Xbox’s latest update allows users to switch TV’s input to Xbox console using a game controller

Microsoft has announced a new update that allows you press the Xbox button on your controller to switch the input to your Series X or Series S. According to tweet by Larry Hryb also known as Xbox’s Major Nelson, users will be able to switch input back to your Xbox when they will press Xbox button on your controller once.

It further says that if user is on a different TV input waiting for a download or update, they can press the Xbox button once to switch back to the Xbox input.

Once the feature is enabled, all you will have to do is press the Xbox button on the gamepad. It is worth mentioning here that the new feature will only be available on Xbox Series X and S. This feature will not be available not the last-gen Xbox One due to absence of HDMI- Consumer Electronics Control (CEC).

This feature has will do away the need of a remote while returning to their Xbox after a TV session.

You can switch to cable TV during a download knowing that you just have to grab your controller when you are ready to play.

You can enable it through the “Sleep mode & startup” settings section through the “TV & A/V power options” selection.

HDMI-CEC

HDMI feature called Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) can be used by Xbox Series X|S consoles to send commands to and from CEC-enabled devices (such as TVs and AVRs). Devices must be connected to the console.

This feature can be turned on and off via the TV & A/V power options settings screen. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, then go to Profile & system > Settings > General > Sleep mode & startup > TV & A/V power options.
