Highlights
- Xiaomi could introduce a wide-screen smartphone.
- The phone supposedly has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
- The phones’ display is tipped to be 16:10 or 16:9.
Xiaomi is reportedly working on a wide-screen slab phone with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The leak began with a tip from tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo on November 4, 2026, suggesting a new design for non-folding devices. Xiaomi looks to be taking this design from large folding phones, such as its own Xiaomi 18 Fold, to create a boxier, wider candybar phone instead of the traditional tall, narrow shape.
Xiaomi’s Wide-Screen Smartphone Design Revealed
Xiaomi is reportedly exploring a wide-screen candybar smartphone design instead of a standard tall rectangle. As per the leak, the design factor takes the typical tall and narrow smartphone and makes the display wider. It gives a wider horizontal viewing, making it much simpler to read, type with both hands and do side-by-side tasks without having a flexible screen. The fingerprint sensor on the side rail, likely just within the power button, allows Xiaomi to provide fast biometric unlocking on a larger body frame.
Standard smartphones are designed with tall, skinny aspect ratios for convenient one-handed handling. Xiaomi’s broader design means a much wider screen orientation that feels more like a tiny tablet or compact foldable sans crease. However, Xiaomi has not yet formally confirmed the project, and key hardware details and global launch dates have not been published while early testing continues.
Xiaomi Could Bring a Different Smartphone Display Format
According to tipster Digital Chat Station, a larger display aspect ratio is similar to wide-format foldables and devices like the Huawei Pura X View. The wider display makes two-handed thumb typing much more comfortable and minimises horizontal truncation when browsing web pages. The broad display enables seamless side-by-side software split-screen multitasking and allows normal 16:9 or wider video content to show clearly, with minimal wide space. Conventional smartphone displays emphasise on vertical scroll length. A wider layout offers horizontal workspace, providing users with more space to view document layouts, spreadsheets and media natively.
Xiaomi Wide-Screen Phone May Feature Side Fingerprint Sensor
The rumoured smartphone could have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor
The leak suggests the phone will include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. This sensor is likely to be integrated directly into the power button on the frame. Placing the sensor on the side allows for quick thumb or finger unlocking while gripping the wider frame.
Xiaomi Wide-Screen Smartphone: What Specifications Are Known?
