launched it.

Now, murmurs about a buttonless Xiaomi smartphone are resurfacing as images of a prototype have been leaked. It appears the brand is finally ready to reintroduce the concept.

Before we discuss more about ‘zhuque’, let’s check out Xiaomi’s first buttonless prototype, codenamed ‘Wangshu.’

Prototype images of this device have recently surfaced on the popular Chinese forum CoolAPK.

Xiaomi Buttonless Smartphone – ‘Wangshu’ Prototype

Xiaomi’s ‘Wangshu’ was a buttonless MIX smartphone equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.

The device also featured an under-screen camera, supported 200W fast wired charging and 50W wireless charging. It also had a 2K 120Hz LTPO display and a 4500mAh battery.

In a recent Gizmochina report, details of MIUI code have been released confirming the leaks. As per the report, it seems that the codename ‘Wangshu’ was indeed assigned to this unreleased MIX prototype.

However, despite the impressive features and good design, Xiaomi for some reason decided not to release it.

In the last few years, the company has tested multiple MIX prototypes. Although, none have been launched for end consumers yet.

Now, with ‘zhuque’ in development, there is a high chance we will have this buttonless phone concept as a product soon, provided they don’t shelve this one too!

There has been no official update about the phone, its features or its release date as of now.
