Xiaomi EV has officially taken the wraps off its first SUV, the Xiaomi YU7.  It is a mid-to-large electric vehicle focused on performance, comfort and cutting-edge design. This is the company’s second EV after the SU7 sedan. Pronounced “YU,” the name is inspired by the Chinese phrase for “riding the wind.” The YU7 is built from the ground up as an SUV, unlike the SU7 sedan. Here’s what we know about the vehicle.

Xiaomi YU7 – Bold Exterior and Aerodynamics

The YU7 measures 4999 mm in length, 1996 mm in width, and 1600 mm in height, with a 3000 mm wheelbase. Its design gives it a sleek and sporty look, backed by the following –

  • A 11 sq. meter aluminium hood, the largest in any mass-produced vehicle with a built-in 141L front trunk that opens in eight different ways.
  • Optional 275 mm wide rear tires.
  • New waterdrop-shaped headlights with air channels that light up a 180° ultra-wide field.
  • Stylish halo taillights with ultra-red light for better nighttime visibility.
  • Auto-flush door handles that pop out when you approach and retract for better aerodynamics.

Thanks to 10 air channels, 19 vents, and a super sleek design, the YU7 achieves a drag coefficient of 0.245, improving range by 59 km.

Xiaomi YU7 – Eye-Catching Colours and Stylish Interiors

You can get the YU7 in three standout paint jobs –

  • Emerald Green – With aluminium flakes and a pearl layer that mimics Colombian emeralds.
  • Titanium Silver – Uses coarse aluminium for a bold, sporty contrast.
  • Lava Orange – Shifts between bright orange in the shade and metallic under sunlight.

  • 100mm front headroom, 77mm rear headroom, and 73mm rear legroom.
  • Up to 1,970 liters of total storage split into 141L front trunk, 678L boot (expandable to 1,758L), 71L cabin compartments

The HyperVision Panoramic Display projects a 1.1-meter-wide image onto the windshield using triple Mini LEDs and curved projection. Key features –

  • 108 pixels per degree, 1,200 nits brightness
  • Navigation, weather, entertainment, and more (all customisable)
  • 1-inch centre screen + two displays for rear passengers

Xiaomi YU7 – Serious Performance

The YU7 runs on Xiaomi’s HyperEngine V6s Plus, delivering –

  • 690 PS (508 kW) and 528 N·m of torque
  • 0 to 100 km/h in 3.23 seconds
  • Top speed of 253 km/h
  • Advanced magnetic steel motor tech adds 4 km more to the range

The suspension setup includes –

  • Front double wishbone + rear five-link
  • Dual-chamber air springs with 75 mm height adjustability
  • Continuous damper control that outperforms the SU7 Max by 10%
  • Brembo brakes allow a stopping distance of 33.9 meters from 100 km/h

Battery and Range Options

Three versions are available –

  • Standard – 96.3 kWh battery, 835 km range (longest SUV range under 100 kWh)
  • Pro – 96.3 kWh battery, 760 km range, all-wheel drive
  • Max – 101.7 kWh battery, 770 km range, all-wheel drive

Charging is super fast, thanks to 800V silicon carbide tech. It goes from 10% to 80% charge in 12 minutes and can add 620 km of range in 15 minutes.

Xiaomi YU7 – Built

The YU7 sits on the Modena Platform, featuring a steel-aluminium hybrid frame with 2200 MPa ultra-high-strength steel, developed using 24 million AI simulations and 4,000 tests, 47,610 N·m/deg torsional rigidity, 659 mm crumple zone and 1500 MPa crossbeam, Bulletproof battery coating 10x stronger than PVC and have passed 50+ crash tests, including rear-end impacts at 90 km/h

The Enhanced door beam strength –

  • Front +52.4%
  • Rear +37.6%
  • A-pillar +35%
  • B-pillar +70.5%

The Four-in-One Domain Control Module combines assisted driving, cockpit, vehicle control, and telematics into one system, reducing the controllers by 75%, space by 57% and the weight by 47% (down to 3.6 kg).

This gives you 16 km more range and 40% less power usage in standby mode. The smart cockpit runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip with fast boot times and 15-minute OTA updates. The assisted driving system uses NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor (700 TOPS, Blackwell architecture).

The YU7 is packed with the following connectivity features

  • Dual 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Ultra-wideband (UWB) keys
  • Three Bluetooth modules and dual Wi-Fi hotspots (83% faster)
  • Electronics tested in 17 conditions across 280 scenarios

The assisted driving setup includes –

  • One LiDAR with 200 m range
  • One 4D millimeter-wave radar
  • Eleven anti-glare cameras
  • Twelve ultrasonic sensors for bad weather conditions

Xiaomi also offers a hands-on driving safety course for RMB 1,999, covering –

  • Straight-line acceleration and braking
  • Emergency manoeuvres and slalom driving

Xiaomi YU7 – Launch Timeline and Scale Models

The Xiaomi YU7 SUV will be available starting July 2025, with pricing announced closer to launch. In the meantime, Xiaomi is selling 1:18 scale models of the YU7 –
